I can't believe that so many people have such negative thinking when it comes protecting humans in various tribal groups from various institutions that wants to harm them more then make their life even better. These people like other tribal groups are our ancestors from whom we expanded into our environments and these groups are still very attached to their roots then many of us are to ours. So like many other people I truly support the protection of such groups. We all must unite to help them.
Saludos.
If Mr. Cameron wants to use the US Senate influence for good, he should perhaps convince them to, say, support a Palestinian state and put an end to Israeli colonization of Arab land. You see, the US does have something to do with this issue - the US is Israel's main sponsor; the US does have a leverage in there. Belo Monte, however, is our problem alone, and it's been financed with our own money. Gringoes are not invited to opine on it.
@RafaelFernandeSantos VIADO!!! wow you enlightened cunt! i dont agree with US foreign policy anywhere, but that doesnt mean we cant have an opinion on whats going on in all of ours world, so why are you defending an issue you clearly dont believe in?
I love that so few people have seen this. Some months ago Mr. Cameron said that he was so invested against Belo Monte, that he planned to talk to US Senators about it. "US Senators?", I asked myself. And that's it for me. Whether or not one believes in the virtues of believing whatever celebrities say, I don't want my country budging at the threat of parochial and self-entitled foreigners. Like all that happens within our part of the Amazônia, Belo Monte is a Brazilian issue only.
What I can't stand is people from Texas - who last year alone approved freaking 12 COAL TOXIC inefficient power plants putting their nose in brazilian issues. Clean your garbage in the first place. After that, please start treating the Mexicans like real people. Then we'll talk.
Thank God our Hollywood Stars use their reputations to speak on behalf of the Amazon. We are all one people and the Amazon is the lungs of OUR PLANET. We must unite and chose to protect the resources of for the next seven generations.
@suraj1h The Hollywood Stars fouled their names to participate in a liar movie like this. And please do not put God in the midst of it because if he exist he certainly doesn’t approve a country to be slandered with a movie that manipulates people against Brazil.
The greatest interest in the preservation of the Brazilian Amazon are Brazilians. We know what the future of biodiversity in the forest will give us lots of money. In fact this is why many foreigners are always saying that the Amazon belongs to humanity. You don’t care about the Indians or with nature. You are wanting to find a pretext for stealing our forest.
I'm not justifying one error with another. I'm merely pointing it out that peoples and countries with terrible history of dealing with natives cannot and should not be telling others what to do about it.
The Indians lived on the law of the jungle, where the stronger survives. Unfortunately for them, they pretty much lost to european diseases and lost all their land to colonists and exploradores.
ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS??????? BRAZIL - THE AMAZON RAINFOREST IS THE LUNGS OF THIS EARTH! IT BELONGS TO THE CITIZENS OF THE WORLD AND NOT JUST TO YOU OR ANY OTHER GOVERNMENT! REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE INVADERS AND ARE JUST AS BAD AS THE AMERICAN COLONIALISTS - I AM NOT AMERICAN, NOR EUROPEAN - I AM A CITIZEN OF THIS WORLD. GROW UP AND DONT COMPARE YOURSELVES TO THE US OR EUROPE TO JUSTIFY MASS GENOCIDE ON A HUMANITARIAN, ECOLOGICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL LEVEL.
@novusperatus Funny! Many people around the world think that the Amazon belongs to humanity, but these same people think the Great Barrier Reef belongs to Australia, the Grand Canyon belongs to the U.S, the Louvre museum in Paris belongs to France, NASA and Microsoft belongs to the U.S, etc. Even the Antarctic many countries think that it belongs to they. Gringos Hypocrites.
@novusperatus The "Australia is a European country outside Europe." You did a genocide of the Aborigines (in Tasmania were hunting as animals, including women and children), introduced several of exotic species in their country that led to the extinction of much of its fauna and flora. Now they want to say how we should take care of the Amazon.
@firstlourenco RU SERIOUS??? I CREATED THE YOUTUBE ACCOUNT WHEN I WAS IN AUSTRALIA - DOESNT MAKE ME AN AUSTRALIAN. IM LEBANESE, THATS A COUNTRY IN THE MIDDLE EAST THAT HAS BEEN AND CONTINUES TO EXPERIENCE FIRST CLASS EXPLOITATION FROM YOUR GRINGOS - SO DONT CLASSIFY ME AS ONE. AND YOU ARE MISTAKEN, I DO NOT THINK THAT THE WORLDS TREASURES BELONG TO THEIR COUNTY'S LEGAL BOUNDARIES. GO AHEAD, LETS ALLOW ALL IGNORANTS TO KILL OF WHAT REMAINS OF OUR WORLDS NATURAL TREASURES FOR THE SAKE OF PROFIT!
