wow, this was truly amazing. the movie touched my heart and made me cry more than i have ever cried over a movie. the fact that it is a true story made it even more compelling. lee pace did a fantastic job in this movie. and he is actually a very pretty girl. watching this i almost cried all over again. i wish hatred like this didn't exist, but unfortunately it does. Calpernia is one of the strongest woman. i couldnt imagine going through that.

Yes it is a true story! I knew Calpernia and Barry. The movie is little glamorized in spots but that's hollywood. They could have picked a better lead because Calpernia was not that masculine and soooooo sweet. Barry was a little slow but he had a heart of gold. Bad temper but heart of gold. And I remember when it happened and all the trouble and degrading Cal went through when he died. It was awful.

I woke this morn, so wanting to know the ending, I have ordered a copy... it really stuck in my head.. Can't wait to watch the whole movie.. Guess i will cry?

@tvJUKIE123 Yep! Cal was performing at the "Connection" in Nashville. I had friends that did drag as well so I knew her and remember Barry hanging around. I still talk to Cal every once in awhile. She still comes home on occasion. When it happened nobody could believe it! Cal was so sweet. She was in the Navy too. Very down to earth. Sweet, sweet person.

The funny thing is that this particular story doesnt just happen in the military BUT also in the society where a guy is gay but repressed it soo much, he doesnt know how to define his sexuality anymore(Shawn's xter)...The film was great but sad and tragic!

This is a GREAT movie! Garity and Pace had excellent chemistry. The sex scenes were pretty hot, considering that both of these guys are straight. (and I've got a thing for Garity anyway) But more importantly, this movie needs to be seen because it tells the TRUE horror tale of what happened to Private Barry Winchell when his fellow "comrades" found out he was dating a transsexual. They murdered him for it. A wonderful movie, vivid, real and sad. Rest In Peace Barry, Rest In Peace.
