Sorry to hear about it... I'm sure you would be able to transfer data onto your PS3, it has sections for video and photo's... plus a few of my friends used a portable hard drive on a 360 and it worked alright... although it wan't compatible with some file formats xD

Also, unless you have enough usb memory and route all of the ram activity to it, it will slow your computer down no matter how old it is. This is because it has to swap between the north and south bridge each time you switch between an application that is running on system memory and a system running on the virtual memory.

Just to let you know, flash memory is not a great idea for random access. Flash memory has a limited number of F-cycles (it wears out after many write cycles, around a few 100,000s), so using a flash drive (or even SSDs for that matter) as VRAM can wear it out. In some situations, a block of RAM can be used hundreds of times in one day, if the PC is used a lot. This is a cool video though.
