What do you advocate as the alternative? What I mean is are you anarchists in principle? What do you envision taking the place of the current structure of society?
@TheTubePortal To be honest, it doesn't matter what replaces the state. What matters is that the state is immoral by nature. How would we get cotton if there are no slaves to pick it? The question doesn't matter because slavery is immoral.
@ThinkTwiceNews I agree with you and with most of your points, it's just that I personally can't envision what would take its place. It seems like complete anarchy, which has some good points, but also some bad. Have you ever thought about that sort of thing? I mean what would it be that takes the place of the state as it currently exists. Another state? Reformed state? No state?
@TheTubePortal I totally understand. I would say replace the state with nothing, as I have concluded that market anarchy is probably what would come out of it all. And as for envisioning alternatives, I mean, frankly you can't. No one envisioned fossil fuel powered combines when they were debating whether slavery was alright. You can't predict innovation. So I generally refuse to answer the question of "Who is going to take care of the roads." beyond "Whoever wants to use or own roads."
@TheTubePortal Any good or service provided by the state can be provided more efficiently and at a higher quality by individuals/firms in a free market. This includes justice and dispute resolutions services that government currently monopolizes. Humans exist in a state of "anarchy" every day. There is no government official following you around on a daily basis, making your decisions for you. This is because humans are programmed to make decisions which are in their own self-interest...
@KnottheGun ...It just so happens that it is in the best interest of most people to coexist and interact peacefully. Humans are social creatures and may only reach their potential through free market interactions, resulting in specialization and the division of labor. Government stands in direct opposition to this natural harmony and is responsible for most of the societal ills we face. Ergo, abolish government and the structure of society remains intact, improving rapidly as people adjust to...
He left out the biggest selling point: you get a song and a flag, and a special oath that goes along with the flag. Even Libertarians will sign up for that part.
