  • @ponti117 You're obviously an admirer of the Roman Empire. But you glorified the old Romans to the point that it clouds your reason when you said: in tech we would be 800 years ahead, if the barbarians didn't end the Roman Empire. This is simply unfounded and not true. You need to understand the inner workings of the Roman Empires society and economic infrastructure. Which you obviously didn't take into consideration. Rome and Constantinople needed to end in order for the world to progress.

  • English isn't a direct children to Latin. Direct Children to Latin are German, Spanish, French, (cant remember the other 2 because I'd just stayed up all night for an unknown reason).

  • 'Alphabet' itself is a greek word. ;)

  • 60% Latin / Greek ....the rest Saxon germanic, only a small % comes from Anglo Brittish....stupid britts. lol

  • esta muy bueno el video

  • of course also from greek as a big part of latin words have a greek origin .

anyway not only latin gave a strong influence to neolatin languages and also to english ...but all the western countries use latin aphabet ....

    a b c d e f ....etc .

  • I was in Rome It's my favorite place on the world roma caput mundi!

  • You can't compare Rome with any country that exist right now, Rome was everything and fought alone against a barbaric world.

  • @dealhit define barbaric. using slaves for sport is civilised? supressing other religions? considering themselves better then all others? massacering and destroying other civilasations?

  • @DranQNitrouS Rome is - lawyers, legionnaires, writers. Rome is the honor and glory.

United States - it's gays, drug addicts, prostitutes, and dishonor. Country dimwits and shamelessness.

Do not be silly and not compare U.S. and Rome.

United States did not do anything for that

  • @mphet26

Rome was insane and weak, especially after Nero with many documented cases of homosexuality.

And don't forget that Russia has a severe AIDS breakout too. I wonder what causes that stuff to spread other than prostitutes and unsafe/stupid/moronic/dimwitted sex practices.

  • @Remagoen Your understanding of sexual diseases is equal to your understandings of Roman history. Culturally sex in Rome didnt change during the 400 years of the Republic and the 400 years of the Emperors. They had a couple of gay Emperors, so what, we in the UK have had gay Prime Ministers (though they had to keep it quiet), it means nothing, its twisted Christian conservative morality that has fucked the simplicity and understanding of sexuality.

Take your head out of the condom.

  • @LouisPlume

Meanwhile, I encourage you to read what I was replying to.

  • @mphet26 rome, drugs, prostitues, slaves, sacrifices, cutthroat politics and civil war to often.

  • @wicNKWD37 You saw that in HBO "Rome"... that not real history... hope you understand

  • @mphet26 fuck that awfull piece of shit. my knowledge comes from bocks and documentaires.

  • @wicNKWD37 Your knowledge comes from bocks? Nice!!

  • @MikeofWyoming bocks XD mean books.

  • @wicNKWD37 Atleast Romans tried living civilized, unlike beasts living in the rest of the world at the time.

Whatever "western culture" means today, was build from remnants salvaged from Romans.

  • @OkurkaBinLadin Im sorry but China was miles ahead. well atleast the romans invented the bikini :)

  • @DranQNitrouS Americans like Ancient Romans??? you lose ur mind??

America gave the world nothing. Rome is created the entire world today.

Rome survived the wars and became the strongest of all.

    And who fought America?

America became strong only because Europe is destroying itself in the world wars and the U.S. stood aside.

And now the U.S. is facing problems and do not know what to do. And running for the savages in Iraq. to compare themselves with Rome.

  • @mphet26 I recall Japan fighting America.

  • @mphet26 america has given us alot. being a dumbfuck isnt helping.

  • @DranQNitrouS This is not correct. The general thath deposed the last emperor was a general of Roman army ( german) and the German never defeated Romans that rest in Orient territorys since 1476, when Ottomans defeated them

  • So EPIC

  • Latina Graecoqve Svpremae Lingvae Evropeae!

  • @PARABELLVM damn do I hate the fact that Latin didn't have a "U"

  • Roma Victor!!! All of those years Greeks, Babylonians, Egyptians, Assyrians, Romans, Carthaginias tryed and did discover those new technologies, but on August 24, 410 AD, some Visigoth under the command of the Alaric I Rome fell and all of this knoghledge was lost for next 1000 years, thank you barbarians for your stupidity, and hate for Rome, IDIOTS!!!!!

  • @ponti117 Are you ok?? I indicate you that the current constitution of the European countries are based on that of the Ancient Rome... And then the Roman, practised the slavery!! And without the arrival of the Germanic barbarians, we would not be there! Rome crumbled off more and more. It is for it that she(it) to stop existing in 451!

