I went to see Dan Radcliffe last May, and that was an incredible experience.
However, Dan had immense success before that. Before Glee, I knew that Darren would be successful, and to see him doing so well in all these projects and stuff makes me so proud. It's like seeing a good friend you knew in school doing well in life because you know they deserve it.

The thing is that the character J. Pierpont Finch is a goofy, weird and very clueless. I thought that Dan portrayed perfectly. now my issue is not that Darren is a bad actor but that he is to suave for the role. Dan is a smooth guy if you had to describe him in one word it wouldn't be weird, nor goofy nor clueless. He doesn't naturally fit it the description. I love Dan and Darren but Dan is more of that goofy awkward guy. If you saw the movie Robert Morse he was perfect, as awkward as can be.

I dreamed myself, of becoming a actress, and I started out in school musicals. And did numerous dance recitals. At the age of 5.

@katiroxursox Well he had two weeks, that is what everyone has when they are taking over for a role on Broadway. That is what Jonas had, that is what Stamos had when he took over after Broderick, it is standard for Broadway. And he knew he was going to be doing the show back last summer, so he had the time with the music and libretto to study on his own. So being out of tune, not having Broadway strength behind his voice, dropping lines, having blocking problems can't be excused.
@sinatrabooth89 I agree that the audio of this video makes his voice sound weak but I don't think that's what it sounded like live. Also the audio made his voice sound a little flat from catching vibrato. Even the chorus sounds weak in this video.
Any one saying Darren is horrible....your dumb because he is amazing...I would like to see yourun around and dance and sing and see how you sound....plus the critics don't agree with you...they LOVED him...and so do I:)
I was a Gleek first discovered Darren there, and because him i started to get into Starkid and now i am a huge starkid fan as well... I think some people think that if you discovered Darren through Glee, you can't be a starkid fan.... thats not the case (:
Guys, i know its great and fun to say "I knew Darren when..." and as a fellow starkid, i totally get it! But does it really matter? I mean if you love Darren Criss, then you love Darren Criss! My best friend isn't a starkid, but she loves him from Glee. And that just means more D-Criss fans and more potential starkids!!

Guys, seriously, you can´t compare Dan´s and Darren´s version when Dan´s si studio version and this is stage version, when you have to dance other stuff... :D Dan is great, he really showed that he is not just "that guy that plays Harry Potter", but Darren is Darren, he is extremely talented and he had only a little bit of time for preparing his role and I think he´s incredible! :)

Considering he had only two weeks of rehearsal, while the majority of Broadway actors have months, I think he did a good job. I bet if he'd had a bit more time to prepare, nobody would be saying he "doesn't have the pipes"...or maybe they would. Haters gonna hate.
@125Dave8 I hear you big time, he was on a tight schedule, but so are many Broadway replacements. I don't think any amount of preparation changes the fact that he doesn't have a powerful enough voice to fill a 1500 seat theater.
@LittleAnnieH well that's good to hear. I really do love Darren Criss. I had tickets to this show during his run and when I heard this recording I worried that his voice would not fill the theatre. Unfortunately, my fear was confirmed when he displayed a thin, feathery voice. But that can be due to allow of factors, maybe he improved, and maybe he didn't have enough time.
Everyone, has to understand that Darren Criss comes from a theater background. Before he got his start in hollywood with television shows, he was trained at a theater company in Michigan.
I like his voice a lot. But judging by listening to this recording and listening to a Daniel Radcliffe recording (I never saw the show live, unfortunately), I actually like Daniel's voice in this better. Not saying that Darren isn't good (because he is!), I just think that Daniel's voice fit the role a bit better, you know?

So, when I went to see Darren in this show it was such an adventure. I scared Jane Lynch (By accident!!!), sat next to my friend who i didnt know who was going tot he same show, and got Darren's autograph. Best night of my life!
I'm proud to say that I sat up and waited for the "A very Potter Musical/Sequel" came out live on youtube. I'm proud to say I knew of this awesome, talented guy before he got big. Thumbs up if ur one of the few who followed Darren rise to fame.

I wonder what night this is from. I saw him on 1/8 and he sounded much, much better. His voice was stronger and had more of a Broadway quality to it. He danced well and sang well. He didn't sound winded and weak. I wonder if this version is from opening night.
Say what you want, Darren is SUPERMEGAFOXYAWESOMEHOT in this and in everything he does, and the fact that all of the reviews for his performance were really positive, says more to me about how good he really was, than the comments on this page ever could. Besides I have heard that I Believe In You is his real shining moment. I would love for him to do more Broadway in the future, I would especially love to see him do West Side Story, he has already proven that he would make the perfect Tony!

