@dkelley563 IMO you cant go wrong. The xd blows my mind, best groupings I have ever had. Something about it is awesome. I shot many Glocks and I hate them, they are all over the place. Get a Steyr M9-1A before a Glock its the same guy who designed the Glock only with improvements.

@YouMotherIsAwsome I'm in the same boat. I'm left-handed and HATE Glocks. I have small, stubby fingers and they feel like a brick in my hand; very square. I love the looks of the Beretta 92fs, only, I don't like the trigger pull. I'm pretty focussed on the Springfield. It's a great package for the money, with LOTS of options for upgrades. Check it out.
@spookypunky I love my glock23, but my knuckles cant take it anymore. im left handed as well, and for some reason my middle finger knuckle rubs hard on the trigger guard. this doesn't happen with my right hand. and i grip it high and in the same manner with both hands. ive shot the xd40 multiple times, and im thinking of switching over.
I bought this in .40 after seeing this review. The thing shoots like a dream! I've found that the mag release IS a little stiff on mine, but it's not too unruly. In probably 4-500 rounds I've had 2 failures to feed, but I think those were mag issues.
What the .....??? Why in hell did he put that Lady Gaga link in this video and comment on checking it out? That was totally out of nowhere and had nothing to do with this review whatsoever. Guess he was just trying to be a goofball. Maybe he just took to much codeine for his cold during this video. Lady Gaga out of nowhere on a pistol review... hahaha.
@thadea I own a fnp9usg and have yet to have a malfunction, or magazine locking problem, the opposite can be true, it ejects mags very well, and when inserting magazines they lock tight. I've shot an xdm 9 and 40 and they are great pistols as well. I haven't shot a glock 17 or a walther p99. Go shoot and hold them and get a feel for which one you like. The only thing that I dislike with my fnp9 usg is that I sometimes over-actuate the saftey and decock it but that is user error. I like mine alot
Good Croatian Gun. I see the positive aspects of this gun. It turns me on, but i prefer the MP9 over it. One Reason, it's 100% American in origin and manufacture. All guns have a positive aspect. I love all guns :).
excellent review. new to this world, appreciate the attention to detail and honest review. likely this will be my pistol for the home, still considering 9mm vs 40, i'll decide after i shoot them a bunch.
@cyruseven75 If you're looking for any outside opinions, if you're new to shooting I'd suggest going with a 9mm. Slightly less recoil makes it that much easier for newer shooters to control, while also giving you a larger capacity, allowing for more rounds to be sent to the target, or possible threat, if you're intending for home defense. Just my thoughts, everyone's different though, making sure to try out both before you decide on one or the other is definitely a good idea.
@brqde1319 thanks for the info. i've shot the 9mm quite a bit, will shoot the 40 cal. a lot also, then decide. i see your point about the two calibers, both do the job if you practice getting rounds where they need to go, into the threat in numbers. the 20rds for home defense is very appealing in 9mm. i was set on glock until i saw/fired the springfield. i like the added safety being that the wife and I are fairly new to firearms, biggest safety is the shooter though, i get that. thanks again.
I definitely prefer having the grip safety for concealed carry, excellent safeguard just in case clothing gets inside the trigger guard while holstering.
OK...just got to the part of you freaking out over the jams you had. Had to stop there. You kept saying you are being brand agnostic...but you had too much of a fit over it.
I see now reason to dislike the grip safety. Properly gripping the pistol disengages the safety and it fires fine. Is it needed? Probably not. But to openly say "I don't liiiikkeee iiiitttt" just comes off weird when basically you can flat out ignore it and it doesn't matter to you.
Hey nutn some of the best gun reviews I have seen, Especially this one. I bought the XDm 45 last thursday and what a gun. Thanks for the review influenced my decision alot.
So there i was not paying attention and talking on the phone and your got me. I listen and all the sudden you say click on that video and i did.... you owe me 5mins of my life back.
Will you doing any vids on the Sig P226 Tactical Operations at any plossible time, the reason I ask is I'm thinking of getting one but I'm not sure. I currently own an FNP .45 USG, love it by the way, yes it like all the new FNH handguns has that new magazine, and magazine retention system which I'm happy to say has whith over 500+rounds fired through it had zero accidental mag drops. Love all the videos you've done, and keep up the good work, hope to see more soon.
