Remember that it is the fans that have put Final Fantasy where it is today.
I don´t think it´s a bad development really.
I do sure enjoy a good fantasy, but I also enjoy sci-fi. I think that a game like Final Fantasy needs both to survive. Sure, fantasy is awesome. Who doesn´t love dragons, knights and all that stuff?
But in the end, a game need technologi as well, at least in my eyes.
They get to slow otherwise, miss that important feeling...
Wow, thanks. :) I thought I would get attacked by the anime fans who barged into gaming culture when they played FF7. I don't hate anime fans (I watch some anime once in a while) but it just feels wrong seeing a guy dressed as Inuyasha at a gaming convention...I mean what the hell? It's either that or they are Final Fantasy 7 and onward characters. I see the occasional character from 1-6 though. It gives me hope.
@thedonoftrek How exactly is the current Final Fantasy games anything similar to anime? And no, weird hair, funny outfits, and magic, etc are used in ALL forms of media. If you're talking about visually that's wrong as well, since X and onward(besides the hand-helds) the character designs more closely resemble actual people or other mmorpgs, both tales of and star ocean series fit the bill far better, not to mention very few anime are in 3D. I'm gamer (mostly an rpg fan) AND an anime fan btw.
I see his point. The first 3 didn't feel like anime, the forth one had a few moments, the fifth one was like a shonen, the sixth was a magical girl story, the seventh was steampunk with a side helping of angst, the eigth was a high school adventure, the ninth was a fantasy, haven't played the tenth or twelth, but thirteen, wow, that was the 'heavy rain' of anime.
@carrot708 Any similarities they it might share don't necessarily make it an anime-ish different forms of media reuse the same themes its like saying something having comedy makes it a parody. Though you're right on some, a few can be very misleading. TvTropes explains this very well. I haven't played the last 4 non-mmorpgs though(not including sequels). 13 sounds interesting.
Oh my goodness. Thank you so much for these! Everybody else has them in MIDI format, and the computer re-does the sounds more complex and wrong, for from the soundtrack, which is also B.S. Thank you thank you!
the one with cecil is technically ff4 which i'm playing on the ds at the moment, and these songs aren't from that so i'm guessing it would be the actual ff2
The Final fantasy II we know of is actually the 4th one made in japan. The true final fantasy II is staring a man named firion and he fights the empire of his country or something (I haven't played this one yet so i'm not sure). I don't understand why japan didn't release all of them in the PAL regions.
Well, in FFII Ffirion, Maria, Guy, and Leon escape their home after Maria and Leon's parents are killed by the Palamecian Empire's army. During the escape, they are attacked by Black Knights, and owned in about 5 seconds. They wake up after being healed in Altair, only to find Leon missing. Being in the rebellion's centerpoint, they ask to join, but are told children wouldn't be of much use. After proving their power, they fight against the Emporer, in a quest to save everyone from Pandaemonium.
@ilikeluigi You could say that FF had a very awkward way of releasing their games. But then again: what other turn-based RPGs were imported by that time to the West? "Dragon Warrior" took its sweet time as well. And at that time there wasn't a lot more going around that sold well enough to get exported and translated. We already had the "Ultima" series for example ^~
Yeah. People seem to forget that RPGs were relatively underground during the NES years. Video games in general were still pretty unknown around that time. It's no surprise that a lot of solid Japanese RPGs never made it to the American market considering how much effort it would take to translate it, and risk going out of business like tons of companies did.
@Wheelio It still applies to many RPGs and other games from Japan nowadays. And while some have an international launch, some of them (Cross Edge, Agarest Senki, ...) are first Japan-exclusive until they get translated, probably because they had to wait for enough response in the west to be sure about it.
Even then it's sad how such games don't really get enough recognition aside from the JRPG fans...
I remember FF1 on the NES, I think it was the very 1st game I've ever seen or played. That Prelude will always hold a place in my heart. Oh good times.
The reason there's no boss music on the "All Sounds Of" album is because the NES version of FF1 didn't have boss music. There was only one battle theme, and it played...all...the...time.
omg i love you Keg!!! (figuritvly) i have missed these songs for soooooo long. wish i had a way to hook up my old tv and nes. i'd bust out final fantasy so fast. i have the nintendo strategy guid siting next to my bed, i still read and look at it in fond rememberance of the good old days of gaming. and yet it sadens me to remember how good it was and how bad it is now... ~sigh~

I think that Boss Battle B from later installments of II was inspired by the unreleased track. The first 8 notes are the same in both songs.
