  • Thanks for the nice comment. Actually, I am Brazilian and I did this many years ago. Probably more than the 4 years it says here. Strange!... Well, my husband who is a English speaker helped me with some ideas. Yes, I agree, translations not always match the message of the composer. There is a difference between a translation and a version. The last try to adapt the words to the tempo and rhyme. :-)

  • these translations are fantastic, I speak fluent Portuguese, you did what every good translator does and you arranged the context syntactically around the subject to make sense. a translation isn't suppose to be word-for-word, because one has to try to get the most accurate original meaning across. fantastic upload and song by the way!

  • Well the subs are diferent in the meaning... These worlds sounds like poem in portuguese, but in english don't. The same thing happens when you try to translate the song "Seguindo Estrelas"( watch?v=l7QH7KbGFqQ ). This song is meaningfull but in english it seems to lose part of it and become a bit weird... That why people are talking about the subs...

    But it's still a great song... =]

  • Pretty good song, recommended to me by some friendly Brazilians in Tokyo

  • fucken RIGHT! dude! I was so into the Frank Sinatra version....damn

just blown away...I loved the solos with the guitar and piano. wow....im going to sing this song word for word before the end of the summer.

    Original version is always BEST!

    GO BRAsil!

  • EPIC!

  • the actual girl from impanima was on americas next top model...the episode when they got to Brazil

  • she was not. think a little please this girl was from 1962.

  • i was thinking, it was the actual girl from ipanema, she was one of the gust judges, if u woulda done some looking u woulda found that she was on top model, as a judge

  • good song......nice melody and lyrics too

  • Uma coisa que sempre achei intraduzível é "descer/subir o morro".... risos

Um abraço de uma outra expatriada!!

  • Melody of my Life!!!

  • I'm brazilian, the translations are great. It's great to know foreigner enjoy brazilian music (even though it's hard to find good bossa-nova musicians now).

And it's rude to say your subs are not good, since you don't need it, they do.

  • The translation looks perfect for me, but then again Im a spanish speaker who has only taken portuguese for some months.

  • The subtitles are the translation of the message of the author using the English "way to speak". It is not the version to be sang along. Tom Jobim did and registered his own English version that Frank Synatra sings (Tall and tan and young and lovely = Alta e bronzeada e jovem e adorável), these Portuguese words are not in the original song. The original words are "Olha que coisa mais linda = Look, how beautifull thing". Got it? :-)

  • nah guys...sorry but the subtitules are not very true

  • hmm kk..

anyway i was drunk when i first posted here...

  • bad translations =/

  • Really? May you show us your version? Maybe you have a lot to improve on my Brazilian Portuguese or my husband´s New Zealand English. That would alleviate your burns. Poor man...

  • im a fuckin brazilian... gosh.. =p

  • every style has its own place aswell as its own champions of grace. 5 stars imo

  • I am a Brazilian and i live near Rio de Janeiro, 1stab you used to say that portuguese looks like italian, in my opinion it looks more like spanish, i have trouble to learn spanish because of this

sorry about my bad english, i'm still learning

    .

  • this is a great song...

    excelente!

  • more than everything i wish that one day i could walk on the white sands of ipanema listening this song at the same time, i love this song so much

  • yeah, u sure would be stolen when u do it =p

  • I hadn't realized until now how perfect Portuguese is for singing; Italian seems to take a back seat. This singer lulls the audience with his quiet "shushes" and sympathetic "s's." It is as if any edge on the language has been rounded and polished. Coupled w/the melody you have complete beauty.

  • I agree the beauty& exquisite sounds but also its eloquence that only Portuguese can express. I sense its beauty is from a mixture of unique cultural influences that form such distinct layers of sounds & meanings &musical influences(& pronunciations of the language with in Brazil itself). Along with its breath- taking geography. I can only hope to learn moreof this beautiful language to gain even more from country's amazing amazing music from such beautiful people who live there

  • excelente

  • im in love of this its so beautiful i love how he sings it and i love the song

  • So wonderful...this is the world I live in...absolutely perfect.

Thank you! for sharing this beautiful performance.

  • demasiado buen video..

nada como un poco de bossanova para empezar la mañana!!

    really good video..

nothing better than bossanova to start a day!!

  • the second stranger song more played in USA.

  • Bossa Nova par excellence - as a guitar player/singer this was one of the songs of my youth I wanted to learn - when I did I was over the Moon -everyone loves this one- and this was the Man? Fantastico!! Thankx mmtrh!

  • Also I hope that HIS pieces of music last forever and that the world sees the passion within the song.

  • May Tom have a joyous time in Heaven. He deserves to be happy for what he has done in this world. I also agree with you ReikoG,he does look so happy performing with Joao.I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT WHEN TOM JOBIM looks so joyous!

  • Wonderful! Tom looks so happy peforming with Joao.

  • Is the translator related to Joe Raposo?

  • No, don't know this person. :-)

  • Great! Tom jobim playing Piano

Original Composer of The Girl From Ipanema ....

  • I love you Jobim.. Thanks for posting the video!

  • Come puoi commentare due grandi è impossibile...ascoltare in silenzio e basta.

  • Sometimes a music changes when translated into another language to adapt to the tempo and rhyme.

  • Sarcasm. How do you say that in Portuguese?

  • Sarcasm is "sarcasmo" in Portuguese. But that is not the taste in my reply. Neither in your comment. Am I right or wrong? Thanks for the comment.

  • Yes, with the "o" in the end. :-)

  • ^^ haha you think

  • Do I? How? Am I right or wrong? Verdade? Como? Estou certa ou errada? (sorrindo - smiling)

  • this guy knows how to perform this song...