@firstlourenco YOU ARE THE GRINGO HYPOCRITES, BECAUSE YOU ARE JUST SETTING THEM ON A PEDESTAL AND FOLLOWING ON THEIR FOOTSTEPS. GREAT ARGUMENT U HAVE. THAT IS ALL.
@novusperatus Rsrsrs! Very beautiful. I know where is Lebanon! We have many Lebanese immigrants in Brazil. I like Lebanese food. If you agree that the Middle Eastern oil also belongs to humanity I can agree that the Amazon belongs to humanity! This is the problem! Everyone wants our forest but nobody wants to share their wealth. . I know that in Lebanon there is little oil.
@firstlourenco if I agree on Middle Eastern Oil? so now as a Lebanese u want me to be responsible for Arab oil in general so u can justify your country's actions? but let me answer u, if i had the power i would have stopped oil production a long time ago and encouraged greener transportation. and another thing,if you or anyone else were to come to lebanon to protect the cedar forests and stand up against its exploitation were it to be in danger, i would welcome u with open arms, & crown ur head
@novusperatus Ok, but we need to clarify a thing. We Brazilians protect the Brazilian Amazon. This movie and many others like this who speak of the destruction of the forest is a liar. We still have 80% of intact forest and we have massive Indian reservations. Of course we have problems with some large farmers who destroy the forest but our government is making all efforts to combat it.
Respond to this video... Sorry. I have to disagree. not 80% of it is intact. nop. and well... if other countries did destroy their Forests, it's not a reason to go the "easy way" saying that the Dams are harmless, because they are not! just imagine if everyone just sayd "oh well... it doesn't make any difference" then how troubled it would be. there is always good reasons to defend ideologies and this is not what Im trying to do. but, in the long count, every single tree and life counts!
@llichtveld I've read more books than most people who are educated, not only because I have a PHD, but because I like to learn about almost any subject. This type of argumentation doesn’t work for me. But anyway thanks for the suggestion. If defending my country the lies that are posted on the net about Brazil is be stupid so I am. Maybe I'm stupid for wasting my time talking to you.
@firstlourenco I don't believe you are stupid. We have the right to protect our country from national and international lies. At the beggining I was against Belo Monte, but I didn't really know much of it. I probably knew as much as those who, today, are against it as well. I signed two petitions against its construction, but now I see I did wrong. My mistake showed itself necessary, it made me more interested in this issue and now I have arguments to discuss it more comprehensively.
Brazil wants to develop. Some Brazilian people need the jobs this specific "development" will bring. Many Brazilians seem upset foreigners feel sad, real sad about this environmental massacre.
We are not trying to interfere with your country. We try to urge you avoid mistakes humanity did before. Maybe you can find a better way to develop and open a better path for all. Following the WRONG steps others did before you, will bring regret to us, to you and to the next generations. Good luck...
CAMERON, STFU. STAY IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY WHAT IS BEING TERRORIZED BY BANKERS AND GREEN FASCISTS. THE PEOPLE IN THE US AND EUROPE ARE BRAINWASHED BY THE GREENS WITH MOVIES AND COMMERCIALS TO USE LESS ENERGY. BRAZIL HAS THE RIGHT TO DEVELOP. THOSE FOREIGNERS DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE AMAZON OR ANY GREEN AGENDA, IT'S ALL ABOUT STOPPING DEVELOPMENT AND THEY HATE IT WHEN BRAZIL OR OTHER COUNTIES DEVELOP. WAKE UP!!!
@tomlouet It doesn't matter at all where the hell you come from. If you want to put time and energy into helping save the most beautiful things nature has made for us then it doesn't matter if you are American or African. Your country of Brazil is amazingly biologically diverse and whomever wants to stop the needless extinction of thousands of species is a good person. If you want to live in a country where nobody else can come in, try tyrannical North Korea. I'm sure you'd enjoy yourself...
You (U.S. and EU) destroyed almost all their forests and now want to tell us what should be done. James Cameron keeps making movies. I liked the movie Avatar. But please do not come to our country again. Do not meddle in our internal politics. You lie when you speaks of the Amazon. Our government respects and protects the forest and the Indians. When we build something in the forest we do serious impacts studies and there are huge environmental and social compensations.
@firstlourenco : Okay so you tell us what will happen to those people , if you guys so happen to have this very strategically calculated and thought over?
@Yesitsanais Brazil was the first country to think about the environment and the poorest people when building dams. Seek information about the construction of Itaipu in 70 years
@Yesitsanais The indigenous area affected by hydroelectric Belo Monte is extremely small. In our country there are Indian reservations much larger than most European countries. Our government, through the FUNAI, gives all kinds of assistance to Indians (health, safety, food etc.).
