that must be a decoy nest. ostrich's make decoy nest's with unfertilized eggs, they do this to keep other animals away from the real nest. its clear b/c the ostrich couple takes turns watching the nest. but at a decoy nest there is no one to be a look out.

Well, most probably, aside from it being a mongooses natural diet. There is also the fact that the ostrich is laying unfertilized eggs. If you were to allow the ostriches to have every egg fertilized, you'd (as a zoo or petting zoo) be over run with the birds! Simple logic.

i was just at the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya last Easter break!!!! got some incredible shots. and these 2 cheetahs jumped on our van (which was open top) and i was like 2 feet away from their faces. That place is very beautiful.
