@mvkvo He was extremely scared. He said he didn't know what to do, if to stand or stay sitted or escape. You can clearly see he was looking at all the reporters, and after he was informed they started taking pictures. He didn't want to scare the kids, when he finally stood up to take some decisions a reporter standed and said "Mr. President what do you think about..." and Bush interrupted him and said "We'll talk about that later". He was very concerned for the kids.

Sitting there knowing that you have to order military pilots to go into the air, and a whole bunch of other secret service personnel into action, close the airways and be shoved into some doomsday plane by your commanders, knowing that all these kids are going to be left on the ground whilst not really knowing who is at risk or what is going to happen next is probably damned well frightening for any human being.

Alot of people seem to think that Bush should have got up and run out on hearing the news of the planes hitting. Think about it, he is in a class full of children who have been eagerly awaitng to see him. Theyve drawn him pictures and written stories for him to take home with him. He cant just get up and come out, he owes them some of his time. Also, could he really rush out and alarm the kids sending them into a panic? I dont think so!! It was still going to be there for him to deal with later.

I disagreed with a lot of Bush's policies like most people on here, but whatever was going on up there in his head, it was the RIGHT decision not to get up and charge out of the door frightening the children. Whether he should have stayed and listened for another 5 minutes is debatable however, the romanticism of him doing this action is, to a small degree admirable, albeit in the end I think wrong.
