This whole trial was a disgrace! The judge and the cops didn't deserve to hold the positions they had! Totally disregarding people's rights, it happened even then and it still does!
Google Jason Li, Vancouver riots- same pointless violence created by same unfulfilled and country hating elite Americans, only thing different is in the 60s they hid behind "causes" so they could get their rocks off beating cops, whereas now the cop would taze them till their brains were coming out their ears....
WHERE CAN I WATCH THIS DOWNLOAD IT WHATEVER?! cant find it in theaters or online.
****Netflix has it as "Chicago 10" & "Chicago Conspericy trial"
Facinating movies of real American History about a piecefull movement obstructed by Law enforcment that applyed marshal Law and created a police state, on a group of Yippies (not Hippies, get it right it does mater). Yippies were peacful and for that they were bloodied and they stoped AS TOLD, & were beaten bloody,
Shit, if i went back in time to see George Washington......would he greet me or hang me for being black? I would have to run the other way. FUCK George W.
Beautiful! Beautiful! You go judge! You put this pure covetous self-centeredness priveledge thinking to the curb. It's called personal responsibility! Read Booker T Washington and find the true leader of the black movement for the equality of all mankind to live in harmony with one another. You hear someone spouting WEB DuBois and the NAACP you're hearing a bunch of crap!
not sure how to feel... i mean the guy is totally out of line: the judge that is... i don't know what i would've done if given the same situation. the layers went down as well that's why it's not the chicago 7 it's the 10 -- lawyers went down as well. . . so i d k the constitutional rights are violated ... but what to do??? open pandoras box?? or when in rome do as the romans???
@benrennik Seale wanted to defend himself instead of accepting the lawyers the other guys used, which would be his constitutional rights (as he says). The judge denied it, even though the lawyers and other defendants were cool with it. When Seale wouldn't shut up, he was restrained, then bound and gagged. Even the prosecution was like, "Dude, we have to untie him."
I read about that judge. He was an pissant. Nobody liked having cases under him. He was a grumpy ass old man during the trial, and he was still a grumpy ass old man when he died, sometime in 83 I believe.
I saw the film the other night and hope it helps educatate people about the 68 Democratic convention and all the happened, however I was turned off by the use of rap music. No such thing existed then and I believe many of the great songs and writers that came from that era would not appreciate it.
its true though i've read the book "the black panthers speak" and i read the whole court records and booby seale's lawyer was not present so therfore he did have the right to speak on behalf of himself
haven't seen the movie but i doubt they show how it really went. bobby seale lost his consciousness as they had gagged him and chained him into a chair chains so tight that he lost his consciousness. ppl in the jury were crying as cops would start beating him as he tried to move his fingers to make his blood circulate again. if i remember right, he wasnt allowed to say a word.
That doesn't mean he can insult the judge all he likes. If you behave disrespectfully in court you are generally made to shut up. This may be challenging for a hippy to understand, but that's how it works.
I'd call him superman if he likes, as long as that allows me to present my case.
I certainly wouldn't address him as 'old man' or accuse him of acting in the same manner as a slave owner. That's simply disrespectful, no matter who he is.
But then again, I'm not a Hippy. I'm sure in your world calling people old and labelling them as sheep and slave owners is a completely normal thing to do.
There is nothing "honorable" or "super" about deny a man his right to defend himself while his attorney is ill. One of the purposes of the counterculture movement was to fix a broken system. And ass kissing would have taught people to be sheep instead of asserting yourself when the constitution is being ignored........Superman
in what ever way you may interpret this video, the fact of the matter is that all it shows is an angry man rambling insults at a judge, who allegedly did not permit him to defend himself (possibly for valid reasons), who then orders to have him sit down. For all I know the judge was just about to give him permission, but upon being interrupted, saw no alternative but to enforce court rule.
The defendant was assertive, I give you that, ... but so was the judge. Tough luck.
I don't know the american legal system nor this particular case well enough. Maybe people are only allowed to defend themselves under particular circumstances.
What I know for sure is that a defendant not knowing enough about court proceedings could greatly hurt his own case when trying to defend himself. You know how in the movies the lawyer of the opposition always jumps up and shouts 'objection' when an unsuitable question is asked. They'd be all over him with that.
If you say so. I don't know if your legal system grants everyone the right to defend oneself. Postponing the trial would seem like the prudent cause of action.
Anyways, I'd say mr Seale would have been better off listening to what the judge had to say, rather than interrupting him in the middle of a sentence.

I know the director is trying to show hypocrisy and kafkaesque absurdity. But the animation looks downright fucking stupid, and belittles whatever message the filmmaker is making.

MOst of the music in chicago 10 was From Rage Against the MAchine. Its left wing rock rap style band with a revolutionary core.

The Man's attorney was sick....what possible valid reason could he have to deny him the chance to defend himself?

After his attorney became ill, Bobby Seale asked the judge to postpone the trial....Fair enough, right????
After Judge Hoffman refused to postpone the trail, Bobby asked to defend himself.... Again fair enough, right????
Judge Hoffman wanted Bobby to use the attorney of the other seven defendants.
It was not Judge Hoffman's job to decide if Bobby could defend himself....He could advise him not to do so, but he cannot deny him that right.
dboy1289 3 years ago 3

It was the Chicago EIGHT. Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, David Dellinger, Tom Hayden, Rennie Davis, John Froines, Lee Weiner, and Bobby Seale.
Seale hurled bitter attacks at Judge Hoffman in court, calling him a "fascist dog," a "pig," and a "racist," among other things.
Kandersfeld 4 years ago
The film is called Chicago Ten because it includes the two lawyers who were jailed for contempt by Judge Hoffman.

could it be the judge was a "fascist dog,""pig," and/or a "racist." Just a thought.
