  • Saw one today in arizona

  • Congratulations! It doesn't happen often at all --

  • i seen these in ft irwin,ca during my NTC combat training

  • i had one of these in my backyard this morning, a little smaller and more black on it, but non the less. It was trying to make a meal of my chihuahuas. Good thing the chicken wire stopped him till i could get the dogs away and poked it with a long stick till it "ran" away.

  • wow they're so cool there selling them for 2000 bucks as pets here in canada!!!

  • are they the only poisonous lizard in the usa?

  • no, the Mexican beaded lizard is the only other one

  • @waywardmuse theyve now confirmed the komodo dragon is also venomous, theyre are no poisonous lizards on the planet, poison affects when consumed, venom affects when inserted

  • @PurebredLondon apparently beardies have a venom quite like rattlesnake venom but its not lethal to humans and i thought komodo dragons injected lots of bacteria into their prey and waited for it to die, but im not entirely sure

  • I love the waggle walk. They're such awesome creatures. I hope they don't disappear completely one day. What a tragic loss that would be.

  • yes ti would. Thanks for your comment!

  • @heart4herps On the extinction chart, the are considered LC (least concern). They are very vulnerable creatures, and it would be easy for humans to drive the extinct though.

  • gila monsters used to be much bigger.

  • Gila's hibernate underground 11months each Year, what dreams they must have...........

  • SAVE THE GILA!!!!

  • I know of a place in Arizona where they are everywhere during a certain time of the year.

  • Who he/she looks fat and healthy! :)

  • Where did you see the gila monster at??

  • in my front yard - Sonoran Desert, Arizona

  • Thats awsome, How often do you see them? What time of the year are they out?

  • i saw one just this weekend up in clifton arizona. my dad said it took him 40+ years to finally see one, only took me 15. my grandpa said we were one of the very few to see one. not saying you cant you just have to look and not expect it cuz you may not see one. ill post pictures of the one we saw i just have to have the time to make a video

  • this is great! spent 15 or so years growing up in southern arizona, and gila monsters are one of the few animals i never got to see in the wild, they're so neat though :)

  • thanks!

  • very beautiful creature. sad that they are becoming endangered

  • Question. if they was found in Mexico, why naming it with Malay language??

  • Gila means different things in different languages. It's named after the part of North America where the Gila Indians lived.

  • pokoknya gila banget de

  • Gila in malay and indonesian language means "insane" that is the only thing I know about them.

  • are they venomus

  • yes -- I talk about it more in the video "viva the night for gila monster lovers"

  • how big are these things and where r they located

  • They're located in the southwestern U.S. and northwestern Mexico -- most prominent in the Sonoran Desert. They can get to a little over 2 feet long.

  • Beautiful creatures..

  • arent gila monsters the ones that if they bite you, you have to drown them or something to get them off because theyre bite is so powerful or sumthin?

  • They do have powerful bites, but you don't have to drown them to get them off. The only people who get bitten are the ones that handle them. They're not aggressive unless you mess with them.

  • I live in tucson - saw my first gila monster - he was trying to cross the street - i let him pass

  • thank you!

  • i had 2 in my backyard!! man it scared me

  • Great footage. I lived in Arizona most of my life and the most I ever saw of Gila Monsters was a dead one on the side of a dirt road. Nice to see a good video of one, thanks.

  • thanks, you're welcome

  • Ha ha ha. Yeah well, you learn something new everyday, right?

I'm quite the monitor/heloderm fanatic. It's something about that intelligent, inquisitive look they give you. So much deeper than other lizards.

  • excellent footage waywardmuse.

I just love gilas. they are so awesome, and our only varanoid!

  • thanks for the compliment and for teaching me a new word -- had to look up varanoid! Fascinating -- s superfamily no less.

  • I have a Gila Monster in my pants.

  • it's pronounced HEE-LUH monster

  • it's pronounced HEE-LUH monster

  • yup, you can keep monitor lizards as pets, but you need license or something.. anyways.. another giant beast, the komodo dragon, ther mouths are dirty and stuff, so if they do bite you, you'll die lest than like 7 hours

  • yes thats thats what is thort but nobody has ever been recorded dieing form it

  • what the fuck ar u guys talking about i have a water monitor and im 15 no license with me u dont have to have one what the fuck are u talken about

  • if you want to pet an animal like fennec foxes, monitor lizards, alligators etc you need license, sometimes you even need to get tested just to see if your fit enough to keep an animal like that as a pet

  • u live in a stricked place where i live u can own almost aNY reptile my pet stores sell niles water monitors black throat monitors burmese pythons ect we need no license

  • lol.. yeah, the uk rules SUCK!!.. plus, you cant get any animals like fennecs, monitors or alligators here.. it sucks

  • heh i know but america overdoes it though i mean an alligator is way more dangerous than a komodo and where aloud to own one

  • yeah, but komodos bites are more risky, alligators bites are crushing.. one of the strongest jaws in nature, but komodo has all bacteria and diseases in their mouths, so if they bite you, you will die less than 7 hours

    however,

what i would do is keep the alligator when its a baby and let it free into everglades when it grows to like a metre long. lol

  • na dude komodos get that rotten bacteria from eating rotten animnals in the wild but in captivity they dont get that bacteria

  • well they still have very severe bites.. strong jaws and razor sharp teeth.. but yah, komodos shouldnt be pets

  • oh no wonder dude u live in the united kingdom yea that maybie true but in america u can own big monitors without a license

  • you can buy water monitors her ein the u.k and burms with out licenses but basically we dont get the wide range you do and we need a license for most stuff here it suks.

  • heh ya i dont know why the laws on that happend

  • canavar bööyükk a.q hatta gaffamdan böyükk

sokunca zıngılladıyo mubarek.bikerem benı soktu bende onu soktum ve sokustuk bi sürü gila cıklar oldu ve sevgılım benı terkettı

  • Is there any way of getting either a Water Monitor or a Gila Monster as a pet? Are all Gila's poisonus and violent or can they be tammed?

  • Gila Monsters are wild animals and only licensed breeders can keep them in captivity. They are a threatened species and therefore not available as pets. They are poisonous but not violent, only biting in self-defense. I don't know about Water Monitors.

  • you mean venomous, and they only bite larger animals in self defence, venom was not developed for defence in any venemous reptiles, they do use it in defence, however most of the prey animals of venomous reptiles are fast, too fast to chase so they need venome that will kill prey quickly before they can get too far, or fight back while being bitten,

  • oh yea water monitors are available in some places and on line but u gotta have a liscense, i think u get it by showing u have the right equipment and u are semi experienced with repyiles and handleing tham whitch means if u've had like a beardie or a water dragon or something semi big than i think u can get a liscence but in some states u don't need licenses.

  • You don't need a liscense.

  • dude, you can get water monitors in basically any reptile store..

  • ur probably thinking of goannas in australia

  • are these in australia and arnt they supposed to be poisionous

  • No, they're not in Australia. Gila Monsters are only found in the southwestern United States. Yes, they are poisonous. Only one other venomous lizard exists on the North American continent and it's a close relative -- the Beaded Lizard in Mexico. Scientists think some lizards in Australia may be venomous.

  • nope none of the lizards in australia are poisonus ,but if a goanna bites say ur finger off you run a high risk of serious infection from its salvia if not treated with antibotics.the komodo dragon of indonesia is deadly its saliva will break down human tissue and the nervous system withhin 10 hrs no known treatments or cures exist
