I really don't get why Ford isn't going with a mild hybrid powertrain with these Ford Taurus police interceptors. Police Crown Vics hardly get better than 10MPG because they never shut the engine off and they drive aggressively. Putting a hybrid system with the V6 and V8 engines would probably DOUBLE the MPG the police departments get because the engine won't be on when stopped! It's such a stupid decision from Ford, I just don't get it.
The 2012 version is supposed to be a special SUV. Kinda like the Expedition just re-enforced and shit like this guy was talking about. I'm not 100% positive but that is what my local police have told me when I volunteered(EM) a couple times.
@humvee600 congratulations, i own a 1969 ford mustang, a 2009 dodge challenger, i was given a 2010 dodge charger interceptor, and i used to drive a mercury marauder with a supercharged v8 engine, i have taken extreme driving classes for all terrain, and weather, and can turn better and more efficiently than you could, i also have blue white and red lights that pull people like you over for traffic violations, and i also have a nice glock and bushmaster ar-15 in my trunk provided by the city.
@AKRider013 The bushmaster ar 15 is in my trunk, the glock is holstered on my belt, another thing is that people tend to forget the radio, which is faster than any car out there
@Bouzinem I'm not arguing the radio thing you just said in an early comment you had a Glock and a bushmaster AR-15 in your trunk I was just pointing out the fact that I wouldn't keep mine in the trunk. What Glock does your department issue?
@AKRider013 It depends on where you stand, I was issued a glock 17 there are other officers whom they've issued 22s to, and some officers mainly the patrol units carry .40 Smith & Wesson.
@AKRider013 I was issued a glock 17, there's other that chose the 22s, and there are some highway patrols that carry .40 Smith and Wesson, I never decided to get mine changed since i never used it and am fine with it.
@humvee600 I also forgot to mention I have a radio and if someone attempts to run i can call in blocks and you wont outrun much, really i would advise you not to do so.
All cop cars should be well equiped like that especially the beat patrol officers because they get in the most shit and die more than the 'secret' agents!!
Dislike the reviewer, he used incorrect terms and did an overall shotty job. Did not discuss the use of boran steel, the fact the parts are interchangeable with the SUV model (not even mentioned). CNET reviewed the same car and did a much better job. I'd expect more from a company such as Motortrend.
@jaden00umbrella Absolutely. I drive an 03 CVPI and plan to drive the interceptors until I cant get them anymore. Theres no reason to drive any other type of car for me. I love Ford for one thing. But its large, tough, good looking, very reliable, handles like a much smaller car, nice power at all ranges, easy to work on, etc etc. Our police here tried the Chargers and it lasted for one year. Right back to the Vics they went. They said the Charger was faster but shit in every other way.
I saw a Ford Taurus 2011/2012 unmarked version in New York. I was pretty surprised to see it. I saw it only once and never saw it in a marked version I thought they wouldn't release these cars until later in the year.
The unmarked Ford Taurus looked like this but grey and standard rims.
LOL!!! Too bad most cities are broke. I work for a large department and I think our newest car is an '08. I'm pretty sure I won't be using one of these 'till about 2016 or so. We still have some '99s....a Prius will give me a good run for my money.
@t8trg8tr ever heard of lidar. laser technology to get your speed instead of radar. plus they already have your speed before your radar detector picks the cop up
it looks insanely good. just hope they upgrade the engine. they added a lot of weight reinforcing it. it wont have the same power to weight ratio it had before that made it pretty quick for a big sedan.
As a tax payer I feel since my money helps pay for police vehicles I should be given a fair chance to get away. The old Crown Vics were kind of easy to get away from after a few tight turns but the AWD makes it too unfair.

