I've followed your every direction, but my plane still won't land! I navigate using the GSP without a problem, but when I set everything up for approach hold my plane just won't do anything at all. I've double checked my frequencies - I hear the morse code! Two diamonds appear on the virtual horizon and everything. I have the switch set to NAV and everything. It just won't do anything at all! I turned off the altitude hold, just to see if anything happened. Nothing... Please halp? =)
What's frustrating is that I can get the localizer, and then the G/S becomes active. however, once it goes below level flight, altitude doesn't disengage. Could accidentally activating APR hold before being on G/S affect this and cause altitude to not disengage?
I love the tutorial but I have a couple of questions. I viewed both 1 and 2 and with a little practice, it will come into play. First, how do I get the indicators that are next to the altimator on your video. It's where you were able to click on to get radio frequencies. and second, can i program the auto pilot at preflight, ie: speed, direction and altimator?
You make your tutorials very easy to understand and I look forward to viewing more, you are the best.
@22Jeffreyb To answer your first question, there is a line of buttons consisting of toggling the GPS and the ACT window as you can see at 3:22. Watch where he clicks. It is the second button from the left. It looks kind of like an "A" with lines coming from the top. That's where you click for the radio stack. Second question, I'm certain you can set cruise altitude, but other than that I believe it is cockpit exclusive. I apologize if you wanted to hear this from DN (uploader) or if I am wrong.
now why does my glide slope diamond just keeps on going down and then I'm above gs. wtf?? idk why, my altitude hold is off, it turns it off automatically, am i going to slow or what? If i go to fast I'm screwed, if i go to slow I'm screwed, what speed should I do when far from runway and close up?????
i have an idea if u dont get it. try opening your flight sim and setting up the samescenario now go to his ils land tut. and start playing it then open your flight sim window and do the same thing then pause. watch. copy and repeat until u complete it

@TheIceBuck3t Thanks i know that mission is not but when i did it normally without the mission aswell the ils works but the plane chases the localiser and lands right of the runway which is the grass on a diagonal approch also meaning i go off to the right into the sea!
i flew from KPAE to KSEA and made a successful ILS land.. then i wanted to make the flight back from KSEA to KPAE.. when i started to approach KPAE i changed from GPS to NAV the plane turned back to KSEA! O.O what happened?
Great tutorial, very clear, thanks. Only thing I'm still strugling with is to convert the picture to a less sofistiaced plane like the FSX native moony bravo, for instance, I cant find what to look for instead of the diamond shown on the screen in this video, or where to look for the GS indicator. Can anyone help me out?
I can never seem to line up with the proper runway heading unless i use gps first to line me up. Afterwards,I then use the nav/loc approach to land. Is this correct to do?
Hey i have the demo and have ordered the full gold edition game of FSX
Currently in the demo i have tried this in Princess Juliana TNCM ILS 113.00
But when i try this and your other video my plane never flies itself and i always have to correct approaches and stuff always goes wrong but for somereason i dont think the NAV or the Ap are connecting together
I receive the morse code from 80 miles away. However I do not get the diamond and I do not appear in the glide scope. I fly from Amsterdam (EHAM) to Brussel (EBBR). I set the direction to Brussel with my GPS and I set the auto-pilot. With the map I receive the VOR frequency and I put it on NAV when I'm around 25 miles out. The tower does not search radio contact with me and I don't get both diamonds. Annoys the hell out of me.
It is not working fo me i inter septed the locolelizer and i put nav hold on then when i intersepted the glideslope i ternd on approch hold and nothing happens and i go strate over the airport what am i doing rong??? :(

im doing like you said but im sure im just missing something or forgetting to switch something on or off at the right time i get all the ils frequencies and get to the airport but usually the plane doesnt land on the runway but lands in the bush

i think you explain this really well but i dont know why im not landing the plane on the run way im doing everything like you said but my plane lands after the runway usually in the mountainsheheheh maybe im doing something wrong with the heading before i leave i get the ils frequency put it in the nav1 and switch it in i take of set height and speed put autopilot on i do pick up the morse code near destinatio and when i see the second pink diamond switch on approach hold but doesnt work
awsome video bro. i've been trying to land my 737-800 to any destination i go under ILS approach, but i have no success. hahaha. i seem to fly just fine to the Airport, but always fail to land it. hahah. i hope i can land this shit now. thanks man. good stuff. the lessons in the FSX are kind of retarted, a bit counfusive and well, they dont really specify the actual techniques on how to do it. keep up the good work man, you'll one day become a pilot.