@gingachick14 its because he's not using an MT voice he's using a pop style voice that he uses on glee, and its not in the style of the musical and it doesnt have any support.
Darren and Daniel are two different people, with different talents, who may do similar things, but you shouldn't compare them.
Darren is brilliant in H2$ even though he only had 2 weeks rehearsal, and he's not exactly trained to be a Broadway singer, while Dan had a lot of training for the role.
@EbzzOutLoudX Darren has been singing and dancing much longer, and of course he had his score and book months ago. So saying he only had 2 weeks of rehearsal, and not trained is missing the point. Frankly, I found him to be the worst leading man I have ever seen on Broadway. And trust me I have seen dozens of productions on Broadway alone. He does not belong on Broadway, and clearly does not have a bright future there.
I'd like to add that I have lots of friends that have seen him perform this several times. They said that the 5th performance was a lot better than the opening night performance. Also, i saw a video of last night's show. The singing was greatly improved over this video and the dancing was wonderful. Go Darren!

Darren usually sings better than this, I feel like he's holding back a bit??? Could it be nerves? I agree that he may not be suited to this particular role, but hey: You never know until you try. I have full respect and faith in him, and know that he is a talented guy.

guys if you haven't seen this visually you don't remotely understand how great he actually was! I have never seen him dance like that, like seriously he stuck out from the rest of the company on dance he was wonderful on this the number seriously was incredibly
I feel like this recording doesn't do his voice justice at all! Knowing that he was never a trained singer, I went into the show prepared to hear some off-key pitches and a thin voice, but that was not the case. He owned this song-vocals, dancing, emotion and all! I think it's impossible to get a great recording from a simple point-and-shoot camera, if that is what this was recorded on.
I do like Dan's Finch better, but still I know how hard Darren is working, and this is his first Broadway show and he only had a two week rehearsal process so I can understand that he would be a little nervous and weak. He has said himself in interviews that he doesn't have any actual musical theatre training, so this is really a first for professional plays. Though I like Dan's Finch better, I still feel really proud of how far Darren has gotten himself and that he has his dreams coming true
I guess we can only make our judgment when we have the actual dance as well... making a judgment NOW is a bit too soon. And this version is, well, an illegal version. And the Dan Rad ones you see on YouTube are pretty official so they have better audio.
@joannako127 Dan did a really good job though. He hit all the notes while also holding an American accent. He's not primarily a singer or dancer and he did both.
It's not about voices performance, or dance performance (they are both great singers and dancers)
But, for me, the problem it's how Darren "plays" Finch, actually, it's like he's here to sing (very well) and dance (very well) but it seems he forgot a bit the "ACTING PART" of the character .. :S

@Waddlepop8898 actually, this is not "Daniel's character". Robert Morse opened the role on Broadway. And then the revival had Matthew Broderick. And then, and only then, did Dan take the role in the 2011 revival.
Dan has played many other characters in Equus and December Boys etc. and Darren has not touched them. And Darren is on Glee, which has nothing to do with Dan.
So, no. I don't think he really is "stealing all of Daniel's characters." Nice try though. :)
he's really great, but he doesn't have a broadway voice, he's got a recording voice which is why he's so good on Glee but DanRad was so much better for this role and broadway

S have been positive and everyone has loved him and praised him; he finished filming glee at like 3 in the morning on the Saturday, did a couple of gigs in the weekend then had only 2 weeks to prepare for his opening night and if this song is anything to go by, he's done extremely well in those 2 weeks and I'm sure he is giving nothing but 110% to this!

I think his voice is still kind of stuck in the Glee stage. It sounds like he should belong in HSM or something. It's a little soft for broadway. He's still good though! Although I prefer Dan all the way <3
:D Saw him Thursday Jan 5th :DDDD I didnt like the first scene, as in he was good but ... not that great but then after the first musical number I was like WOW fucking christ love it. (only his 4th performance) And just wow his comedic timing ahhaha and the freaking dancing scene with beau bridge about football and this one was flawless loved it. ahha

i grew up with dan and love him so much and he was incredible in the show. i'm obsessed with darren and he was equally incredible in the show.

Hey Guys, calm down! He might not be the best or as good as Dan was, but that's because while Daniel Radcliffe had several months to prepare for this role, Darren only had two weeks. He said it him self in an interview, he only had TWO week to learn every dance move and vocal!
Now I'm not trying to bash Dan at ALL! I saw him in How to Succeed and he was AMAZING! But honestly give Darren a break! He's only been at it for a few days! I'm sure he'll improve as the days go on.

