I am fostering a 3 year old tree walker and I have a cat. They are fine together. But if Sydney (Tree Walker) sees a cat while we're on a walk, she'll want to chase it.
My dog is 7 years old. He is a walker. Sometimes when he sees cats he only perks his ears, other times he pulls towards it. But when my dad makes fake meow noises to tease him, he busts out into the backyard at full speed.
Same exact thing happened with our coon hound, he loves the cats we have, but as far as the ones around the neighborhood, he wants to chase them. Its best in my experience if they are raised together :) But it all depends on the hound.
@Kingcobrasaurus I have a treeing walker coonhound, and she loves my cat! He makes it a point to go out of his way to lay down with her, she's very gentle towards him.
@Kingcobrasaurus I had two cats when I brought my Walker home. There was an adjustment period but we all survived. For the record, My Treeing Walker has yet to win "one" against the cats.
So sorry to hear about your walker. I am now fostering a 3 year old walker and she's a sweetheart. I've had her since April and when I got her she had heartworm, roundworm, pneumonia, and very skinny. She's now rid of all that and has gained 22 pounds, so she's doing great now. I know what you mean about missing the bark. Call me crazy, but her bark is almost soothing. I love it.
I must agree. The bark is almost soothing. It's sad some people can't stop to appreciate it. My neighbors always complained of the bark. Got me in trouble a couple times. But I'd give anything to have him back.
I have a R/B Coonhound and he is like your barking pup. He is loving and friendly to people as well as other dogs, but at the dog parks he loves to run and he is most definately the loudest dog by far in the park. Will you be hunting with your pups?
I LOVE MY TREEING WALKER HOUND! :D HE RUNS LIKE A HORSE AND PLAYS LIKE A CAT! :D

Outstanding! We have a treeing walker - that we adopted when he was 2. I imagine this is exactly what he was like when he was a kid. Funny dogs!