The people (no Indians) living in the area affected by the dam will be paid (in cash) or receive a new house in another location (better than the currently living). The municipalities (cities) that are close to the dams will receive "royalties" of hydroelectric plants (a good portion of tax money collected to help mitigate the environmental and social impacts).

@firstlourenco How does tax money mitigate environmental damage??? Are you stupid? There ARE indians living in the area. The Indians don't want a new house in another location.
Brasil has dammed hunderds of rivers. When is enough?? When will people realize that economic growth is killing the planet? You have no right to force the indians off their land because you want even more electricity! You should read the book "The blood bankers" if you want to know why those dams really get built. It's not because they are good for Brasil!
@llichtveld It is important to remember that the Indians before being Indians, they are also Brazilian citizens because they were born and live in Brazil. Such as my home and the house from all other Brazilian before belonging us, it belonging to the Brazilian State. The country's interest comes first. And as I said less than 1% of the Indian reservation will be affected.
@llichtveld With respect to energy solar, wind etc... Our government and institutions aren’t idiots. We chose the dams because they are the most cost effective option (economic and environmental). Do you think that the manufacture of mirrors and alloys metal used in solar and wind don’t generate a huge environmental impact?
@llichtveld It's easy for you or for Americans and Europeans living in places where there is a high energy consumption per capita say that we in Brazil don’t need more energy! I wanted to see the Uruguayans live with half the energy they consume today or Americans live with 20% of the energy they consume!
@llichtveld If Americans and Europeans want to help preserve the Amazon because instead of get involved in our internal policy, they do not transfer their solar and wind energy technology. We Brazilians have transferred many technologies developed in Brazil to Africans countries. This is help! But the U.S. and EU don’t do it because it will not give them profit.
@Yesitsanais Environmental impacts: Many studies have been done to evaluate the costs and benefits of the project. The results indicate that there are not endemic species in the affected area and the area flooded by the dam will be very small if we take into account the amount of energy generated (much better results than the world average). When the reservoir is full there will be a huge effort (which will involve hundreds of workers) to rescue the animals the area, avoiding they drowning.
I am also from Alberta Canada home of the oil sands and I don't support that either. Trying to justify this dam with other countries mistakes is very sad. We all have to change how we create our power even here in Alberta, with the worst environmental record of any place on the planet. If all countries said why not Alberta did this and that, we will be in deep trouble with climate change. We have to change the way we treat people and the planet, because what we do now, we do to our Kids.
@Ecoinventions2009 I understand your concern, but what this video says is a lie. The environmental impacts of the dam will be very small. The Indians have less than 1% of its reserves area affected by the dam. I also worry about “the oil sands” of his country, but I understand that this is something that pertains only to the Canadian people. I respect your country, your people and your institutions so I don’t meddle. I would like people around the world also respected my country.
I am a Canadian who does not agree with the our Native people have been treated, but to displace so many people and cause so much damage to the environment when there is no need with new fantastic eco friendly inventions coming to market every day, is not smart thinking. We have the Bloom Energy Server and the MYT 6" Genset for sale both cheap energy at half the cost and Eco Friendly. The EEStor EESU Electrical Energy Storage Unit will be made public very soon and there are lots more to come.
The current world status is in a race to achieve more efficient and sustainable energy production and to reach that, i sincerely hope that we do not ruin the enviroment to a non return point. You can see the fragile states that the world economies are right now. If one country hamps such invesments it will never achieve such aims. Its all about the long term...
As quoted in the video! "i am very humbled to stand here with such strong leaders. You have a wealth my world does not understand".. I suppose there are people in Brazil who may watch this video and say.. Who does James Cameron think he is?, with all his millions of dollars, who doesn't even belong to this country...
people and attitudes like this from this same world, who do not understand! What does the Amazon Rainforest have to do with the shit in the USA now and in the PAST? NOW and FUTURE
Brazil has the choice to be The Saviour or The Destroyer of The Amazon Rainforest. At present, it seems she has chosen the latter option. Belo Monte will open up a further SIXTY dams needing to be built there. China, in the past few weeks has admitted to major environmental problems with The Three Gorges Dam, the largest in the world. Peru has halted her dam, but Brazil is scurrying ahead. They are risking the very life of this planet, and they do not care. Shame on your Brazil.
I knew James Cameron had a sensibility for the nature to make such a beautiful movie like Avatar. Thank you for trying to help the Amazon and the tribes!
