I read Kobo Abe's novel a few years ago and really dug it. I fantasized making it into a movie, but actually I just ended up wondering what it would be like to become an actual Box Man and move to their exclusive little town . . . this is a great short movie. Thanks for creating it and sharing it!
Awesome!! I'm reading the book right now for a class and it is so powerful and amazing, but sometimes it is very hard to put a picture to it.. your video just helped me make a more solid idea of the story, thank you! :)
I saw this once, years ago. I was studying biochem today and for some reason thought of it, out of the blue. I looked for the video for half an hour, and finally found it. Amazing stuff, glad it's still around for viewing!
Amazing film. For me, it really made me think about humanity and the impact we all have on each other. Other people have different interpretations, and I think that's what makes this film unique. It is a great wake up call from the many mindless videos you usually stumble across on here. Thanks :D
"The story Abe tells in The Box Man is the story of the contradictions of his times, high-economic growth, amidst the lingering effects of the dual structure, emerging quality of life issues, made more poignant by the questioning of capitalism itself. Finally, it relates the complex relationship the state had with the poor. Abe through the box metaphor is able to dwell on all these issues"
There is a small practical light soldered onto wire threaded through tubes and pipes. The light casing is made of pro-poxy on the top, molded around a piece of one of those plastic capsules from a vending machine that I broke off and painted yellow/orangeish. I put a fog filter on the camera lens to make the light glow a little.
it makes alot of sense now that i figured it out it means he was in the box and he shot himself so he will die in the box and he ran after himself to find only himself and that frightened him so he was scared by the real fear, fear itself and the real fear IS yourself so he became what he didnt want to become so he wouldnt be fear but someone else would so they would do the same thing over again and every one will die with that concept of eating themselves alive with their own real fear. harsh.
Interesting concept, seems to sort of hint at some dark recesses of what humanity is like. I won't go into it, but suffice it to say that its a very interesting film.
strage so he shot the box to chase the guy in it away and than stole it so he can sit inside the box? anyway nice made movie a little dark but greatly made 5
rly nice animation, i love the deep in this story. i was just waiting for a finger to come off when he put 'em in the box ^^ would love to see more from you :)
In the book, the box man is the guy who shoots the dude living in the box. Or both of them are the box man. He kills the guy because of his uncontrollable attraction to the box. It represents comfort, order, and isolation.
Amazing! I saw this a couple years back on atomfilms, but I just remembered it again recently. I'm surprised that more people haven't watched this! It should've gotten a million hits by now!
if you dont know what the sandman is, please look for it right now. great short film. but all spam aside... this was wonderfully done, please continue bringing us more pieces of art like this.
My mind went into motion after watching this. Almost all the time YouTube videos make me feel dull. This felt like an opening up inside my head. Heavy though, lots to digest.
but smosh did better box man videos...
