  • Alright the beginning is silly! They say that those companies control the media? Have you ever heard of Google, Youtube, and Facebook? Those companies have a much bigger hand in the media now!

  • mike eisner is a big problem and so is murdoch and turner and anshutz and gates...be gone with them.

  • I MAN OWNS ALL OF THAT!

  • I support the writers. I have been speaking out against "giant corporations" for 3 years now for their unethical practices.

  • I support the writers!!!

  • interesting vid, shame theres not so much debating of the actual topic up here.

i support the writers guild, mainly because i look to writing as a potential career; i would like to be paid as fairly as you should. and if corporations are to be ripping writers off in the future... the future of writing, and as a result, entertainment in general, isnt looking that great. good luck with the strike

  • did somebody just say Enron?

  • no i think they nervously sneezed it

  • Nick Counter & the group of producers continue to lie, as they did to Canadian Unions to gut people while they reap the rewards...so keep fighting for your rights WGA, then comes SAG and the DGA...we need to make sure fair is faIR...is sharing profits from our contributions to product making

  • BAM! Man these corporations had it coming tho. Partly thanks to them these guys have all the A/V making experience, writing talent and now a very efficient distribution source. I'm kinda disappointed with the number of views on this one though.

  • The big comglomerates have been eating our economy for years. Fight 'em WGA.

  • Big Media=PWN'd

  • wait? there's a strike going on? does anyone else know about this?

  • Not everyone lives in California or NYC?.. TV. Writers should have gone on strike years ago when the networks started forcing them to write plotlines for crappy sit-coms. I think the writers, producers, and actors should give the bird to the networks and start making and marketing their own online content. I'm betting it would be 8^100 x better than the junk that the networks and cable channels spew. I'm betting it'd be lower overhead as well.

  • Good and simple explanation. Corporations can't have it both ways.

  • Hey Pecker,

Could you explain what, exactly, is "BS" in this video? It's all direct quotes from studio executives and corporate reports. You know what I think is BS? Trolls like you. Enjoy your lunch hour, paid vacation and health insurance (if you still get it) - They didn't exist until unions fought for them.

  • What proof is there that the WGA is bending the truth?? You seemed to avoid tuberreg's question... so maybe you could clarify so we can ALL know the truth since you seem pretty sure of yourself....

  • My god you're an idiot. Do you know what it's like to not be sure you're going to have a job next month...every month? Do you know what it's like to try to do your job and not have any health insurance, retirement opportunities, even assurance that you'll be paid at all? That's the life of a writer or even an actor.

  • (CONTINUED)Without their unions making sure they get residuals and pay that takes these things into consideration, there could be months that their families don't eat. Without the unions, good luck obtaining the benefits that an investment banker, accountant, sales rep, or hell..even senior manager of Barnes and Noble get.

  • (Continue)

Sure the Tom Cruises and Larry David's of the world may be able to do okay for a long period of time should they live moderately. But what about the Colonel Doctors (Scrubs), The smiley doorman, the ex-interns picking up a pen for the first time as they exit college. Sure they may be big one day, but if they have to do a million other jobs to just be certain that rent can be paid...their rise will be a whole world more difficult. They aren't just fighting for the big names.

  • ....

  • (continue)These guys are going to go into another contract and if they don't secure being paid for this new media then what happens should TV and streaming internet merge...or TV goes by the wayside all together? They would sign themselves into a void where they do work that they don't get a dime from until the DVD.

  • (continue)

Quit being selfish and use your head. I'm sorry your TV shows will be halted, but when it comes to choosing between being closer to certain that they'll be able to put food in their kids' mouthes and making sure they're there to hold your hand as you're forced to choose between a rerun of bonanza, a new reality show, or actually picking up a book...I think their choice is a bit more clear.

  • Also, I don't give a shit about my favorite TV shows. What I do care about is the fact that these Douche bags(you guys WGA) are putting at risk at other peoples work (Not just actors and director .Key grips, make-up people, even the people that make the lunches for the studio, and the people that clean the toilets) What about them? dont they also have families to feed to?? Oh, but i forgot, they're not famous for doing their jobs so you don't care.

