@johandrea92 yup, I think so too. All the characters in the book, probably with exception of fermina, are stereotypes for a reason, its not a soap opera, there is a meaning to it.
I just finished reading the novel, it's very touching, romantic, the Author is brilliant indeed, I've lived the story, every word of it, now I'm looking for the movie, I hope it's as perfect as the novel.
I don't usually watch a film that has been adapted from a favourite book but I made an exception in this case because Javier Bardem is in it but it still doesn't work. It would have been far better in Spanish with subtiltes. One of the director's comments was that that would have made it an 'art house movie'. which I think is nonsense. A couple of the actors said that it would have been better in Spanish
The plot looks good, but I think it would've been a better with everyone just talking Spanish with English subtitles. It would've been more authentic. Plus, it would've been better than the actors trying to talk English or trying to fake a Spanish accent. It would've been more natural.
i haven't seen this movie yet but javier is an amazing actor! I can't wait to see him in it. His emotions are so strong, like when he is looking through the telescope in this and he's cryinging i feel so sad. and when they see eachother again. Side note! The younger florentino really looks like a younger version of javier! Love it! Want to see it sooo bad!
Can someone tell me what the theme at the very beginning is? It's driving me crazy. Not the Tori Amos song, the very first music... a clarinet or oboe playing the melody.
Yes, the theme from Angels in America by Thomas Newman. I believe that this piece of music was only used for the trailer, though. I don't remember hearing it in the movie.

the name of the song at 1:10 i think is by Shakira - La Despedida. the beginning of the song sounds identitical to the part 1:10 of the movie... hope it helps :)

I was very much looking forward to this film... But listening to Patrick Doyle's music from the amazingly fantastic "Great Expectations" by Alfonso Cuarón ruined the trailer for me... I didn't even see Patrick in the credits.. Totally unnecessary to use music from a previous film when there are so many classical pieces not associated with other films.
I'm still watching it, but it ruined the trailer for me... :(
The song is "Kissing in the Rain" by Patrick Doyle. Performed by Miriam Stockley. From the original score of Alfonso Cuaron's film "Great Expectations"

I really wanted this movie to not suck, for love of Marquez and Bardem. But I'm still reading the book first and seeing the movie second.

Looks like someone ate the book, crapped it out the back of them and tried to make a movie out of it.
