Is anyone else reminded of Rancid when listening to Stance Punks? Even the lead singers sound alike. They both have this mellow, angsty sound that recalls the glory of the 90s. That's what's so great Japanese music. They're catching up on all the pop and counter-cultural movements of yesteryear, thus allowing those of us still dwelling in the past to briefly escape this 21st century hell.

I was saying they didn't have punk when we had Iggy and The Stooges or The Ramones (early 70s). You think they were already imitating The Cure in the 80s? And what about 90s grunge? Maybe they had/have all that stuff and I'm just not privy to it in my vast abyss of ignorance, but going on what I know (or don't know), I still say they're catching up (which is just fine by me).

I lived in japan during the 90s because that's where i'm from, and I get so frustated that americans always think that everyone is copying off of them, especially when americans were copying britain in the first place

@DarttheLegend I understand the nature of your frustration and certainly have to plead ignorance this time, but it's not unreasonable that Americans take this point of view. We're running around with no censorship for the past century but other cultures/countries weren't/aren't so liberal (soviet russia for example). It's also not unreasonable in this particular case because 9/10 modern Japanese pop songs contain at least some English. I'm no cultural expert, but that strikes me as significant.

@DarttheLegend In case the point of using soviet russia wasn't clear: during the soviet regime, america appeared to be the pinnacle of freedom and when the soviet government dissolved, guess whose culture was in line to be integrated? American culture has infiltrated Russia to a repulsive degree.

Anyway, if it makes you feel any less frustrated, I've been listening to Japanese music almost exclusively for the past 6 months (which says a lot). Kudos to Japan for sticking with the good stuff.