  • @Dimi10b Oh yeah, if Rome would be destroyed by those barbarians, we would more progrest right now, in tech, science, medicine, everthing, but no it had to be slowed down for at least 800 years. Do you get me, my friend?

  • @ponti117 You are right, however it would of found the new world a bit later than 1400/1300/whatever. The Roman Empire would have been like "Oh we have enough land we don't need another world", so they probably wouldn't of seen the new world, ergo no USA, no Mexico, no Brazil etc. You get the point, don't you?

P.S. You can't see Alaska from Russia quite well.

P.P.S. I LOVE the idea of a world government.

  • @trppmdm What we were talking about? That was like a year ago.

  • @trppmdm I see your point, friend. And yet, look what happened to them, killed off, died from the disease. I dont that what they wanted for them to happen, did they? :)

  • @ponti117 Youre terribly misinformed... friend

  • @3dwardcullen69 I demand an explanation my friend. :)

  • @Dimi10b Besides "the slavery" Rome made many amazing things that are still here today, and would have if not the Goth.

  • @ponti117 not 24 but 476 B.C. And he continue to guide Roman empire, thath was never the same...but never fall

  • Rome was the mother of Western culture! Without her, our culture does not exist!

  • @MrPocotopocoto yea it does wtf? it would just be different

  • not good music for this video, imperial and glorius music please

  • @kokopsyboy Not really, saxon and the germanic languages give most of the other words.

  • whats the name of this show or movie?

  • I think the correct expressions is ROMA INVICTA , severus!!

  • The Saxons brought English to England. They brought the name England. Before them it was called Brittania and the people spoke Latin. I think we should be thanking the Saxons for the language. But personally, speaking Latin sounds cooler and makes me feel smart. :)

  • English is made from parts of French, German, Spanish, Briton, Saxon, and Latin

  • @TheAwp45 and greek

  • victum, victimus!

  • YEA! ROME ftw, that show was better than any Roman movie or show, EVER.

  • rvgmuhs07 I meant what you said

  • All I have to say is... ROME VICTA!!!

  • que recuerdos la musica,,,,mitico juego.

  • bellissimo video!!complimenti!!

  • Latin Translation by me for the average roman.

    quid expectat nos?

    nubis in oras nostras cecidit.

    manus potens gladiusque romani belli

    what awaits us?

a cloud has fallen upon our shores.

the mighty hand and sword of love

just a short hand translation. =)

  • Spanish: Legiones Romanas

    Latin: nominative case: Legiones Romanae

    accusative: Legiones Romanas.

    Italian: legioni Romane.

Spanish is closer to Latin here identical even, in the accusative case.

  • The people that are descandents from romans are Romanians, italian, spanish, french and portuguese people.

they still speak latin while english and german swedish and more are german languge. cauze their ancestors spoke german languge the barabrians. case closed stop play roman englishmen you say you are as much roman as a portuguese seriosly you speak german bcoz your forfathers spoke german. and italian and french and them speak their latin languge cauze their forfather spoke latin ok stop it.

  • Not everyone in Britain originated from saxon blood either? Normans spoke french.

  • Of course but that is a minority you know french people arent that much latin themselves. They are more related to germans. Then to italians, spaniards, romanian. When I said the german speaking countries arent romans I ment that about 90 procent of the people cauze lets say your dad speaks english what do you speak? english right it is not like if your dad speak latin then you speak english right? so when people say brits germans swedes are as much romans as the latin countries in europe bullsh

  • You said in your previous post " and italian and french and them speak their latin languge cauze their forfather spoke latin ok stop it. "

  • please lets stop it ok but do you really consider yourself as much roman as a romanian for example?

  • I'm british.

  • I know that is why I'm asking... but lets forget about my point of view is that brits, germans are more from german tribes slash the barbarians and the latin countries in europe are more roman then germans and that is basicly a fact...

  • Mickecojo you r a guy plenty of knowledge. You also know about the roman influence and presence in Portugal, that is very good. I'm studying in USA this year and I met here a swedish student whom is very intelegent too. Sweedish are such a good people. I love sweeden, I read Arn Magnusson Trylogy, its amazing. An hug from Portugal my friend

  • Thank you, for your support and hug from a swede :)

I am just telling the truth.

  • @mickecojo Yup,but the real descendents from romans are in fact lazio's and etruschi's people here in italy

  • Roma victor!

  • I like the legion names, they where pretty cool.

    Ferrata (iron clad)

    Valeria Victrix (Valourous and Victorious)

    Flavia Firma (Steadfast Flavians)

    Primigenia (first born)

    Apollinaris (Apollonians)

    Adiutrix (Rescuers)

  • Glory to Rome! The legions shall once again stand guard over a united people, a people born in times of conquest and victory!

