Ring magazine printed an article titled "Will Tyson Survive 1989?"
They documented his lack of training and discipline and the trouble and turmoil within his own camp. They predicted that while his rise to the top was meteoric his downfall would be also.
Now, I agree that Tyson's opponents were handpicked and Douglas fought a great fight but Tyson was was about 2 years past his prime by that point.

He beat Tyson and 8 months later was 14 pounds overweight and got KO'd by Holyfield in 3 rounds.
I agree that Tyson was the author of his own downfall and can blame nobody but himself for being such an idiot.
But, I think Tyson was at his best in late 87 early 88.

@chocolatethundaish All Tank would have to do is take him down and pound him out. Sure, they're both strikers, one being a brawler, one being a boxer, but Tank has more experience with takedowns than Tyson does. In MMA, Tank would destroy Tyson. In boxing, other way around obviously.

@SCARFACE40214 I still wouldnt say that, even though Tyson didnt specialize in learning how to take people down proffesionally, you have to take in to account the extremely large margine in terms of athleticism. I think Tyson could have kept it a striking match and not allowed Tank to get him on the ground, and even then, prime MT was the quickest, most effecient, powerful and straight pants shittingly scary strikers in any sport, Tank would have been overwhelmed easily

Tyson wasn't, nor ever will be, an MMA fighter, Tank will never be a boxer, two different sports, two different fighters, it's like saying Kobe Bryant could easily replace Randy Moss on the Titans.

@SCARFACE40214 You have to take into account, even though Tyson's profession was as a boxer, that doesnt neccessairly make him completely one deminsional. and even then, he was one of the most ferocious, powerful, and athletic fighters ever seen by modern standards and i wouldnt doubt he could have had potential to fight in MMA, he was already thier physically, technically, probly not, but all that takes is training

@chocolatethundaish True, and I think given Tyson's style, and not meaning to crack on him, but his whole thing was either knock the other guy out in the early rounds, or get ready for a long night, and seeing as boxing, imo, needs more cardio, I think he could've done well in MMA. Sadly it's one of those things that we can only speculate about.

@aescoblaze03 tank isn't much of a trained fighter. he literally gets a call and is asked if he wants to fight a particular match, he say's sure, gets off a bar stool and goes gets ready. I guess that is why he has such a crap record. I still like him though. If he is ever interviewed about and asked about a fighter in general, tank would have said the same thing. although I like him, he is not a good sport at all, especially if he loses (what him and don frye and you'll see what I mean.)
