Pomme Fritz is one of the most important and pioneering EPs ever recorded, like much of The Orb. This is a unique blend of techno, tribal, noise, surrealism, ambient, etc. Very special, now available in an Expanded Version on CD too! Amazingly wonderful.
Damn dude. like three summers ago, I smoked pot all the time and tripped every week. That also happened to be the summer I discovered the orb. Their music can take you far away.
I'm a long time fan and I still can't understand why people shit on this record. If they'd made another like the first two you'd just call them repetitive.
Yes this is by far the deepest orb song ever. They did a lot of gay stuff like little puffy clouds and all that, but this track and there is this one called "plateau" off the Orbus Terrarum album that is super deep like this too.
Well all you have to do is listen to the first two albums then stick on this tuneless dirge and you will see. As a rule of thumb any track by the orb featuring that german dude who's name escapes me at the moment is crap.
The album this was on went very badly with most people, including you. I realise how sentimental and borderline corny this is getting but since I liked little fluffy clouds when I was about 6, I remember somebody buying me this album - Pomme Fritz - the following Christmas. And I listened to it from a young age and it has stuck with me to this day and some of the voice samples on the disc are engrained in my head like "it's really just the sun" due to some kind of subliminal messaging effect.
Point being, if there was a point, yeah this album is easy to dislike, especially with the downright peculiar tracks like 'We're Pastie To Be Grill You' but also has the ability to paralyse you in a dreamy and ultimately positve way - like this track and take 'Alles Ist Schoen' (though dating slightly by now. Somewhere along the line the orb did lose it but it was not necessarily here. If anything this album is the artist at it's most surreal.
you have a point, they went from being musicians to artists and that's why it's crap. It was a ploy to try and prove they were more than a pop band by enlisting tuneless germans and thrash leaving. Compare this to the Blue Room and my point is made.
Aye you're probably right... first two albums are old but they are something unique and enjoyable. This one ain't up to those standards but I still think its has some genuine moments, even though hard to like and at times the art doesn't always pull off.
Wow, I never knew this existed! I am transfixed by its strangeness. You don't need to be stoned to feel high watching this video. Thank you so much for posting!
For years I've wondered where the "electroshock" quote comes from. Anybody know?
I am really appreciate that you to post this video, it brings back my memories from the the time of 1993-1994 last seen on Chill Out Zone by the MTV. Great stuff!
I remember seeing clips of this on MTV in or around 1994, along with a short interview with Alex Patterson, he said that he had always been fascinated with 'flying objects' and said that was the inspiration for that flying blue shape in the video.
have to say again this record is fucking off the great scale. it's imposible to count how ma y times i have listened to pomme fritz. even the cover...idk just way insipred record.
I would defently go into this in a private chat right now im not so fond of sharing my feelings to a youtube question. the orb was there in time when i needed change in my life and this track is a big part of it.
amazing tune. i used to love the orb and no, you don't need drugs to listen to it. their later stuff disappointed and the numerous remix albums grated on me for the want of new material, anything beyond orbvs terrarvm sucked. to think i stumbled upon them by accident as i'd actually asked for an orbital album!
i can still mind the first time i heard the orb was camping up in the hills in scotland with my palz on the shrooooooms playing the tape over and over and over again get the pic lol
The Orb's best track by a mile. On an album that drove me mad when I first heard it. This could have been made yesterday and it would still sound new. Amazing, seeing as a lot of their stuff was yawningly shapeless.
I love the orb, but it doesn't have the same journey unless you are tripping on double dip aums. in the comfort of you own living room, then you feel like your eyes are going to bleed trying to keep up with the sound and motion.
The first time I listened to the album 'Pomme Fritz', I was on acid. The music went right out there - take an acid and you'll see the trajectory of the album go deeper and deeper. Then, there's a sudden thump that shocks you, and all through the album there's a sample about how 'you've just had a heavy session of electro-shock therapy'. What's the last track called, after the shock? His immortal logness! The trees! I actually blew my mind there and then
Orbeidelia, The feeling of sound, Doctor's with minds that strech like a Dali painting giving us our bubble of love to drift around in,hence The Orb.With it's false looks. Trying to be a mere bubble in reality it's a place where people play with clay all day.Making moon's and star's to paint and put into the heavens
Ahm... This is one of my favorite songs ever. It has something of a bach fugue, mandalas, circles in circles.
We used to chill to it with closed eyes in a basement with VMPS Super Tower II Speakers driven by my Adcom GFA 565 Monoblock amps. No video needed, my friends.
Same here,East Coast America, Baltimore....FEVER was the place at Paradox in the Shitty city,Ultraworld,Lonnie Fisher (DJ SUN),Dr.Pattersons words of encouragement at the Limelite in NYC...Peace & Love, Find your rainbows and don't forget to bend them every once in awile
Thanks!!! Im so grateful to you... Many years ago I see this gem in my far, far away country Chile... I was so mesmerized... I loved this song and the video complemented it perfectly. Simple, and yet so deep, specialy the hands and the crystal balls turning and spinning, like the Cosmos, like my memory when I heard this song. After it finished I remember asking myself, when I could see this again...
Thanks for posting! I love this tune! The video is brilliant too! I love it! :-)

Yeah, check out the lyrics on the CD of the second track, it doesn't make sense at all.
It's fabulous, fantastic and unique.
I saw it years and years ago, it's my favorite CD, Pomme Fritz.
The weirdness of the clip, the sounds, it got me addicted on first view.