Dnthenumber 10 please help I have done everything you have done , putted in the freqency for the landing and the headingnumber, putted the gps to nav and approshhold switch.
But the plane is going to another direction away from the airport!!
Hey thnx for the video. But if i want to go to a other city how do i do that? I can't enter the name of the city in the gps, i mean i can but if i want to go to Amterdam for exmaple, what must I type? You typed ''KSEA'' for your city, how did you know you had to type KSEA ?
@CosmicDebris77 there are easier ways to do these things than what is shown here, like getting all of the frequencies from the map in Flight-Planner, the virtual cockpit mode, or by pressing 'Esc' and hitting 'flight analysis'. Hover the mouse over points of interest to get the frequencies, etc. Although it's good to learn all the different ways of doing things, it's best to start with the easiest approach first.
Here I had a probelm 2 flights In a row (the first with an Airbus A321 and the 2nd with a 737-800) the plane randomly turns while in autopilot. What can I do to fix that?
After turning on NAV hold on GPS mode or APP hold on NAV mode the plane usually banks right for a bit but after awhile it will align. To work-around this do your operations farther away :).
@Acecombatzer0 It's not random. There's a reason for it. Was it set to GPS, Nav, what? You need to explain what your autopilot settings are before anyone can figure out what's wrong.
Video is awesome.....but all the time i was keeping an eye on heading selector.....every time when appears its another heading......what about that.....i succeded ils just for KSEA rnwy 16L but i cant do ils for other airports....did you used heading selector....??.
When I use GPS to fly to my destination, the approach hold does not seem to work if my plane is on the opposite side of the runway compared to specific heading specified by the map (map shows ils freq, and heading).
thanx a very good explaination of the nav hold and approach hold. it was unclear before and the appearance of diamonds on the flight display was brought to notice. good work DN keep it up
Just a quick question, I've managed to follow your tutorial until the moment where you intercept the ILS frequency and you get the responding morse-code. However when I turn on nav-hold to intercept the vertical slope the plane just banks to the right and start going round and round. I think I've followed your steps correctly. I turned the switch from GPS to NAV and turned off Nav-hold until the morse-code is sounding but then when I turn on nav-hold again. It seems like the plane gets confused.
i will get it someday. i;ve been trying to decipher this problem by taking the lessons provided by the game and youtube videos, but still this thing doesnt work. i will keep trying.any advice,,will be more than welcome.
this video gave me a gretarer understanding of the controls. but i still cant make the plane find or land the desired runway. the plane behave by just turning in circles and far away from the airport or just get centered with the horizintal localizer but in the opposite direction of the airport. must be a problem(beside myself) with the pre flight adjustments, because the atc tower never gave me the option of request landing.
Great ,that's just the information i needed to perform an ILS landing, because my main problem was intercepting the glide slope..., i was getting lined up with the runway but i wasn't descending correctly. Once again thanks :) !!
It's essentially the same thing as my ILS tutorial, just explained a little differently. The process is, for the most part, the same. In this video I just focus more on the autopilot functions needed for an ILS landing, while the ILS tutorial is more complete because it takes you down all the way to the landing.
Okay, i tried to make an ILS landing, but i failed when i was about 1000 feet in the air. I turned the speed down to 140 before I could even see the runway. But I know how to do everything right :)
Thank you very much - because of the two videos that you have made, I can finally perfom an ILS landing. It could be nice, if you could do a more detailed tutorial. But again - great, great video - It helped so much!
Hey cravefave, to turn on the Morse code simply press the button at the bottom of the radio stack that corresponds to the NAV radio that you entered the ILS frequency in. For example, if the ILS frequency is in the NAV1 slot, press the NAV1 button at the bottom of the radio stack.
To intercept the localizer, you first need to be in it's range. You are in range if you can see the horizontal diamond on your Flight Director. Make sure you are facing the runway and hit the NAV Hold to intercept.
Great tutorials!! But i have a quick question. The flaps help the plane slowdown and pitch up correct? And the reverse thrust helps the plane slow down when it touches down right?
Thanks! Yes, the flaps create more drag which slows you down. They also create more lift, which prevents you from having to pitch up at slow speeds. And yes, the reverse thrust helps slow you down on the ground.
I think generally (I could be wrong) you should have full flaps by the time you land. I know that there are established flap settings based on the phase of the approach, but they are different for each aircraft and you would have to look them up. I just add them as needed and make sure I don't exceed flap speed limits. I usually add more flaps if I see that my aircraft is pitching up in order to maintain altitude during descent.
thx

ikweetnietook 1 year ago
I did do exactly like you but why are the aircraft not following the line in the GPS!?
Does it matter if I have the demo version ?

I'm completely lost.
I wish there was a decent tutorial to explain the basics of ILS.
CosmicDebris77 1 year ago
@CosmicDebris77 I am sorry you are having trouble with the ILS. Where are you getting lost?
DNthenumber10 1 year ago

Acecombatzer0 1 year ago
After turning on NAV hold on GPS mode or APP hold on NAV mode the plane usually banks right for a bit but after awhile it will align. To work-around this do your operations farther away :).
ChainChomp2 1 year ago
@Acecombatzer0 It's not random. There's a reason for it. Was it set to GPS, Nav, what? You need to explain what your autopilot settings are before anyone can figure out what's wrong.
Dirtfire 1 year ago
@Dirtfire na i fixed it but thanks for offering

Hey, there is no way to make the airplane pitch up a few seconds before the touch down with the autopilot ON??
SP33D3Rz 2 years ago
ILS landnig will do that
Agent0range67 2 years ago
@SP33D3Rz yes you can....
before you touch the ground press Z and that will shut down your Autopilot en the pitch up the nose..
Jik007 2 years ago
@SP33D3Rz in real life there is but not in all the fsx aircrafts.