  • nice vid, loved the audio

  • Roma Victrix!

    Hic est!!

  • Thank you for typing in English, a language that would never have existed without Rome.

    Thanks for playing.

  • English mainly came from German, only a couple hundred words come from Greek and Latin.

  • Yes and no. English IS a Germanic language, but much much more than just a few hundred words came from Greek and Latin.

  • Haha, all you did was repeat what I said.

  • English isnt really a a Germanic language, its more like a trading language incorporating parts of other languages and blenderizing it up, for the making of trade easier by making communication easier. Taking a close look at English it has Latin as well as many Germanic, and a little African languages incorporated into it.

  • Of course this is true. Old English was influenced by Old Germanic languages when the Saxons invaded Britain, followed by French with the invasions of the Normans which brought the Latin roots. English has also been influenced by Scandinavian languages from the Vikings, the neighboring Gaelic tongues, and even Dutch. Technically speaking, however, English is a Germanic language, meaning it is classified into that family along with German, Dutch, the Scandinavian tongues, and others.

  • You are right. We learn the same in Hungary. (in school)

  • It's a germanic language because it was derived from a germanic language.

You are right though, it's full of stuff from other things. Only about half of it is true to it's germanic roots.

  • Yes it is, english language half latin and half saxon and briton.

  • I didnt knew that, its good that you posted it here.I always think about it why can you discribe things much quicker and better in German then in English.

  • Actually over 60% of the wors in the english language are herited from latin. So the main contributor to the enlgish language is latin.

  • @SternMann93 Yes but the romans talked Latin u smart ass :P and who brought the latin language to great britain? the romans did.

  • @thax321 err... Yeah? Why do u talk to me like I wouldn't know that, and agree 100% with ur comment. :S

  • @SternMann93 which is wrong. It is German.

  • @Pourleduc German is not an ancient language. It's about as old as english, it hasn't contributed to english. The language that was spoken by the saxons who came to Britannia is a contributor to English. 60% of the english words are based in latin. Even those words have surely evolved and got germanic/saxon influence.

  • @SternMann93 Latin's words from your message: German, ancient, language, contribuited, contributor, based, latin, envolved, influence. Oggi l'inglese moderno ha circa 80% parole d'origine grecolatina; e nel ambito cientifico 99% plus, ex.: computer, biologia, astronomia, ingegnieria, et cetera.

  • @SternMann93 All european language are based in latin and germanics... But some more fell over towards the Germanic (in the absence of citizens Latin) and the others more fell over towards the novel (a mixture of Latin and Germans) Especially for occupied territories by francs. For North of Europe it is Dutch,German,English even for Danish, suomi and Norwish but more with viking in the middle age!And on the south of europe it is French,Spanish,Portugish,Italian,Romanian and more little dialecte...

  • @Dimi10b Actually when u mention finnish(suomi), it's not part of the latin or germanic family. It's in a language family of its own called Finno-Ugric.

  • @SternMann93 Latin and greek, to be precise, as so much of latin itself derives from Greek. :3 But yes, it is the primary contributor in terms of vocabulary (structure derives from the germanic languages, however. Also, the word "the" doesn't derive from Latin, sadly.)

  • @SternMann93 Lol no. 28% of the Vocabulary in English is derived from Latin. In actuality though, only about 12% of that is regularly used as according to this; "due primarily to the effects of linguistic register, where the vast majority of Latin words in English tend to be of a scientific or technical nature, or consist of words which are rarely to never used (i.e. are functionally obsolete)." Nice try though.

  • @SternMann93 most if not all of the european languages come from latin you know...

  • @dAKarkoloAb thats true .. but it more true to say that comes from greeks

  • @SternMann93 and what did the Romans speak ....genius

  • @USARMYMEDIC85 You don't make any sense, sir.

  • @SternMann93 i was referring to your comment about latin ...sir

  • @USARMYMEDIC85 No, you didn't make any sense in your comment to me. I know that the romans spoke latin, that was the whole point of my comment.

  • @SternMann93 40 greek ;p

  • Like Brazil is any better? You bunch of AIDs spreading tranny fuckers.

  • fuck you

  • your portuguese language wouldnt have existed either cepeju if it were not for the romans. They are part of the shared heritage of all europeans.

  • Gratia plena!

    Grazie from a Roman!

    Sandro.

  • 10 stars from Greece. I respect Rome.

  • Kind of like your EU soon will be eh Pan?

  • S.P.Q.R.(Senatus populusque Romanus)

  • S.P.Q.R. (the Senate and People of Rome)

  • 2:53 is a fake roman lost at teutobourg forest they lost 3 legions ( 20 000 men!!!)

