@MrMake1521 I have same computer with HD5870 and i strongly do not recommand this item. I have it sience 1 year and: 1st day - AC/DC adapter broke down! It was also impossible to purchase fast such strong adapter! Memory stick intlet is mechanicly defected and i am unable to take out adapter. Stable gums glue-out in first month. Mouse and backpack are not usable anymore as well. And front frame - next to open-close hinges is braked- i spent pleny of money on this unit and i was ...

This a year ago, itself mate. Since I bought it last year, its dropped another £150-£200, before they stopped selling it. But its a great gaming laptop, still happily plays the latest titles on high settings :)

Great 'from the box to benchmark' review. I'm seriously considering getting hold of the GX740 mostly due to this vid. Just a quick price update, Novatech website now lists this model with Win7 at about £999. Still a reasonable price I think.

not but we aren't talking a lot of difference as spec wise it has an i7 8gb ram and a 5870 where the GX740 has an i5 4gb ram and a 5870 so graphically its the same your looking at 5-10 fps extra with the G73jw over the GX740 but of course theres a massive price difference between the two, also if you live in the USA you can get a i7 version of the gx740 anyway, tbh if your on a budget go for the GX740, if you have the extra the G73jw is a good laptop too.

Well seeing as the i7 has a higher turbo boost clock speed it should get higher FPS, however the performance I achieved for my i5 was more than enough to play the game smoothly so I doubt you'd actually notice much of a difference however the i7 should get higher fps, and from various benchmarks I've seen this is correct for the i7.

depends on what you want mate. the 660 is a 15.6inch i7 with 6gb of ram and a either a GTX460m or a 5870Mobility while the 740 is a 17inch i5 / i7 (depends where you live) 4gb of ram and a 5870 Mobility. So its basically pretty much down to size and processor. But always go for one with a 5870mobility over a gtx460m as the 5870 is better.

Its awesome mate I love it, great performance for a decent price for a gaming laptop. No issues with the laptop so far although I have just sent it off to be repaired but I might have spilt something on the keyboard which has messed up a couple of keys, woops lol but nothing wrong with the actual laptop only abuse by me haha.

No, there are currently no laptops with future proof upgrading capabilities for the GPU. This laptop can have its CPU, an i5 430M upgraded to an i7, even the i7940M I believe its called. but on the GPU front its a no go area really.

This thing looks freakin' sweet. I'm considering getting a MSI GX640 (the 15 inch version of yours with a ATI 5850 instead of 5870) as a Christmas gift for myself for finishing 2 years of college.

I've been inspired to play Empire and Napoleon because of your videos, but playing them on my Gateway with integrated GFX doesn't work so well.
