So SEXY and full of passion! I think this is the best version of Anita on film .<3 And the glee version pales in comparison. Why? Because they did it for the music and dancing aspect that only engages the audience with a "wow thats a fine tune" instead of emotionally capaturing the audiences attention for the characters. Sure they may have sang it better in Glee cause DUH its Glee but here they maintained each aspect of the performance to a tee.

Ernest Lehman (the screenwriter who adapted the movie) change the lyrics from the original musical to have more conflict between the girls and boys. The original had the girls alone talking about how great America was to them. IMO I think the Ernest Lehman change over was for the better!

Secondly, Rita Moreno is the only "true" Puerto Rican. She was born in PR but grew up in NY. Jose de Vega (who played Chino) was born in San Diego but he's most definitely not white. Furthermore, Natalie Wood was more than simply "just white." She was first generation American born to Russian immigrants in San Francisco.