For all those hating on the Americans...you have every right, but don't deny that what will happen in Brazil is wrong. Don't follow our footsteps, you shouldn't think it's okay just beacuse we did it first. We might be the most powerful country in the world, but it's for all the wrong reason. This is no longer a political issue, it's a morale issue. I'm only 17, but it's my generation that will either make or break this world, and if hope and faith resides in your heart...we will make it!
I am brazilian and I admire Cameron's initiative, he's not trying to preach anything wrong, and he was not responsible for the onslaught of north american indians. In fact I think he would fight against it if he could go back in time. A shame nobody can. And shame too on the brazilians who get all patriot only to tell north americans "KEEP OUT its our business" but don't do shit about the things that are going on. I would openly accept american, european, asian, african or any other help.
I understand why Brazilians are pissed off by James Cameron, multi millionaire/film maker going to their country and telling them what to do. He's been travelling around the world, putting his to cents in; he came to Canada to tell us to knock off some mining operation. Heard of job creation? People who need to make a living? Michael Douglas was driven out of town when he came to Canada to protest the baby seal hunt. I agree, take care of your own, first.
@debberDDT it was martin sheen that was here in Newfoundland. James Cameron is there in the rain forest trying to protect the rain forest and the tribes from having their ancestorial homes drowned out. It sad that the damn builders are too interested in making money and not caring about the indigenous people that were born there or the non human species that will lose there habitats due to corporate greed.
This is absurd. This hole " Indians fuck off" "yankees go home" story is nothing but a delusion. This Brazilian idea that we must - and can - kill every tree, and destroy every environment at our pleasure, just because the 1st world idiots did, makes me sick. Development at any cost so they say... The true development it´s not based in death and destruction (we should already know this). Shame on their neolithic minds.
@osenhortodopoderoso Dude I'M A BRAZILIAN!!!! THAT'S WHAT I SAY "This Brazilian idea that WE must.." And when we are talking about Nature everybody have the right to say anything. The biosphere do not recognize countries borders.
and the leader of imperialist power but hell is being raised in all sorts of corners, and this right here... this dam is brasil is in the largest rainforest in the world!!!! poor animals poor species! cant we just fact the terrors that ultimately US HUMANS have created instead of pin pointed other countries wrongs?
to a country and really know what you are talking about or start change in your own community, in Bolivia for instance there are movements for change such as evos new mother nature law. NOONE here is saying their country is perfect!!1 fuck the united states is a disgrace is my opinion
for the people commenting saying "fuck off gringos", i just want to say i know the environmental damages caused by the united states is more than just terrible, but disgusting but hey maybe its because i was raised believing in pachamama but ANY damage done to ANY country needs to be raised awareness in and im sick of just reading these comments either being hypocritical or judgemental, either go
Honestly, all you guys need to stop talking so much bullshit. The natives of this village OBVIOUSLY would like the help, and James went and helped them out wtf is wrong with that? Nothing. Get your heads out of your asses. @tomlouet@mindua1939
The government sees it another way. Clean energy security, and more jobs for relatively poor people who live in undeveloped, unpopulated areas in Para state. Plus, with NESA’s required investments in schools, hospitals, housing, water and sewer, the lives of the people living near Belo Monte will be improved, the government has said numerous times, as has Ibama president Americo Ribeiro.
Form Forbes Magazine. Sounds pretty good right? Sounds better than what these people have at the moment.
yeah yeah, you're the typical "computer activists". you sit in your confortable chair, in your nice house, fully powered by the dirty energy from your countries, which are the biggest polutters in the world, and then you worry about... Brazil? the country with the cleanest energy in the world? you know what, fuck off, you hypocritical gringos
@mindua1939 The crimes against indians in North America were terrible and in no way justify further crimes in South America. Your energy is not clean if it is stained with blood, forced displacement and extinctions.
@llichtveld And by the way, mr.sofa activist, if you can find any mass energy provider that does not pollutes at all or does not produces problems in balance of power and social status, please let the scientific community know, because you are clearly out-smarting all of them, including those dudes at the Cern.
Just remember that you are also using this "tainted" source of energy to see this video, for example.
Don't try to elevate yourself beyond the clearly petty level that you find yourself
if most corrupted and blind humans in this world wants war, then they shall get it . i believe that mother nature and all its creatures, basically all that is good, will eventually triumph against the evil.
THIS IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT, thanks cameron, its good to see good people like him understand whats good in this world. :) i hope atleast some people get this message, wonderful film.
ALL THE NATURAL RESOURCES THAT NGOS DEFEND TODAY, WILL BE USED AGAINST HUMANITY WHEN A GLOBAL GOVERNMENT IS ESTABLISHED.
"True, there will be a season of peace and prosperity during which the beast will gain popularity and esteem. He will make the world's problems seem nothing - but peace will end in bloodshed, and prosperity in great famine on Earth.