And I am sure you are a regular Gone in 60 Seconds running from the cops all Bruce Willis style.....gimme a break, nowadays if the cops want you, they'll get you. dear US government, you should start painting your police cars green with a brown racing line. this way with all those lights they will exactly look like christmas trees. peace =)
I guess its a good thing they are getting rid of the crown vics cus ppl get away with doing stuff cus they see one. and ppl that really shouldnt be getting in trouble are caught at the wrong moment when a cop needs to fill his quota
Do you think police departments are going to want to purchase all new Separation Cages? Light bars< center consoles for radio and warning lights for a new type of vehicle? Do you REALLY think that all those purchases will actually offset any savings in fuel economy? I think Ford is going to lose out to the Dodge Charger in sales.
@OliviaSST Disagree, most of the departments in my local area have already put in orders for the new Interceptor. There are many issues with a Charger that most civilians don't understand. Chargers are very high maintenance and their parts cost a lot more money. Plus the AWD is a huge issue when it comes to many pursuit techniques taught to officers. The prisoner area is much smaller and the trunk is Smaller. Also, if you look at the blueprint dimensions of the old interceptor to the new one**
@OliviaSST ** all the dimensions are generally the same. From the center console, to the roof mounted lights, and the rear cage. They are only off by a fraction of an inch. Which means that most, if not all of these parts will be interchangeable. As well as that, most of the light bars, center consoles, and push bumpers used today are not vehicle specific, or the vehicle comes pre-made that way.
@gtasalova6969 Well that's good news then because I have a significant amount of my retirement funds in ford stock that I purchased for 1.50 a share. The Charger is a good looking car, but I hope that the orders for the new Interceptor remain as solid as the Crown Vic and that departments can save a significant amount of fuel.
@OliviaSST Fuel is a huge issue with most departments. As we know, most officers leave their car running for safety issues and when responding to high priority calls, they are slamming on the gas and then brakes and then the gas again... Well the Charger gets absolutely terrible gas millage so I feel a more fuel efficient interceptor will take over. But Departments will still purchase the Charger as a pursuit vehicle seeing that it is much faster.
@gtasalova6969 ... if this has the same motor as the taurus sho, then no, the charger is not that much faster, not enough to warrant the loss in mileage afforded to the giant V8 in the r/t or the lack of HP in the V6 models ... it will be interesting to see if this interceptor ( taurus ) with all its heavy duty equipment will be faster than the charger/ impala cop cars that are out there now ... whatever the result, i cant wait until police departments start selling them off ... cause i want one
@drjesus616 Well they are going to have two separate engines for this vehicle, both of them are going to be around 360 hp. They aren't going to offer a V8 with this vehicle which I feel is a terrible Idea. The 2011 Pursuit charger offers a supercharged 5.7L hemi that tops at 420HP. The weight is off by about two hundred pounds depending on engines, options, and amount of fuel in the vehicle. I think it all just depends on what the department is trying to use their vehicles for.
@gtasalova6969 V8's are a bad idea they suck down gas and throw the balance off. Making a already boat of a car harder to handle. If its power your worried about... a WRX can do 150 with a turbo 4 banger. I think a twin turbo 6 will do just fine. Plus with a turbo engine you get better MPG cruising with the turbos off because of the low compression in the cylinders.
@mrvelocity Ummmmm..... that depends on the v8 my friend. An aluminum chevy LS engine (419lbs) doesnt weigh too much more than most cast iron bock v6s and some 4-bangers.
Also, fuel deliver technology and cylinder head design allows them excellent fuel economy. Fact: A 2011 chevy ZO6 corvette with a 427c.i. v8 makes only 1 Mpg less city and 3 mpg better hwy mileage than a 2011 WRX STI
@originaldriver it depends on the tranny an gearing a z06 cruises at highway speed with no effort due to it being light and built to reach top speeds of 170+ (dont know dont care), subaru also has 4wd wich causes extra drag causing more fuel consumption
@bwright009 What about the 2011 ss camaro or 2011 mustang 5.0 gt? The SS camaro snags 16city and 25hwy while weighing 3800lbs. The 2011 Mustang 5.0 gets 17city and 26hwy with over 3500lbs of curb weight.
.
Last I checked, neither of these cars are either geared for super high speed (150 tops ) nor are light weight (which isnt really a concideration for intercepters since they need robust weight to pit or barricade escaping cars).
@originaldriver if you payed attention to my post i compared the mpg ratio of the subaru and the corvette the vette is deffinately geared for higher speeds over the subaru also said i didnt know the top speed of a vette and dont care just threw a number out there that i though was plausible for a vette to hit. gearing in the new inerceptors would be the biggest factor in increasing the mpg my v8 f150 gets better mpg than my v6 ranger cause the ranger is geared lower(offroad). high rpms=low mpg
@bwright009 Maybe Im just making a tangent here. So Ill ask you this. When you were describing v8's as a "bad idea" in you prior statement, were you talking about specifically for the taurus or just in general.
.
Moderen V8s have some pretty awsome fuel mileage and dont neccessarily have to be heavy or kill handeling performace like you said.
.
I just couldnt tell whether or not you were being biased. (Not really concerened about gear-ratios right now)
@originaldriver never said v8's were bad id prefer a v8 only coment i said was the gearing if your running 4.10 gears your gonna be quicker off the line but also burn more fuel at cruising speed, agreed new v8's are more efficient and lighter, you confused me with somebody else on the oppinion of a v6 over a v8
@originaldriver This is vary true but theres also the problem of reliability where turbos do add some complexity the aluminum block is more prone to warping from prolonged running. where turbos can just be switched out. A failure in the block is much more costly. If the block can take the abuse for the normal life span of a police car then i'm all for it. But in the end its the hole package. Frankly I like this car as a hole. I just can't see any other 4 door American cars taking the crows place