I don´t know really a lot about Darren.. but in my opinion he´s not good for Broadway, sorry.
I must had been hard fr him debuting with a leading role, though, I´ll give him that. But, he´s on Glee, where he is "used" to sing and dance. I think he is the best dancer, seeing the videos of Brotherhood of Man, Dan is the best actor, and since I know how Nick can change his voice (Hairspray) and dance still, I think Nick is the best singer. But, idk, my opinion can still change

I wonder what night this is from. I saw him on 1/8 and he sounded much, much better. His voice was stronger and had more of a Broadway quality to it. He danced well and sang well. He didn't sound winded and weak. I wonder if this version is from opening night.

Say what you want, Darren is SUPERMEGAFOXYAWESOMEHOT in this and in everything he does, and the fact that all of the reviews for his performance were really positive, says more to me about how good he really was, than the comments on this page ever could. Besides I have heard that I Believe In You is his real shining moment. I would love for him to do more Broadway in the future, I would especially love to see him do West Side Story, he has already proven that he would make the perfect Tony!

darren <3 i don't see how ppl can like dan rad's version more, his voice is too coarse for singing n he tries way too hard cuz i dun think his voice is meant for reaching those notes.
n darren has 2 weeks to prepare only and dan rad has a whole year, tat's one big difference

@gingachick14 its because he's not using an MT voice he's using a pop style voice that he uses on glee, and its not in the style of the musical and it doesnt have any support.

Okay, so people should stop arguing.
Darren and Daniel are two different people, with different talents, who may do similar things, but you shouldn't compare them.
Darren is brilliant in H2$ even though he only had 2 weeks rehearsal, and he's not exactly trained to be a Broadway singer, while Dan had a lot of training for the role.
So you can't really compare them.
Just enjoy the music.

Frankly, I found him to be the worst leading man I have ever seen on Broadway. And trust me I have seen dozens of productions on Broadway alone. He does not belong on Broadway, and clearly does not have a bright future there.

I'd like to add that I have lots of friends that have seen him perform this several times. They said that the 5th performance was a lot better than the opening night performance. Also, i saw a video of last night's show. The singing was greatly improved over this video and the dancing was wonderful. Go Darren!

I feel like this recording doesn't do his voice justice at all! Knowing that he was never a trained singer, I went into the show prepared to hear some off-key pitches and a thin voice, but that was not the case. He owned this song-vocals, dancing, emotion and all! I think it's impossible to get a great recording from a simple point-and-shoot camera, if that is what this was recorded on.

I do like Dan's Finch better, but still I know how hard Darren is working, and this is his first Broadway show and he only had a two week rehearsal process so I can understand that he would be a little nervous and weak. He has said himself in interviews that he doesn't have any actual musical theatre training, so this is really a first for professional plays. Though I like Dan's Finch better, I still feel really proud of how far Darren has gotten himself and that he has his dreams coming true

I guess we can only make our judgment when we have the actual dance as well... making a judgment NOW is a bit too soon. And this version is, well, an illegal version. And the Dan Rad ones you see on YouTube are pretty official so they have better audio.

It's not about voices performance, or dance performance (they are both great singers and dancers)
But, for me, the problem it's how Darren "plays" Finch, actually, it's like he's here to sing (very well) and dance (very well) but it seems he forgot a bit the "ACTING PART" of the character .. :S

@Waddlepop8898 actually, this is not "Daniel's character". Robert Morse opened the role on Broadway. And then the revival had Matthew Broderick. And then, and only then, did Dan take the role in the 2011 revival.
Dan has played many other characters in Equus and December Boys etc. and Darren has not touched them. And Darren is on Glee, which has nothing to do with Dan.
So, no. I don't think he really is "stealing all of Daniel's characters." Nice try though. :)

I'm so proud of DarrenXD I do think he does a totally awesome job in this...but I just don't think he fits the part, he'd be better suited for playing link larkin or fiyero, but his voice is just too modern for the time period this takes place in, i think dan did a better job with the character.

S have been positive and everyone has loved him and praised him; he finished filming glee at like 3 in the morning on the Saturday, did a couple of gigs in the weekend then had only 2 weeks to prepare for his opening night and if this song is anything to go by, he's done extremely well in those 2 weeks and I'm sure he is giving nothing but 110% to this!

I think his voice is still kind of stuck in the Glee stage. It sounds like he should belong in HSM or something. It's a little soft for broadway. He's still good though! Although I prefer Dan all the way <3

For all of you saying he doesn't sound like Daniel Radcliffe... He's not Daniel Radcliffe! Daniel was good, and Darren is good. Their voices are very different so I don't think it's fair to judge as one better than the other. They both have very good, very different voices.
