@truthslap There really wasn't a point. Laura Bush was a 17 year-old high school student when she ran a stop sign, like many new teenage drivers do. Oops! Kennedy was a grown man, drunk, and left the scene. He didn't report it until the next morning when he was sober. Mary Jo Kopechne just may have lived had he tried to rescue her instead of leaving her in the vehicle to die. Because his last name was Kennedy he was able to plea bargain and get only 2 months in jail - and that was suspended.

I remember being in the Pittsburgh airport about 30 - odd years ago when who walked through but Senator Byrd and his wife, by themselves. At the time, I was on the city council of a major West Virginia city and I walked up and shook his hand and we talked. He was courtly and very gracious, as always, and it was a pleasure to meet him.

This guy has been a senator since 1959! Byrd joined the Ku Klux Klan when he was 24 in 1942. His local chapter unanimously elected him Exalted Cyclops. Byrd joined with other Southern and border state Democrats to filibuster the Civil Rights Act of 1964, personally filibustering the bill for 14 hours. He also opposed the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