@originaldriver Short of the charger and impala of corse. But my neighbor who is a police officer companies that the charger is a bit to small after all the upgrades. And i don't know much about the impala short of police liked them in areas that have snowfall because of the front wheel drive witch provides better traction in the snow. I tend to lean toured's Ford manly because they have been providing for the police for many years and have some idea of what they want.
Why waste the time a taurus is to small for a cage for the crook. Micro cops
A grown man wearing a gun belt and a vest will not fit in that vehicle. add a shotgun rack and a rifle rack and agencies will be leaving FORD to go to a charger or a four door P/U truck. Nice guys WTF!!!!!!!!
This guy is an uninformed idiot. The shifter is going from the retail location in the console to the police location in the column. The police tires will be 18". He should have done his homework on the Ford Police Interceptor Utility and Sedan before he made this youtube video.
@wonderbreadkw then why dont they just make an american police car that really goes fast, i cant suggest a lamborghini cuz its european but why not Ford Mustangs, Ford GT, Dodge Vipers and fast american cars like that
@bentheweirdo uhhh dude just sit back and think. who buys these cars and runs the police. the american govt. so why would they purchase something non american when the govt is american
@bentheweirdo The Ford Taurus Interceptor comes in FWD or AWD, with engines options putting out up to 450hp. Vipers are out of production, Mustangs are too small, Ford GT is a two-seater.
@bentheweirdo Police think they are so significant finally updating their shitty Crown Victorias after 50 years but the reality is that while these police cruisers have more power and are faster, so has the normal car. 300hp+ is common place nowadays.
great car also fuckn motortrend i know that the toyota ev r4 was there why i dont see it on your channel... i been an admirer of you for a long time please stop playing oil puppets and let me see that teslas and toyota rv4 thanks and to the youtube trolls no mother fuckers you dont have to rate this up thank you i fuckn need a hobby badly ahahaha jk funtimes)) yippy.com
@stephenpales actually it has the nice turbo engine in them, and alot of stuff the normal taurus wont have and the general public wont have access to, such as different interior set up and kevlar lined seats that are stab proof just to name a few....
I really don't get why Ford isn't going with a mild hybrid powertrain with these Ford Taurus police interceptors. Police Crown Vics hardly get better than 10MPG because they never shut the engine off and they drive aggressively. I think it all just depends on what the department is trying to use their vehicles for.
gtasalova6969 1 year ago
@gtasalova6969 V8's are a bad idea they suck down gas and throw the balance off. Making a already boat of a car harder to handle. If its power your worried about... a WRX can do 150 with a turbo 4 banger. I think a twin turbo 6 will do just fine. Plus with a turbo engine you get better MPG cruising with the turbos off because of the low compression in the cylinders.
mrvelocity 1 year ago
@mrvelocity Ummmmm..... that depends on the v8 my friend. An aluminum chevy LS engine (419lbs) doesnt weigh too much more than most cast iron bock v6s and some 4-bangers.
Also, fuel deliver technology and cylinder head design allows them excellent fuel economy. Fact: A 2011 chevy ZO6 corvette with a 427c.i. v8 makes only 1 Mpg less city and 3 mpg better hwy mileage than a 2011 WRX STI
.
2011 subaru STI:17 city 23 HWY
2011 chevy ZO6: 16 city 26 HWY
originaldriver 1 year ago
@originaldriver it depends on the tranny an gearing a z06 cruises at highway speed with no effort due to it being light and built to reach top speeds of 170+ (dont know dont care), subaru also has 4wd wich causes extra drag causing more fuel consumption
bwright009 1 year ago
@bwright009 What about the 2011 ss camaro or 2011 mustang 5.0 gt? The SS camaro snags 16city and 25hwy while weighing 3800lbs. The 2011 Mustang 5.0 gets 17city and 26hwy with over 3500lbs of curb weight.
.
Last I checked, neither of these cars are either geared for super high speed (150 tops ) nor are light weight (which isnt really a concideration for intercepters since they need robust weight to pit or barricade escaping cars).
originaldriver 1 year ago
@originaldriver if you payed attention to my post i compared the mpg ratio of the subaru and the corvette the vette is deffinately geared for higher speeds over the subaru also said i didnt know the top speed of a vette and dont care just threw a number out there that i though was plausible for a vette to hit. gearing in the new inerceptors would be the biggest factor in increasing the mpg my v8 f150 gets better mpg than my v6 ranger cause the ranger is geared lower(offroad). high rpms=low mpg
bwright009 1 year ago
@bwright009 Maybe Im just making a tangent here. So Ill ask you this. When you were describing v8's as a "bad idea" in you prior statement, were you talking about specifically for the taurus or just in general.
.
Moderen V8s have some pretty awsome fuel mileage and dont neccessarily have to be heavy or kill handeling performace like you said.
.
I just couldnt tell whether or not you were being biased. (Not really concerened about gear-ratios right now)
originaldriver 1 year ago
@originaldriver never said v8's were bad id prefer a v8 only coment i said was the gearing if your running 4.10 gears your gonna be quicker off the line but also burn more fuel at cruising speed, agreed new v8's are more efficient and lighter, you confused me with somebody else on the oppinion of a v6 over a v8
bwright009 1 year ago
@bwright009 Ooops.. glad I stopped and asked before making an ass of myself. My bad...
originaldriver 1 year ago
@originaldriver This is vary true but theres also the problem of reliability where turbos do add some complexity the aluminum block is more prone to warping from prolonged running. where turbos can just be switched out. A failure in the block is much more costly. If the block can take the abuse for the normal life span of a police car then i'm all for it. But in the end its the hole package. Frankly I like this car as a hole. I just can't see any other 4 door American cars taking the crows place
mrvelocity 1 year ago
@originaldriver Short of the charger and impala of corse. But my neighbor who is a police officer companies that the charger is a bit to small after all the upgrades. And i don't know much about the impala short of police liked them in areas that have snowfall because of the front wheel drive witch provides better traction in the snow. I tend to lean toured's Ford manly because they have been providing for the police for many years and have some idea of what they want.

