Daniel was beaten by the man in his first adopted family and emotionally and physically abused by the second..... So the adoptive mother wonders why he's not so optimistic about his life? She chooses her husband first and simply doesn't care enough to help him - both people were unfit to be parents if you ask me.

Yeah if I was at that picnic and I heard that mother talking like that, I would want to haul off and slap her hard. She says that Maureen was naive and had no idea -- It's the other way around. She is stupid and unfit as a mother. The father is NO better. If only Brian had been able to verbalize what he had been feeling about his parents and what they did to Daniel, then the boys could have been removed to a much safer environment