North-Americans, please, just check on the history books the way that you dealt with your indigenous population, then i guess you all will be ashamed to even make a simple comment on this matter over a FOREIGN and SOVEREIGN country. So please don't give us any mambo-jambo about how we should treat the indians in OUR country. Thank you very much, and keep OUT.
Sorry avatar but I was in brazil in 1968 what you did to indios in the amazon is the greatest cruelty i've ever come across. And reverend moon is also involved in the ravishing it's fauna.
The board of Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Economico e Social (BNDES) yesterday approved a bridge loan of R $ 1.087 billion for the project of Belo Monte Dam in ParÁ resources function as an advance funding, not yet approved, that the bank will give the venture, whose total investment is estimated at $ 19.6 billion.
@TheRenatto0o This may be true, the part about having another motive. But the dam costs $10-17 billion depending on who you ask. Brazil is willing to pay this because the hydropower they think it will generate will exceed the cost. Thus they expect to make more than $17 billion! Cameron would need to make 10 Avatars to pay them off. So if this will help him make Avatar 2 and 3, then more power to him! I know it sucks but we need rich white folks to give poor brown folks a name sometimes.
Environmentalism is filthy, once again serving for the self-aggrandizing of improductive wealthy cultural trash makers like Cameron. Yeah the dam is "only for power", like Cameron's multi-bazillion dollar mansion runs on the spirits of the forest. The minute he lives in a wood hut he can talk, until then SHUT THE FUCK UP.
@linghun There's a difference between living in a mansion and building a dam that will ruin the lives of thousands of people. I doubt Cameron's house permanently affected multiple tribes of indigenous South Americans.
@InsanelyxLogical The damn will affect a few lives negatively but will afect tens of millions of lives positively. And James Camerons mansion only exists because the Indians of California were wiped out centuries ago. Stop being a Hollywood puppet.
@linghun James Cameron was not the direct cause of wiping Indians out. And yeah, the dam will affect lives positively, but there are other ways of harnessing that power that will help people without wiping out dozens of tribes.
@InsanelyxLogical North-Americans, please, just check on the history books the way that you dealt with your indigenous population, then i guess you all will be ashamed to even make a simple comment on this matter over a FOREIGN and SOVEREIGN country. So please don't give us any mambo-jambo about how we should treat the indians in OUR country. Thank you very much, and keep OUT.
"While many countries are somewhat stalled in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Brazil has been making progress, in large part by combating deforestation of the Amazon. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has helped Brazil show itself as one of the greener large developing countries."
@sarahlarock Hi Sarah, I'm Rebecca, & I'm 20. I am very interested in pursuing a future career as one who goes travels the world to help others, call it mission work if you will; I want to help the indigenous cultured peoples of the planet; I have always been passionate about indigenous people, and I want to make a difference for the planet, as well. I care about the environment to great deal. I am going to start college in the fall of next year. Which major would be a good start? Thank you!
@sarahlarock Oh, and another thing I almost forgot!! Aside from college, how do you think I could get into this field of work?? Should I study anything particular? I am considering the Environmental Science major with a Social Work minor. I would be very grateful for any advice you can offer. Thank you again! Feel free to private message me, too, if you'd like! =)
The monetary system must end because it's totally consuming, predatory, hurts the nature, ends with the habitat in favor of producing this vastness of foolish things made only to stimulate consumerism without rhyme or reason head, unnecessary for people to survive (in the true sense of the word) This consumerism is hurting the planet, in disconnecting from nature and making us miserable, because this pile of rubbish does not make us happy.
The most traditional tribes don't have the same way of living and perception of life you can not just start to tell them to go away just like that, to move to a home or integrate in the civilized world or whatever... How would you react in their situation? It's very delicate.
But anybody should deserve the right to carry on living the way we want. We should also respect those who wish to change and get better social conditions. I'm talking for everyone! I post here, but I don't care about Avatar! It's just a movie! It's unreal. The situation here in Brazil is real.
The point is, there are many other way to make Clean energy cheaply without destroying the nature and that would suit "everybody's" need (Work etc...). Imposing something to someone is a violation of human rights.
I like Lula, I believe he's done a lot of good things for Brazil but I didn't really understand why he didn't consider other ways of generating energy. Everything has a consequence...
"But when money speaks, truth keeps silent" This monetary system is killing our world!
@RenattoRomano: You should stop telling things that nobody said. I'm not trying to persuade anybody unlike you... Just telling what I'm thinking.
I see you're on all the videos that talks about this subject here on youtube... I read some of your comments that you copy&paste a little bit everywhere... Strange...Why are you so involve in this, for who are you working for? You see, it's easy to suppose things when you don't know the person isn't it? But who cares!
