I agree that the trombone is a marvelous instrument, but it isn't objectively better than all other instruments. It has a relatively unique timbre and a considerable range, sure. It is my personal opinion that it suits cello music well also. But don't go fangirl on me; it can't do chords, it doesn't have the voice of a string, and it doesn't have the articulation or the lightness of a woodwind. Love the soloist, but learn to love the ensemble.
@Bottledcan it can do chords. It's a technique called multiphonics you ignorant fool, and it can play just as light and crisply articulated (if not more so) than a woodwind. Try listening before you make stupid comments.

I don't know how we can choose to play the trombone. the only thing you can do is moving your arm forward and back. it's just like playing a 1 string cello, or playing the piano with one single finger.
7 positions, 8 registers. the most versatile instrument ever created. can be used in pretty much any band: wind bands, orchestras, brass bands, ensembles, as a solo instrument, jazz bands, stage bands, ska bands etc etc etc. a trombone can play lead, or as backing, and is one of the most powerful instruments availiable. This is such a typical strings section comment! since when did you ever hear a cello outside of an orchestra or string ensemble? Apocalypse doesnt count!
I don't know who you were talking to, but why are you out to prove which instrument is better? And from the context, it sounds like you were merely defending your own instrument, which is fine, but still. And to answer your question about the cello, David Baker at Indiana University. He is a jazz cellist. And you forgot that my instrument, the bass, can also be played in any form of music. So there. I think that what this man did was awesome btw.
seriously I'm not even going to argue with you lol. If you want to know what a trombone can do look up people like Joe Alessi, Christian Lindberg, and Wycliff. If you want to play with a flute or a horn, have fun with instruments that arent very verstile at all. They are great instruments, much like the cello is but they are no trombone =]

Lol , I knew that kind of comment wouldn't be liked by trombone lover.
But still, what can you do with a solo trombone? you don't even have to use your fingers. I would have pretty much more fun with a flute or a horn.
