About your choice of song, I think it sounds a bit "optimistic" for 40k, if you know what I'm getting at, but I totaly get why you chose it. So many of the words in the text ring true for Space Marines, it IS a great choice even though I think it lacks some of the atmosphere.
Note, this is not a complaint, just felt like mentioning it. It's a good song, too. Thumbs up and such.

@dayofthenids Reinforcements can always be aquired. Human or non-human, making truces and alliances with the enemies of man are always necessary when a larger threat emerges. Just because we really hate eachother doesnt it mean we can work together. There are already examples to take a look at, so dont think its not possible.

When you told me to read the tyranid codex, i found a part that said the imperium of man and the tau empire united with eachother to fight of one of the hive fleets. And were not animals, we are self-aware living beings, unlike the tyranids who are to blind to realize they will never win. The eldar are not fools, neither are chaos and the orks can be fooled to form an alliance with the imperium.

We are dealing with ficticious works, for them to have relevance we must instill within them value of 'real' works.
the words; battle brother, emperor, space marines and related assosiations are dealt with as if their world were ours.
You seem to forget this Yodainacan and mistake that 'we' whom appreciate 40k belive 40k is real.
The 40k universe is grim and a time of war - hence we enact as if such were the case, It is not true to assume that we belive 'our' world is the same, or even is 40k

You tell us Doctors, Scientists, artists and soldiers are your 'battle brothers' -you've just decontextualized the meaning of battle brother in relation to its use in 40k.
We are talking of spacemarines here, and in such a world as theirs, doctors scientists scholars and the like could NOT survive to be your heroes where it not for the men and women whom give their lives in the never ending battles across THEIR universe.

@KMcombine As I grow older and out of the hobby, I see more and more how WH40K shows all that which is horrible and wrong in mankind, all the cruelty and stupidity, all the wars fought for nothing more than pride and fear. As I grow older still, I see how real people hate and fear other real people for the same reasons as in WH40K, with the same rhetoric, the same actions. Only difference is, there is no Tzeentch or Slaanesh or Emperor, just our own fears, our own ignorance, our own pride.

@Yodainacan WH40K is like a test that allows us to see ourselves. Everyone wants to be a Space Marine. Those who are adults realize life is not like that, and should not be like that. Pure fanatical faith drives people to do horrible things. Blind loyalty prevents people from questioning their motives. Real adults understand this, but many grow old without growing up. Many people here play a game. But some really do see righteousness in the Marines.

Comparing america to, for example to some of the Italian merchant republics of the middle ages, we can see that there is very little difference in the end, except in technology and use of violence in the justice system. In the end, peoples attitudes have changed very little.

Eldar = scientific superiority taken too far, being blinded by predictions of the future, acting on mechanistic view of the world and forgetting the meaning of own actions. Present day.
Tau = a mixture of communist China and USA, a view of what happens when patriotism, duty and bravery cease to be personal choice and become something demanded by the culture.

@Yodainacan The Tyranids and the Necrons are mostly pure fiction. The Dark Eldar are criminals, gangs, organized crime. Drugs, looting, destruction of property and violence just for fun. Even slavery exists today. Even in USA and Europe. Infact they represent better the modern system of crime, not the medieval european.
The inquisition is historically medieval, but also the modern human belief that any means may be used to defend a cause important enough. Thats both terrorism and the CIA.

I don't honestly belive its a test at all, nor that GW would have such conspiracies behind its motives, other than a cool game and what the buyers/players want.
When it comes to Ideologies, its clear that yours is different to mine. I see the good of the SM, I see them as heroes of the weak, a fraternety of love and companionship.

@Yodainacan You can choose only to follow others, Emperor or Chaos. You can choose your allegiance, your battle banner and your colours and stick with the group out of fraternity, whether good comes out of it, or bad.
Or you can seek out the good in the world. You may have to first let go of what is wrong in order to find what is right. It may seem scary at first, but its the freedom of choice, the many options. But I promise you, its worth it, and quite wonderful.

About your choice of song, I think it sounds a bit "optimistic" for 40k, if you know what I'm getting at, but I totaly get why you chose it. So many of the words in the text ring true for Space Marines, it IS a great choice even though I think it lacks some of the atmosphere.
Note, this is not a complaint, just felt like mentioning it. It's a good song, too. Thumbs up and such.