  • Actually, the same issues effect the tech crews. The writer's strike is an issue NOW because their contracts all just expired on November first, and the writers deserve to not get stiffed when the new one comes out. The simple fact is, the anyone should get paid fairly for what they create. The writers are just asking for 2.5 cents for every dollar made off of digital media. How this ends determines what the techies and actors will get paid in June and July, when THEIR contracts end.

  • No, it does not affect Tech crew. Right now, they have to work in like short film right now for so little money because of the writers. And don't think that for a second that i'm siding with the studios on this because they're being douche bags as well.

  • Seriously? 55% of the techies' health insurance is paid off of the revenues that the Writers are fighting for. And how negotiations for this contract go sets up the stage for how negotiations will go come the end of the Director and Tech contracts. This issue affects the entire industry.

  • "I don't give a shit about my favorite TV shows."

You're so dumb, a retarded person laughs at you.

  • You wanna know what think is dumb??? The fact that you morons can't come up with better tactics than "Oh, your just mad because your favorite TV show is over", Bull Shit. Yes, i might be a little upset, but that doesn't change the fact that the WGA and morons[like you] who supports them because you guys enjoy eating the shit they're throwing at you are acting like a bunch of douche bags. Open your eyes a bit more, assclown.

  • OH, BULLSHIT. Quit talking out of your ASS, and do your research. PLEASE. Those thousands of dollars that they get for each script they make doesn't cover that at all? Also, WTF if the WGA for??? Its a Union for crying out loud. GOD, somebody needs to hit you in the head, or, probably your a writer, and your coveredby the WGA.

  • No, I'm not a member of the WGA, and I have done my research. I AM however a voice over artist struggling to make ends meet. As someone non-union, shockingly enough I don't HAVE to be paid. I always have been, but it's enough for me to maybe pay half a months rent. I have no promise I'm going to get work every month. Some months I get several jobs, some months I don't get anything.

  • Sometimes I'll go three months without a job opening up. I'm struggling working full time as an assistant manager at a video store so I'm sure I can have enough cash to pay my bills and even then it's just enough to get by. I'm working hard to get to a point where I can actually join a union and be able to make enough so that I can do this as my only job, but when you work 40-50 hours a week, it's not exactly easy.

  • So yeah, if I finally made it and I felt threatened that the major source of my revenue had the risk of dwindling down to nothing during my contract period, I'd probably freak out a little bit and fight to be able to secure a way to make money off of the budding technology before things went completely sour.

  • Thousands of dollars seems like a lot, and when you're lucky enough to get that kind of work on a regular basis, it IS a lot. However living in an area with a high cost of living and not being lucky enough to gain a job regularly thousands of dollars can quickly become nothing.

And celebrities? I probably couldn't even name five media writers off the top of my head.

  • [continue] Tell me WFT are they spending it on??? Whatever it is that they're it on MUST be REALLY EXPENSIVE. That why they're other place to live on. Not just places like Hollywood, or Beverly Hills. They're other place too. If some of them aren't getting jobs then they should know better in what they getting themselves into.

  • [continue] and as for writers being famous, i can name you like so manhy of them. You just Even actors are writers as wel [ala Zach Braff, Tina Fey & others]. SO you basically don't know shit, and should do your research more often.

  • Why should a person quit a job they like doing? The WGA just want a fair deal.

  • Fair Deal?? you seriously don't know anything thaats going on do you??? The only thing that you know that your good at is sucking shit through a straw. That's the only thing your good at. And as for why they should quit their jobs??? Well, i'd tell you but your a closed minded son of a bitch that won't see things other way. NO, you like eating shit from what you & what they tell you to do.

  • (@ Pecker) I'm going to analyze your statement, for you. First off, you need to learn how to use Punctuation and to only hit the '?' key, once. You said The only thing you're good at, twice, and spelled wrong twice. Again you can't figure out how to let go of the '?' key... Then you insult him (You're being defensive, already). And defensiveness, is a sign of weakness.