  • a legion is made up of some 4500-5500 men

so it would be more like 13.500-16.500 men

  • no, hes right. It was 3 leigons plus mercenaries. They were betrayed by another Roman Genral working with sum enemy barbarians. It was a Huge lose becaz Rome had only 13 leigons in Current day France/Germany

  • That was Varrus's legions who were lost. Not Marcus Arelius's in gladiator.

  • varinus off of rome?

  • I believe the battle depicted in Gladiator was at Vindibona, not at Teutoburg

  • It couldn't have been Teutoburg because the Germanians won at Teutoburg and sent the Romans packing. The Romans won that battle in the movie Gladiator so I would have to agree with Aelendris.

  • the last bit really spoils it, could of at least had it in English

  • rome ROME ROME ROMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!THE BEST EMPIRE EVER!!! good job great music and movie is awesome:)

  • So, probably Rome tried to conquer Persia militarily and failed every time, but this means nothing, my friends. See nowadays Iran and see Italy...even if who had had an heritage of civilization and who is til now between Middle Age and Modern Times? Don't make me laugh, please.

  • Actually later on The Roman's Conquered several territories Of "Parthia" And Was an a small influence of the Fall of the Parthia empire later on to the Sassanian and other smaller empires, And what are you talking about Italy has a strong military right now, with an Air force and Navy as well, plus right now Italy could take Iran, I dont know where you get the Idea that Iran is powerful? All you guys have is suicidal bombers and those fanatical people.

  • cual es la pelicula dl videa?

  • "Rome"

    la pelicula inglesa...

  • Mesopotamia was conquered in AD 116 by emperor Trajan on his Parthian campaign. Victory over the Parthians was so complete that the new province even included the city of Charax on the eastern shore of the Euphrates in the very south-east of the province. However, revolts in the provinces in his rear soon created serious trouble for these campaigns and forced Trajan to retreat surrendering the southern parts of Mesopotamia as early as AD 116/117.

  • Persia gassed Roman soldiers. Look it up. Wiped out and entire army within minutes. But then the amount of wins and losses between Rome and Persia are about even. But Rome had a more sophisticated and advanced society.

  • the romans tried 3 times to conqeur persia and the lost every war!!! the persian captured a roman emporer and killed him.

the roman where only great in battels against barbarin tribes.

  • are you serious open a history book.

they invaded persia more than 3 times as well

they captured ctespion 3 times of parthia and a no more of the sanasids destroying them under the great general Hercule.

read a book on the subject

  • THE NEVER PUT A FEET IN IRAN!!!

and i am talking about all the roman empire not the byzantinic.

mabey you must read some history books, the roman empire never conquered persia only palestina.

  • byzantine is roman

  • They conquered the length of the Euphrates

  • Due in large part to their employment of powerful heavy cavalry and mobile horse-archers, the Parthian Empire was the most formidable enemy of the Roman Empire in the east. Trajan had campaigned against the Parthians and briefly captured their capital, putting a puppet ruler on the throne, but the territories were abandoned.

  • A revitalised Parthian Empire renewed its assault in 161, and defeated two Roman armies. General Gaius Avidius Cassius was sent in 162 to counter the resurgent Parthia. The Parthian city of Seleucia on the Tigris was destroyed, and the Parthians made peace but were forced to cede western Mesopotamia to the Romans

  • .[108] In 197, Emperor Septimius Severus waged a brief and successful war against the Parthian Empire, during which time the Parthian capital was sacked, and the northern half of Mesopotamia was restored to Rome. Emperor Caracalla marched on Parthia in 217 from Edessa to begin a war against them, but he was assassinated while on the march.

  • [109] In 224, the Parthian Empire was crushed not by the Romans but by the rebellious Persian vassal king Ardashir, who revolted, leading to the establishment of Sassanid Empire of Persia, which replaced Parthia as Rome's major rival in the East.

  • The movie in about 1:48 is a good video :)

  • Great Video Yo!!!!

  • roma was the best economic, military power:) is so sad ,because they don't had enought power to survive:( nice video and music is so cool:D

  • It wasnt the power, it was the corruption and the fight between the people to get emperoer over the empire.