Looks like something Robocop would drive.
mitrooper 1 year ago
Why waste the time a taurus is to small for a cage for the crook. Micro cops
A grown man wearing a gun belt and a vest will not fit in that vehicle. add a shotgun rack and a rifle rack and agencies will be leaving FORD to go to a charger or a four door P/U truck. Nice guys WTF!!!!!!!!

@Texashayes are you serious? the new Taurus is GIGANTIC! apparently you've never been in one, it is one of the biggest sedans built FYI

This guy is an uninformed idiot. The shifter is going from the retail location in the console to the police location in the column. The police tires will be 18". He should have done his homework on the Ford Police Interceptor Utility and Sedan before he made this youtube video.

wonderbreadkw 1 year ago
@wonderbreadkw then why dont they just make an american police car that really goes fast, i cant suggest a lamborghini cuz its european but why not Ford Mustangs, Ford GT, Dodge Vipers and fast american cars like that
bentheweirdo 1 year ago
@bentheweirdo because they want to be able to put ppl in the back, the cars you just named are coupes not sedans.
wonderbreadkw 1 year ago
@wonderbreadkw okay yea but why in the hell police cars cant be a non american company like id love to see a Mitsubishi Lancer Police Car
bentheweirdo 1 year ago
@bentheweirdo uhhh dude just sit back and think. who buys these cars and runs the police. the american govt. so why would they purchase something non american when the govt is american
wonderbreadkw 1 year ago
@bentheweirdo The Ford Taurus Interceptor comes in FWD or AWD, with engines options putting out up to 450hp. Vipers are out of production, Mustangs are too small, Ford GT is a two-seater.
RickMartin7 1 year ago
@bentheweirdo Reason number 1: they cost to much. Reason number 2: nothing can outrun a radio. Witch is why we go for numbers over speed.

@bentheweirdo Police think they are so significant finally updating their shitty Crown Victorias after 50 years but the reality is that while these police cruisers have more power and are faster, so has the normal car. 300hp+ is common place nowadays.

@DJFG85 It's not the police upgrading. It's the car company. smart one

@stephenpales actually it has the nice turbo engine in them, and alot of stuff the normal taurus wont have and the general public wont have access to, such as different interior set up and kevlar lined seats that are stab proof just to name a few....

@lowkeyneon Stab proof? Haha Its hilarious when you put it that way.
