I fell in love with Monifa after coming across her videos. So I googled her to see how big she is now. Unfortunately she died at Melbourne Zoo in late 2010 :'( On Nov 8th she started showing signs of being unwell, and passed away the next morning.

Well it is a baby, but it's a baby pygmy hippo. They are different. They only get to be about a third of the size of a normal hippo, like three feet tall but still big. They are also nicer. Oh god, I wish that was a full grown tiny hippo, I'd probably die of happiness.

pygmy hippos are far less dangerous than standard hippos, obviously because they're much smaller.

yeah fucking right.....i travelled all the way from adelaide to taronga zoo in sydney to see this little bitch, and after paying $80 for my partner and i to get in and waiting at her enclosure for over an hour to see her (amongst a crowd of a hundred or so people), she didn't even make an appearance.

nor did a keeper or anyone have the courtesy to come out and tell us she would not be making an appearance.

Hippos are the bogans of the animal world. The young are likely to be killed either by their dad who sees them as a rival or by their mum accidentally rolling on them. But if a keeper tries to intervene and help the baby, the mum will become defensive and attack the keeper. Just like a bogan abusing their kids and complaining when social services takes the kids away ("I'm a great mother, I love my kids").
