It was simply a political attempt at getting peoples attention. The recent warming trend has occurred over simply 120 years. The earth has warmed and cooled since its beginning over 4 billion years ago; however these temperature climbs have been much more gradual taking place over hundreds of years in many cases thousands of years before drastic change

There is an issue about the ocean absorbing some temperature from the atmosphere, which is bad by the by, because there are temperature dependent effects in the ocean inclluding current flows and certain breeding cycles of animals. Also melting oof ice-caps which are still happening can effect ocean salinity levels which have there own dependent cycles and organisms.

There is an issue about the ocean absorbing some temperature from the atmosphere, which is bad by the by, because there are temperature dependent effects in the ocean inclluding current flows and certain breeding cycles of animals. Also melting oof ice-caps which are still happening can effect ocean salinity levels which have there own dependent cycles and organisms.

Not to mention the fact that warming during the 20th century, as man-made CO2 emissions sky-rocketed, was far greater than beforehand.
There's a reason why scientists have moved on and now focus on correctly estimating the future magnitude and distribution of warming (during the 00's the deep ocean warmed substantially)