  • Oh, im sorry. Since when has the comment board ever become into an english class?(happy now) You guys have nothing else to debate about anymore so now you douche bags are attacking my puntuation. How sad. So i guess i won my statement huh?

  • The only thing I can draw from your statements is that you have a severe, untreated form of Tourettes.

  • Lmao, Nice, anyway, Pecker there is no reason in debating with an idiot. As they will result by calling us "douche bags" as a sign of Defensiveness, which is a sign of weakness. It means you are upset, and cannot debate rationally. Therefore, I'll point them out for you (As I did, in the last comment).

  • That's absolutely not true at all, I've called you an idiot After you called me a douche. You've called me a douche before anything else which proves you're angry, therefore you cannot debate rationally.

  • You never, EVER pointed out you were calling the writer's douche bags, but instead generally said something resembling "You all are douche bags". In which, I assumed you were calling me and numerous other WGA Strike supporters, douche bags. And, No, I rarely have typo's and people rarely use 1, 2, or even your usual 3 question marks.

  • Wow, It's been awhile *Rolls up sleeves*, but dude, you have no argument, so you start bringing up how I point out you have bad grammer, because you do I'm just making an observation, but you're getting upset because you just absolutely know you're wrong.

  • No, it's not that. I just realized something..."Why am i gonna bother with you Douche Bags when you guys come up with excuses one after another?". To top it all off, you guys can't even bother come up with a good explanation, so you have to attack my grammar, and spelling which makes no sense (especially on the internet). See, this shows that i'm right, and you morons are wrong.

  • By the way, i was the last one to write back, and yes, i did call you a names as of now but that because you just asked for it. I was gonna leave all this alone, since you guys have no arguement except my typo, but i guess this calls for world war 2.

  • Lmao, You denied it before and since you're wrong you act all snoody "Oh, You just asked for it." And what do you mean no good points? You're the ass wipe who can't say something decent, What is your point? You said like 2 things, I disproved them, insulted your grammar, and then you act like all I said was that your grammar was bad, You're just pathetic :/

  • Great video!! I've gone and emailed the studios, and will continue to do so. Does anybody have the emails directly to the executives? Post them if you do. Get the word out. I want the writers to get what they deserve and watch my shows again!!

  • Perhaps in your opinion caring about this cause is a waste of time... maybe people who enjoy watching the shows that these writers create are wasting their time.... but personally I don't think that is your right to judge. If you care so much about causes such as Darfur why don't you go watch their videos and post comments there and stop "wasting your time" trying to insult other people's interests and opinions.

  • I've heard strident voices on both sides, but

this is an argument I can get behind.

  • Good frickin' question.

  • Can everyone on youtube please favourite this and spread the word. This is an excellent explanation of freedom of voice, choice and how our media will be manipulated in the future.

    Thanks guys

  • Those two faced liars. It's disgusting. This video makes a great point.

  • How stupid are these CEOs? Can they spell SEC fraud?

  • brilliant

  • GO WGA! Call the Feds and open the books!

  • Karl Marx was right- what we have here is the perfect example of Marx's base and superstructure.

  • Marx was a horrible writer. He'd never survive in holleywood.

  • Why would anyone be surprised about this? Big business has always been about making themselves richer off the backs of the common man. I wish I actually owned stock in one of these company's so I would have the right to call them on it. The rich get rich and the poor get poorer. You can thank Ronald Reagan for this, when he hired scabs to take over the jobs of the air line control jobs. Without union representation, we will always be a nation of lords and serfs.

  • PS There's a toll-free number for CBS Investor Relations: 877-227-0787. Perhaps it should be bombarded with calls.

  • I just called CBS Corp. and said that I was worried about my investment in CBS stock if they did not know how to make money online. The operator assured me: "We do make money online." Come again, Les Moonves?!

  • Very enlightening. I will continue to support you guys.

  • Truth or lie?

  • this is all true...

  • Well, we can't play "To Tell The Truth" for real anyway...

  • Every shareholder of these media companies should see this. Shareholders that support the writers should contact these companies and go to their shareholder meetings!!
