I'm legally blind and walk/jog 12-15 miles a day on paved trail. Wondering if there are experienced PCT hikers that join up in packs or clubs that don't cost a blind eye.
@california145 haha very true i was all excited about the 250 mile tahoe to Yosemite hike I will be leaving for in a few days but then I realize ill be walking with a pack for 20 days strait lol maybe gold panning will be fun along with the adventure of the whole thing. hope its as good as the jmt
Great Video. Too bad it's not a longer documentary. Does anyone know of any documentaries or film fiction or non about the PCT? Even the AT? Please lest me know.
Does anyone know someone who may have hiked the PCT before the 1980s? We're trying to re-open access to the PCT in Alpine County. A private land owner has blocked one of the trails that connects to teh PCT and we need people to come forward and say they've hiked the land. Please help! Send me a message if you know anyone!
I wanted to do the AT in the spring, but it looks like I may be moving to the west coast in less than 6 months, so now I'm shifting my gaze from the AT to the PCT. The terrain looks tougher - desert, and more snow. Sure looks like an adventure though! I have an enormous amount of respect for thru hikers, you guys and gals inspire me to no end.
I contracted Lyme disease in Santa Rosa, CA (Sonoma County) in 2001. No longer a long distance hiker because of it. Was saving to hike PCT after having thru-hiked the AT in 2001. Was at least able to hike about 110 miles including Goat Rocks Wilderness last year. That's one of the most scenic according to thru-hikers.
I miss the trail so much. I tear up every time I watch this, especially when the music kicks in and you seen all the shots of different terrain. I gotta get the fuck outta here
Oh, I feel your pain my friend. I have just been diagnosed with a stress fracture of my left leg tibia! It's killing me not being able to run. I was running 5-6 days a week and have come to a complete stop!
It kills me when I watch these types of mini-clips on running/hiking. My legs are screaming for me to run and if I do I can permanently damage my left leg.
"Sitting is not an option" but in my case I have no choice!
Yeah? How did you go about it? What were the costs overall, for like say food, and whatever various other supplies.
Just curious; my brother-in-law were talking about it a while back and he was saying how perhaps 1k would give us all the money we needed to restock every now and again (he tells me that along the trail you can pull off and walk to like a mom and pop store that would be close enough; He's from Jersey so i know he knows that part of the trail for sure. ha
Wonderful video, this preview and the film 20 seconds of joy are my inspirations for getting out there to enjoy the outdoors! What is the really great song you used for this video? Thanks in advance!
What equipment did you use to make this? Did you use a steadycam on the trail? I took a consumer camcorder - sony trv6 - on the Bibbulmun Track in Western Australia for 3 days, and it was way too heavy, even at less than 3lbs. How did you manage to carry a camera all that way?
We did not use a Steadycam. We carried a 2 lbs Sony TRV900 in a Ziplock bag. You get very strong after about 2 weeks of hiking. We also paired down all of our other gear. Our total pack weights without food and water were below 10 lbs.
That is impressive, esp without damaging the camera. How much film did you take and how did you manage your battery power? I old imagine that it would be hard to get the batteries recharged. And did you make a film? i don't see it for sale anywhere.
I would say that after you buy your equipment, that you could hike the whole trail for about $2000-$3000, depending on how many hotels you stay in and how many milkshakes you drink. :)
well i dont think imma make it in time for 08.... is there any trails in the california area youd like to recommend so i can get ready for 09...im kinda looking for a 200+ mile hike or just anything that will get me ready for PCT
We are still happily married. I carried the ring the whole way. I asked her to marry me and we have now been together for 10 years and married for 5 years.
WOW! Now THATS inspirational. I interpreted it as she having left you because you decided to hike the trail and she gave you the ring back, then after carrying it all that way you were saying "it was worth it," lol. Thanks for straightening that out for me. lol.
teriffic!!! things like force you to go throught your dayily life slowly day by day and take in all this beautiful world has to offer. i plan on one day hiking the PCT. keep the videos comming! beautiful!

just curious, around how much money does it take to fund the whole trip and make it bearable with enough food and money to spend in mt towns.