737? no problem if you use something like "Multi Crew Experience"
Google it up!
There is a demo you can try for free :-))

Video is awesome.....but all the time i was keeping an eye on heading selector.....every time when appears its another heading......what about that.....i succeded ils just for KSEA rnwy 16L but i cant do ils for other airports....did you used heading selector....??.
babac95 2 years ago
Hey there babac95, the heading selector should not affect the ILS in any way unless the Heading Hold is activated.

Hi, gr8 informative vids, but cud u giv me sum idea how to autoland using an AIRBUS, i jus cant seem to figure it out.. Many thanx..

Awesome video, now I think I understand.
I have one question though.
When I use GPS to fly to my destination, the approach hold does not seem to work if my plane is on the opposite side of the runway compared to specific heading specified by the map (map shows ils freq, and heading).
Thanks~

thanx a very good explaination of the nav hold and approach hold. it was unclear before and the appearance of diamonds on the flight display was brought to notice. good work DN keep it up
closeup05 2 years ago 2
Just a quick question, I've managed to follow your tutorial until the moment where you intercept the ILS frequency and you get the responding morse-code. However when I turn on nav-hold to intercept the vertical slope the plane just banks to the right and start going round and round. I think I've followed your steps correctly. I turned the switch from GPS to NAV and turned off Nav-hold until the morse-code is sounding but then when I turn on nav-hold again. It seems like the plane gets confused.

when i try to do this my autopilot takes me in too high over the runway and it isnt lined up and it is diagonal its a complete mess. can you help me?

dude i have same problem, but my 1 gets the hight rite, but it misses the runway by like 800~900 yards, can you help me?
Kieran1693 2 years ago
i will get it someday. i;ve been trying to decipher this problem by taking the lessons provided by the game and youtube videos, but still this thing doesnt work. i will keep trying.any advice,,will be more than welcome.
raulsuazo 2 years ago
this video gave me a gretarer understanding of the controls. but i still cant make the plane find or land the desired runway. the plane behave by just turning in circles and far away from the airport or just get centered with the horizintal localizer but in the opposite direction of the airport. must be a problem(beside myself) with the pre flight adjustments, because the atc tower never gave me the option of request landing.
raulsuazo 2 years ago
awesome!!!!just what i needed. thanks dude
raulsuazo 2 years ago
Great ,that's just the information i needed to perform an ILS landing, because my main problem was intercepting the glide slope..., i was getting lined up with the runway but i wasn't descending correctly. Once again thanks :) !!
GUnit2214 2 years ago
Hi..
Is this tutorial useful, to land with ILS, or do I have to follow and use your description in your ILS tutorial video too?
mrLundby 2 years ago
It's essentially the same thing as my ILS tutorial, just explained a little differently. The process is, for the most part, the same. In this video I just focus more on the autopilot functions needed for an ILS landing, while the ILS tutorial is more complete because it takes you down all the way to the landing.
DNthenumber10 2 years ago
Okay, i tried to make an ILS landing, but i failed when i was about 1000 feet in the air. I turned the speed down to 140 before I could even see the runway. But I know how to do everything right :)
Thank you very much - because of the two videos that you have made, I can finally perfom an ILS landing. It could be nice, if you could do a more detailed tutorial. But again - great, great video - It helped so much!

Thanks for the comment! Glad I could help out :)

How do u turn on the that little panel to display the map? i dont have it :(
kiloman2 2 years ago
i have a question.
How do you turn on glide slope so the morst code comes on? And how do you intercept the localizer? Thats it.
XOcravefaveXO24 2 years ago

And the reverse thrust helps the plane slow down when it touches down right?
gregoyfe 2 years ago
Thanks! Yes, the flaps create more drag which slows you down. They also create more lift, which prevents you from having to pitch up at slow speeds. And yes, the reverse thrust helps slow you down on the ground.

Tnx =D
Enzo0912 2 years ago
the glideslope arrow does not fall. dont know why. am i dong something wrong
kazam9059 2 years ago
Hmmm. If it doesn't fall, then it probably means you are too low. What was your altitude when you tried this?
DNthenumber10 2 years ago
i mean what % do you set it to when landing
kazam9059 2 years ago
I think generally (I could be wrong) you should have full flaps by the time you land. I know that there are established flap settings based on the phase of the approach, but they are different for each aircraft and you would have to look them up. I just add them as needed and make sure I don't exceed flap speed limits. I usually add more flaps if I see that my aircraft is pitching up in order to maintain altitude during descent.
DNthenumber10 2 years ago
thx so much for the quick response. youve made fsx fun for me. what do you do with the flaps. could you explain pls. thanks. again thanks alot