  • idenmark..the Empires falls because stop to expand when they stop the decline is starting

  • Nope

  • Rome survived till 1453

Rome fell because of emence pressure from barbarian tribes and was unable to pay them off unlike the ERE

  • They pay them...thats the wrong thing..tribute is nothing..exticion of the danger (Total war)is stable they let to many enemies in the "gates".For me the Greatest Roman General is..Gauis Mauris and far later Heraklios (the First Crusader)who become emperor

  • Don't spread untruths . Rome fell at 476 AD, The Eastern Roman Empire which wasn't consisted by latin but mostly greek population was renamed to Byzantine Empire

-(since Rome had fallen, also it wasn't even part of the empire and Roman customes and laws were rotten there was no need to keep the name)- and was the one that survived till 1453. About 200 years after the fall of Rome there was little latin trace left in Byzantium and the spoken language was simmilar to ancient Greek.

  • yea they used laws

    they called themselves roman

the center of Constantinople was the Hippodrome(witch was roman.

if you had called Basil the 2 Greek he would have put your head on a spit as he did to some diplomats who made the mistake

  • So you do know your fair share of history after all. Yes I may have exaggerated on a part or two. After Charlomagne's crown as a "Roman Emperor" about 800 AD The Byzantine empre was mainly called (at the time) empire of the greeks. Truth is that because of Christianity and rejection of everything not chirstian Byzantines never claimed any heritage from ancient Greece. That doesnt however change the fact that the main empire was stationed in greek territory and the spoken language was greek.

  • Do you know what rome is right? yes it sated out Just the City of Rome, it later claim the whole of italy as rome than the whole of europe than some of the Asia minor, it added most of the cultures into itself, you became roman with military service, you dont have to be from the city of rome nor Italian to be roman..so even though the eastern empire was mostly greek, it was still rome!

  • I won't repeat myself again. I too love ancient Roman imperialistic history, but there is no need to flatten everything just for the impressions.

I'll just clarify that the roman empire was consisted by many farraginous populations that kept their national characteristics. In the east the greeks where dominant and that is why as soon as the empire fell, maybe with a delay of a century the people of the eastern part called themselfs greeks.

  • Greek or not still the Roman Empire, just Greek majority. that was one of the major reason of the down fall of the empire's they ran out of roman men, so they started using more and more outside men and barbarian mercenaries, until they turned on Rome.

  • Thank you for coming down to my point. Foreign men, not Romans, foreign.

  • um dude, Rome has been using foreign men in its army since before 200 B.C. I dont get what you are trying to say? Rome has always been a mix of nationalities!! it was never just people from the City of Rome or Italians!! So Greeks Or Not ..They were still Rome and used and lived like Romans did and acted like romans and fought like romans!!

  • The problem was complacency and not a manpower shortage. An economy based on slavery rather than production was also a great reason why Rome fell. The problems came from within, the barbarians just mopped up what was left when Rome was ready to fall. Rome did not want to change and develope new ways of military warfare or social structure. So they had been stuck with the same systems for roughly 200-300 years. Gave the "barbarians" enough time to catch up.

  • While i do agree with you, The point about the western roman empire being both poorer and have lack of native men is true! but the end of the western empire most of the armies were made up of barbarian mercenary's, heck even the Emperor personal bodyguards were hired mercenary's on account they diodnt trust his won men, but this also led to a downfall also among many things!

  • That is true, much of the roman army was made up by foederati, barbarian mercenaries instead of trained legions. The problem for the western roman empire was that the lack of tradeopportunities in the west. They had nobody to trade with because they controlled all the western shores and lands. The Eastern Roman empire however was a gateway to the eastern lands (Asia) and also down to the south in Egypt. Truth be told- what western Rome needed was a strong leader

  • By having a strong leader such as e.g Marcus Aurelius, Julius Caesar - they could perhaps have reformed their nation enough to survive the onslaught. Sadly such a reform would have been both bloody and taken some time. The first reform would've been a social/economical as well as administrative. Rome had fallen back in developement. The second reform should've been a military one. Disband the mercenary armies and recruit/train Roman legions again. Even freed slaves were more reliable than mercs.

  • Agreed, but as I said before the Western Empire or should i say Italy's population was dwelling down, In the past they had millions but they had under a million at the time, Its hard to find Legionaries when you dont have manpower! The east empire was a big help in the west falling apart plus the last few western emperors were just puppets for the eastern emperor!

  • it was not named the byzantine empire until the 18th century

  • How could that be so, when The Byzantine (Eastern )Empire fell in 1453?

  • i know it fell in 1453

eastern Roman empire continued the tradition of Rome

  • Comment removed

  • The Eastern Roman Empire never reffered to themselves as 'Byzantines', it was a name given to them by scholars since they were centered around Constantinople, A.K.A. - Istambul, A.K.A - Byzantium.

  • nice video good music

  • don't ask again!!! the song name is in the video's info... you should learn spanish! if you don't, you can read "...Jeff Van Dyck "Forever"... rome total war", you don't need nothing else to figure out the name