I have the SPG XD 40 Service and I'm very happy with it. My decision came down to the Glock and the XD. The XD felt better in my hand. After several hundred rounds I have only had one failure to feed which occured immediatly after I accidently burried the gun and mag in the dirt/sand while shooting in the desert. Racked the slide and finished the mag w/o a prob. Didn't clean it, just blew it out and continued to shoot. Trigger and slide were gritty but had no probs the rest of the day.
My carry conceal is the 3.8 compact and I love it to death. I have pierce grips for the flush mag to get a full grip on the smaller mag, which is just awesome. Shoots like a dream
thank you for your unbiased and thorough reviews. you bring a breath of fresh air on here when it comes to reviewers and Concealed carry advocacy. keep up the awesome work man.
Great video thank you for the review, looking into purchasing this fire arm with a family member, review played a big part, THANK YOU! Keep up the good work, it is much appreciated!
Hey Nutn, guess what i did.!! I bought my self an XDm 9mm. I cant wait to get it. Your reveiws really did help me in my purchase making decision. Thanks.
Thank you VERY much for this AWESOME review NUTNFANCY! Your my GO TO resource for this type of comparison information. I just picked up a FIRST GEN HS 2000 9mm. LOVE it! I hope to see XD come out with a version like the original with no rails (my pers. pref) sorry.. Again POU type is different. Also, I would love to loan it to you to do a review on my first Gen 9mm HS2000 if possible, (not too many out there at all!). Thanks Again Nutnfancy! Look forward to more great Reviews! You rock, Aston.
Big fan of Nutnfancy's reviews, love em. I guess I have the best of both world's as I have both a Glock (G19) and XD9sc though no XDM yet. I have almost 5000 rounds through the XD9sc without a single failure. About 1000 through the G19, it's newer without issue. The XDM looks like another winner....thank Nutnfancy.
looks pretty bad for XD. lol. I own a glock 22, and never had any malfunction yet, but have shot my friend's XD and it shoot well too. Weird how it jammed like that though.
I would rather have a Kimber 1911 than a Colt 1911 A1, even though the Kimber is a "copy" of the original Colt. Polymer pistols will evolve past the Glock, and besides offering changeable backstraps, Glocks gonna have to step up, or get left in the dust. For some reason Gaston refuses to modernize the ergonomics, or change the style on his models. Innovation cannot remain static. Eventually someone will surpass you.
@nutnfancy hey man just an fyi, i was corrected by someone that myopic is pronounced my-oh-pic, you know tomato ... well tomato haha but just the way i grew up with that word, anyways love your vids man always looking foward to the new ones
Just going to check in here as one of those shooters that respectfully disagrees with Nutnfancy on the issue of CCW with an XD or similar type pistol. I carry an XD .40S&W subcompact daily / near daily and find it comfortable, using a Blackhawk cloth / nylon squishy holster. He's right that there are slimmer options and I respect that he prefers those, but my experience carrying a wider weapon (S&W M&P40c previously) has been favorable.
just bught a xdm .40 only shot 32 rounds through it today. hope it holds up. i went to pick up a ruger sr40 but then seen the springfield and had to have it. do you think the fiber optics sights would be better than the stock ones? one long video but u better believe i watched the whole thing. good job
Nutn- I live in a place with high humidity and am really considering selling my kimber because it rusts so quickly. Would you say the trigger on the XDM is comparable to a light 1911 trigger?
@TheConservativeArmy Not a stock XDM trigger but the grip angle will be familiar and if you get a PRP trigger kit for the XDm you will have a trigger that will feel very similar to your current Kimber 1911.
2 years ago i sold my glock 17 so i can buy an xdm9. one year later i sold my xdm so i can buy my gf an engagement ring. i called off the wedding because she ended up being a monster and i sold her ring to get myself out a debt. about 6 months later i was able to affors a new pistol. i weighed my options and i bought another glock 17 instead of a new xdm. i kinda regret it but i love glock. so i think ill save up for a new xdm and have both
which one of these two do you think would perform the longest in a WROL where you couldn't clean your gun, assuming they were both clean to begin with? i'm sold on one of these two handguns, but the only remaining factor is reliability for me. any help would be appreciate, thanks :D
Awsome review... thinking about getting this pistol... how did u get that Catalog? i called them and the woman told me they werent sending any out..?? what kinda company is that.. already makes me think there not a good company..?? i was just wonting to get some info on it... Thanks N_F....!! (haha.. ladyGaga video.. ) haha.. good one..!!