@RenattoRomano Progress? You think the Indians must live in a modern environment? You're trying to make us believe that they desperately need the dam to 'survive', because they don't have jobs, etc.
For me they will be EXPLOITED, nothing else.
The dam, a 'friendly' project? When it's only there for the money, with no respect for the local people and their traditions and way of life? Maybe they like parasites and mud when you don't. Poverty? They don't need money to live! They have the forest!
10#_“And who told about building a fence around Brazilian forests?_
This desperation about keep indians living in “pure natural state” is something like keep them surounded with fences. Whitout social contact. OR HELP. This will not help them.
IMPORTANT FACT: ALL INDIAN IN THIS VIDEO ARE TALKING *PORTUGUESE*!!!!!!! THEY ALREADY HAVE CONTAC WITH BRAZIL STATE! BECAUSE WE BRAZILIANS TALK PORTUGUESE.
Brazil has borders Colombia(in Amazon State), right? Colombia didn’t act early fighting social troubles in this jungle areas. FACS apeared in the 1964. Poverty is a fertile ground for this kind of guerilla. What do you know about FARCS? How FARCS were created? How? Social troubles and poverty.
8#_“Schools? Hospitals? Are you sure the Indians need this?”_
I’m completely shure.
Why? How? When?
1 Because if Brazil do not act now other will. DO YOU KNOW FARCS? We must avoid the formation of groups like this groups on Brazil by doing social works YES.
2 We must do all of this respecting the enviroment. YES! THIS IS POSSIBLE.
You asked me IF I watched this Video. And I ask you IF you are reading what i’m posting.
Because i’m reading all your trash..
_______________________________________________
Now I’m talking with a Brazilian! You know my land better than me! GREAT! And I lived in more than 12 differents Brazilians States! 4 of them in North. Beautiful!
@RenattoRomano Okay, so because I've never been to Brazil and played football with the Indians, I don't have the right to talk about them and give solid arguments. You have yelled plenty of crap and crying only to say this!
If you know SO MUCH about the so poor, miserable Indians and what they need, what are you waiting for? Go for mayor of Manaus, or for president of Brazil, and everything will be solved! Or go back to the forest and to all your friends! They all think like you, right?
Since all the people in the forest have the same opinion than yours, it's simple! Go back to the Amazon forest and tell them that the dam is a 'friendly project' that will bring progress, plenty of money and a better life, with schools, medics, and no more snakes and parasites and mud and malaria and hepatitis, and no drugs and guns! :)
But you won't do any of this, it's better to stay seated and yell and criticize. What will you do to help them? Nothing at all.
@RenattoRomano I agree with this too but not about this project what they're doing, it's a violation of human rights. They want to impose this. There must be other interests behind that dam... We don't know everything...
There is also a communication problem with the local people because if this dam project would be so beneficent like they lead us to believe, why the local people aren't ok with this? Why nobody are telling them what's going on?
Almost 40.000 are searching desperatly for job in this DAM. How i know this : CNE did a list with people searching for job, earning 540 to 2000 "REAL".
A FORTUNEin a place like Altamira!
Even People living around Altamira are in this list.
Exactly, some of them don't want this change and this is a right, an human right so the gov. should find an other way to make everybody happy and not impose something just because they're a minority. This is disrespectful.
@RenattoRomano Medics, schools... You want a better situation for the Indians, and you think that dam is the solution, that it will bring medics, schools, etc. to the Indians, are you sure about it? Are you serious?
In fact you'd like to see the Indians leaving their homes in Amazonia and get a 'better' life in the corrupted and stinking cities!
You think all the Indians think the way you do? You left the forest, but some others have stayed there, and Cameron is trying to help them. That's all!
@writerblaster Belo Monte will NOT destroy the forest. People used the same arguments thing against ITAIPÚ. ITAIPÚ DIDN'T DESTROY THE INDIANS OR THE FISHES OR ANIMALS. BELO MONTE WILL NOT DESTROY THE ENVIROMENT TOO James cameron formula: 1 Create the moster(Belo Monte) 2 Show the solution(let's trouble Belo Monte with massive propaganda and INVENTING things and numbers) 3 Let's receive the money by doing avatar movies, toys and games! MOTIVE: 2 BILLIONS. Looks like a cake recipe...
If the brazilian State will use the land he must pay for it and create the social benefits in accord with enviromental law for the people involved in this case (school, hospitals and etc.). If Belo Monte do not come true indians will not receive the benefits. Just the demerits of progress. Like poverty and a possible formation of gangs or guerrillas (like FARCS). Just imagine. Colombia is half of the Brazilian Amazonas State and can fill US and EUROPE with cocaine.
