Remember back in WW2 the katyusha rockets the the soviet army used? Point in general direction of nazi and fire. These days point to the structure you want levelled and pop.
I was last stationed at 3/27th FAR (MLRS) Ft Bragg, NC I always dreamed of going to war having missed out on Desert Storm... You are absolutely right using MLRS to clear out snipers! Its stupid to do otherwise. If I had it my way Id use the Nuclear Variant missiles MLRS has and turn the desert to glass and ship tankers full of windex over there clean away any mess and take all their oil to pay for the wartime and lives lost since 1990....
Any kill is a good kill when they are trying to kill you. And pot shots is an understatement. When you kill people at 600+ meters with one shot, it is no longer a pot shot.
or risk sending in a few platoons to flush him out and may lose a few lives in the process, or you can shot a 227mm rocket 25 miles away and have no lose of life on ur side. i chose that,
@humpingbird also there is the question wether you should use inferior tactics just because your enemxy does...encountering an untrained enemy doesn't mean that you should screw safety...if you can take them out at a long distance then why shouldn't you?
@humpingbird There is also something to be said for demoralizing the enemy with overwhelming firepower. Additionally, and this is often overlooked, most of the ammunition, be it rockets, bombs, shells, mortars or bullets are ordered by the military anyhow weather we are at war or not because we need a large stockpile. If they weren't used in combat they would be used in training as they have a shelf life and will eventually have to be destroyed if they are not used. money well spent IMHO...
@humpingbird Considering modern developmental artillery with all the bells and whistles is 250,000 I'm guessing 125,00 is a HUGE overestimate. A sniper can have an effective range of upward of 1000 meters. Standard issue rifle for the U.S. uses the 5.56 with an effective range of about 400 meters. That is more than enough distance to take out a patrol of U.S. soldiers, especially from behind fortifications and with detailed knowledge of the terrain. If not for shells like that, troops would die.
@humpingbird your use of fancy words u probably looked up on google to attack me shows that ur an idiot too. im just defending the operations of our military, your just trying to be a pretentious prick-bag.
@killswitch445 .... just for the record, im the one who called it in... why because we were shot at several times by gunman in the house. After killing the first one with a precision shot. We began to receive heavy fire. therefore in accordance ROE. I requested MLRS and we dropped rounds on them. We have the ability to intercept cells phones... it was confirmed eight insurgents were killed. Their bodies were discovered and nearby was one RPG and several rifles. good day of hunting :-) !
@humpingbird As an MLRS crewmember in the United States Army, Id tell you son, $125k isnt worth more than any of my brothers or sisters out here. Id pay for the rocket myself before Id see any of them take one of our own HOOAH
@16goarmy No not really, it's boring as hell. Even practice rounds cost a fortune so there's a good chance you may never be directly involved in a live fire.
@ShmapnShmazz Whatever dude! I've been doing this for 4 years now, And I've done something like 12 live fires. 75th Fires Brigade 3-13 Red Dragons HOOAH
One sniper can hold up an entire infantry division.
You don't fuck around with a sniper. You use whatever option is avaliable to elliminate him without initiating contact. Artillery, Missile, armor... anything you got.
Yes it is MLRS and no it's not the "grid killer" everyone thinks it is. They are new rounds the army is using called GMLRS. They are GPS guided and are accurate to within one meter. They are specially made to have a very small blast radius to cut down on collateral damage. It is a very effective weapon, especially in urban environments where you can't rain hell without killing a bunch of innocents. I believe this mission was shot in support of 1-506th in Ramadi 05-06. I should know I was there.
My Uncle Randy jerked off to this video twice. He actually used to make the rockets for these bad boys back in the day. His daughters initials are even M.L.R.S.
God I love how accurate those things are.

$125,000 rocket just to kill an insurgent armed with an inaccurate AK-47 taking pot shots at people.
Talk about O V E R K I L L. No wonder the Iraq campaign expenses are so high.

@inaslump1 Yeah especially when your economy is down the drain
Well down on your retard comments !
With that rate you won't have any ammonition and the insurgents will eventually come back to power.

better than losing several troops, which cost the taxpayer just as much to train, equip, pay, feed, etc...

MLRS now employs a HE warhead on the projectiles. The m30 with submunitions was never brought below a 1% dud rate.

There's a type of round that'll spread ball bearing rather than make a lot of fire and shit... maybe thats what they used.
