What I like about Kengo (and Bushido Blade) is that it's a more realistic fighting game that requires a lot of skill, it's not just mashing buttons. You have to be precise and killing a opponent with one certain slash on the throat is really amusing.

Now, I know who Kojiro and Musashi are but, while they were good they weren't THAT good; Musashi and Kojiro were unfairly dominant, I mean, while above, other swordsmen of Japanese history, the difference between Musashi, Kojiro, and the rest, was like the difference between an average NBA basketball player, and Kobe Bryant, but, in this game, the difference betweent he other Samurai masters, was like the difference between a mortal and a god.

Just pick Sasaki Kojiro or Musashi, with Kojiro do the overhead strike that immediately brings the sword back up, and with Musashi, just do a thrust with a side sweep and you will sail straight to the end of the game it fucking sucks.

Example; in Kengo; Master of Bushido, you screw up with a step, you're dead.  Its as simple as that. While not as realistic as the first Bushido Blade, it kept some anatomical realism; step the wrong way in MOB, and you're dead. In Legend of the 9 all you like, all have to do is run around hammering buttons, I really hated it. In Master of Bushido you needed genuine skill and a sense of timing.

Reviews and alike is all about who ever is doing them, sure be carefull buying a game but that goes for anything. Cloverfield for instance got great reviews, but I think it sucked balls, that way we are all different. I think I'm gonna buy this game... I may be dissapointed but who knows...

I am a Kendoka (One who practices Kendo / Kenjutsu: Japanese sword fighting) and I practice Iaido (sword drawing). I can say that Soul Calibur was alright, but not very realistic. This actually looks more like what is done in real life (and death). Of course, dismemberment is something that is graphic in nature and scares people. Last Samurai had some scenes like that.

For you ultra hardcore Samurai fanboys, who will play anything with a Katana in it, even a piece of crap like this, to get over 100 kills on the bonus games, survival mode or whatever its called, just pick Sasaki Kojiro and do the overhead hack over and over. Kojiro and Musashi are the two most dominant characters, just pick either and you'll easily plow through the title.

Soul Calibur is an arcade game dude, and in Japan its illegal to show dismembering on any entertainment medium. Well, of people; that is why neither in Kengo, nor Soul Calibur will people loose limbs. Believe it or not the force responsible for those laws, was Fist of the North Star; the graphic nature of the cartoon outraged Japanese parents, who for all intents and purposes outlawed dismembering in kid's entertainment.

Whu....huh? Are you kidding me? Japanese censorship is extremely lax compared to American when it comes to violence in kid's programs.

Dragonball Z was made after Fist of the North Star and has Tien getting his arm cut of in the first season.

Added to that, Elfen Lied, Hellsing, and the Samurai X OVAs all feature graphic dismemberments and were made post-FOTNS.

In cartoons perhaps, but not with video games; Shadow of Rome for example was never released in Japan, because it had too much human being dismemberment. If its monster dismemberment, then they are okay with it, however if its person dismemberment, they are not okay with it.

Also, Fist of the North Star? That caused an uproar among Japanese parents; the only reason the cartoon is bloody NOW, is because the audience has grown up. Before it used to shounen, or, whatever ranks below shounen in age group, now, Fist of the North Star is borderline shounen and seinen, that is it walks that tightrope, aimed primarily at people in their late teens and early 20's.

Part of the reason video game censorship is stricter, is because where kids watch cartoons with their parents, they play video games, unsupervised, so make it easier on parents they simply ban any human dismemberment games.

Because those are different things. Also, Madworld, a Japanese made game is insanely gorey, as is No More Heroes, both for the Wii, the "family" system.

I think people just want button mashers, with little strategy. I got the Kengo game for PS2, and it definitely tested your patience and willingness to learn, which, after playing so many button mashers, was a good thing. I often was bothered by how samurai are depicted in many movies as just swordsmen who slashed people up. Samurai fighting styles were about precision, not wild, flashy, crazy moves.

They don't even bother with the things it goes into being a boxer: the footwork, the telegraphing, the technique that goes into the punches themselves. Fighting and Martial Arts in general is more than just people hitting each other.