Brazilian State must show presence in this places by doing friendly enviromental works like Belo Monte.
Just Building a fence arround Brazilians forests will not solve the problem as we can see in US border with Mexico. Even now drugs and people still passing to US by Mexican borders. There is an social impact we must think now.
@RenattoRomano Schools? Hospitals? Are you sure the Indians need this? So far they've lived in the forest very well, for a very long time, without that. Why should it change?
And who told about building a fence around Brazilian forests? What's the connection with the US/Mexico border? Drugs? If the Indians leave the forest and go to the cities they will do drugs. Great!
As OoColibrOo said, you're inventing things that nobody said.

You are wanting to find a pretext for stealing our forest.
firstlourenco 5 months ago

Gringos Hypocrites.
firstlourenco 5 months ago
@novusperatus The "Australia is a European country outside Europe." You did a genocide of the Aborigines (in Tasmania were hunting as animals, including women and children), introduced several of exotic species in their country that led to the extinction of much of its fauna and flora. Now they want to say how we should take care of the Amazon.

firstlourenco 5 months ago
@firstlourenco if I agree on Middle Eastern Oil? so now as a Lebanese u want me to be responsible for Arab oil in general so u can justify your country's actions? but let me answer u, if i had the power i would have stopped oil production a long time ago and encouraged greener transportation. and another thing,if you or anyone else were to come to lebanon to protect the cedar forests and stand up against its exploitation were it to be in danger, i would welcome u with open arms, & crown ur head
novusperatus 5 months ago
@novusperatus Ok, but we need to clarify a thing. We Brazilians protect the Brazilian Amazon. This movie and many others like this who speak of the destruction of the forest is a liar. We still have 80% of intact forest and we have massive Indian reservations. Of course we have problems with some large farmers who destroy the forest but our government is making all efforts to combat it.

@firstlourenco I don't believe you are stupid. We have the right to protect our country from national and international lies. My mistake showed itself necessary, it made me more interested in this issue and now I have arguments to discuss it more comprehensively.

Yesitsanais 5 months ago
@Yesitsanais Brazil was the first country to think about the environment and the poorest people when building dams. Seek information about the construction of Itaipu in 70 years
firstlourenco 5 months ago
@Yesitsanais The indigenous area affected by hydroelectric Belo Monte is extremely small. In our country there are Indian reservations much larger than most European countries. Our government, through the FUNAI, gives all kinds of assistance to Indians (health, safety, food etc.).
firstlourenco 5 months ago
The people (no Indians) living in the area affected by the dam will be paid (in cash) or receive a new house in another location (better than the currently living). The municipalities (cities) that are close to the dams will receive "royalties" of hydroelectric plants (a good portion of tax money collected to help mitigate the environmental and social impacts).

firstlourenco 5 months ago
Brasil has dammed hunderds of rivers. When is enough?? When will people realize that economic growth is killing the planet? You have no right to force the indians off their land because you want even more electricity! You should read the book "The blood bankers" if you want to know why those dams really get built. It's not because they are good for Brasil!
llichtveld 5 months ago
@llichtveld It is important to remember that the Indians before being Indians, they are also Brazilian citizens because they were born and live in Brazil. Such as my home and the house from all other Brazilian before belonging us, it belonging to the Brazilian State. The country's interest comes first. And as I said less than 1% of the Indian reservation will be affected.
firstlourenco 5 months ago
@llichtveld With respect to energy solar, wind etc... Our government and institutions aren’t idiots. We chose the dams because they are the most cost effective option (economic and environmental). Do you think that the manufacture of mirrors and alloys metal used in solar and wind don’t generate a huge environmental impact?
firstlourenco 5 months ago
@llichtveld It's easy for you or for Americans and Europeans living in places where there is a high energy consumption per capita say that we in Brazil don’t need more energy! I wanted to see the Uruguayans live with half the energy they consume today or Americans live with 20% of the energy they consume!
firstlourenco 5 months ago
@llichtveld If Americans and Europeans want to help preserve the Amazon because instead of get involved in our internal policy, they do not transfer their solar and wind energy technology. We Brazilians have transferred many technologies developed in Brazil to Africans countries. This is help! But the U.S. and EU don’t do it because it will not give them profit.
firstlourenco 4 months ago
@Yesitsanais Environmental impacts: Many studies have been done to evaluate the costs and benefits of the project. The results indicate that there are not endemic species in the affected area and the area flooded by the dam will be very small if we take into account the amount of energy generated (much better results than the world average). When the reservoir is full there will be a huge effort (which will involve hundreds of workers) to rescue the animals the area, avoiding they drowning.
firstlourenco 5 months ago
I am also from Alberta Canada home of the oil sands and I don't support that either. Trying to justify this dam with other countries mistakes is very sad. We all have to change how we create our power even here in Alberta, with the worst environmental record of any place on the planet. If all countries said why not Alberta did this and that, we will be in deep trouble with climate change. We have to change the way we treat people and the planet, because what we do now, we do to our Kids.
Ecoinventions2009 6 months ago 2
@Ecoinventions2009 I understand your concern, but what this video says is a lie. The environmental impacts of the dam will be very small. The Indians have less than 1% of its reserves area affected by the dam. I also worry about “the oil sands” of his country, but I understand that this is something that pertains only to the Canadian people. I respect your country, your people and your institutions so I don’t meddle. I would like people around the world also respected my country.
firstlourenco 5 months ago
I am a Canadian who does not agree with the our Native people have been treated, but to displace so many people and cause so much damage to the environment when there is no need with new fantastic eco friendly inventions coming to market every day, is not smart thinking. We have the Bloom Energy Server and the MYT 6" Genset for sale both cheap energy at half the cost and Eco Friendly. The EEStor EESU Electrical Energy Storage Unit will be made public very soon and there are lots more to come.
Ecoinventions2009 6 months ago
The current world status is in a race to achieve more efficient and sustainable energy production and to reach that, i sincerely hope that we do not ruin the enviroment to a non return point. ChiefyTribe 7 months ago

This is no longer a political issue, it's a morale issue. I'm only 17, but it's my generation that will either make or break this world, and if hope and faith resides in your heart...we will make it!

JESUSISTHEONLYESCAPE 1 year ago
@TheRenatto0o This may be true, the part about having another motive. But the dam costs $10-17 billion depending on who you ask. Brazil is willing to pay this because the hydropower they think it will generate will exceed the cost. Thus they expect to make more than $17 billion! Cameron would need to make 10 Avatars to pay them off. So if this will help him make Avatar 2 and 3, then more power to him! I know it sucks but we need rich white folks to give poor brown folks a name sometimes.
Proverb2012 1 year ago
Environmentalism is filthy, once again serving for the self-aggrandizing of improductive wealthy cultural trash makers like Cameron. Yeah the dam is "only for power", like Cameron's multi-bazillion dollar mansion runs on the spirits of the forest. The minute he lives in a wood hut he can talk, until then SHUT THE FUCK UP.
linghun 1 year ago
@linghun There's a difference between living in a mansion and building a dam that will ruin the lives of thousands of people. I doubt Cameron's house permanently affected multiple tribes of indigenous South Americans.
InsanelyxLogical 1 year ago
@InsanelyxLogical The damn will affect a few lives negatively but will afect tens of millions of lives positively. And James Camerons mansion only exists because the Indians of California were wiped out centuries ago. Stop being a Hollywood puppet.
linghun 1 year ago
@linghun James Cameron was not the direct cause of wiping Indians out. And yeah, the dam will affect lives positively, but there are other ways of harnessing that power that will help people without wiping out dozens of tribes.
InsanelyxLogical 1 year ago
@linghun Also, I don't give a shit about Hollywood. Avatar wasn't even a good movie. But I do support this cause.

Deforestation Slows as Brazil Chugs Toward a Goal

OoColibriOo 1 year ago
The most traditional tribes don't have the same way of living and perception of life you can not just start to tell them to go away just like that, to move to a home or integrate in the civilized world or whatever... How would you react in their situation? It's very delicate.
OoColibriOo 1 year ago
But anybody should deserve the right to carry on living the way we want. We should also respect those who wish to change and get better social conditions. I'm talking for everyone! I post here, but I don't care about Avatar! It's just a movie! It's unreal. The situation here in Brazil is real.
OoColibriOo 1 year ago
The point is, there are many other way to make Clean energy cheaply without destroying the nature and that would suit "everybody's" need (Work etc...). Imposing something to someone is a violation of human rights.
I like Lula, I believe he's done a lot of good things for Brazil but I didn't really understand why he didn't consider other ways of generating energy. Everything has a consequence...
"But when money speaks, truth keeps silent" This monetary system is killing our world!

They all think like you, right?
writerblaster 1 year ago
Since all the people in the forest have the same opinion than yours, it's simple! Go back to the Amazon forest and tell them that the dam is a 'friendly project' that will bring progress, plenty of money and a better life, with schools, medics, and no more snakes and parasites and mud and malaria and hepatitis, and no drugs and guns! :)
But you won't do any of this, it's better to stay seated and yell and criticize. What will you do to help them? Nothing at all.
PROPAGANDA? Speak for yourself.