I'd still give the nod to Glock on reliability, but I just can't accept the concept that somebody wont excuse a machine for not working without lubrication.
"But Glock will do it!"
Yeah there are all sorts of crazy torture tests the Glock has been put through that the XDm has not, but among them I have not literally seen a Glock that was bone dry function flawlessly.
Again, I'd believe the Glock as the more reliable gun, but asking a machine to run dry is asking too much.
@MikeReiner Glock has no real requirement to be conventionally lubricated. The small area that actually is a friction bearing service has nominal drag properties. I have shot literally hundreds to thousands of rounds through my Glocks without any attention to lubrication at all. It just isn't a factor like it is with a steel frame/steel slide handgun.
@MikeReiner Yes it is steel on steel, but the "rails" are small steel inserts (for lack of a better term) and there is very little contact surface compared to long full length tightly fitted slide to frame set-ups like in a 1911. Lots of flex in the polymer frame as well while the weapon is in recoil stroke. Pretty fascinating actally. There is a video out with r.lee ermie shooting a Glock 18 in slow motion..... you can see the flex. It is crazy.
I know Glocks have a great history, but I couldn't get use to the angle of the grip and the trigger safety. I have the XD45, I've seen issues with stopping power with a 9mm us all.
I shot a friend's xdm45 for the first time, and just couldn't miss. I'm no bullseye shooter, and I normally need a couple of mags to get used to a new gun. But the trigger and I suppose ergonomics had me driving tacks. I need one.
Its so weird seeing PFI Dude being called by (im assuming) his real name and being talked about how new he is, considering what a staple he is now in TNP.
What do you think of the 3.8 vs the 4.5" Barrel... Pro's/Con's? I'll be throwing in the dresser drawer at night, and to the range at the weekend and sometimes to the mountains in a backpack. What do you think would be my best option? Def going XDM 9 3.8/4.5 or Glock 17/19...
Yes 40 Cal XDM sometimes feedz wrong & jams with full metal jacket. i have had it happen 2 times. I know an Army munitions expert that has had it happen much more then that. but he spends 10-15 hours practicing each week. he claims it is the angle the bullet exits the mag that is causing this. he also says it rarely happens with hollow points or flat nose bullets on the XDM. XDM feeds Hollow Point much better then the Glock. & Vise Versa for Full Metal jacket. he says go XDM & go "Hydra-Shok"!
Don't you think eye pro would be a good idea? Even if you don't care about your own eyes the fans watching shouldn't be thinking they don't need eye pro.
Hey Nutn, have you had any more problems with the XDM?
Do you feel the XDM is "safer" to carry due to the extra safety?
I have a CWP, but I never carry. I am going to start but due to my "fatness" (LOL), I am worried that the glock may shift on me when I am sitting down or driving. I know it sounds crazy, but is there a risk in setting off the trigger with fat people who carry? ... would the XDM be a better choice for me?
Does the 9mm have the same issue when trying to put a full mag in? Not a problem as long as you're willing to slam it in there hard to lock it down. For me with a .40 it's not AWFUL (gets better as time goes on), but kinda annoying, especially when the gun is new.
I shot the .40 so much better than the .45 and I shot both better in Springfield (XDm .40 and XD .45) and the Glock counterparts, I shot the XDs much better. I just like the angle better.
Rock on Nutn. I'm a big fan and love all the gear reviews. Learning so much that I will be able to pass down to my boys. Already integrated the Kershaw Skyline into my EDC and love it. Regarding the XDM. I owned the XD 357 for a few years and love everything about it other than the cost of ammo. Wish I still had it. For someone like me with hands on the smaller size, the XDM is the pistol I'm going with and from this review I don't think I'll regret the decision.
Just because 15 rounds don't stop a guy doesn't mean its your fault. A police officer was involved in a shootout with a suspect. It was just those 2. The cop hit the guy 22 time 17 of those 22 were center mass "kill zone" shots (cop had a .40 Glock 22). The guy didn't die till 4 minutes after the shooting and it took all those shots to get to the point where the guy was stopped. The fact you can't stop someone in 15 shots does not mean you suck.
Great Video I agree with almost everything you said here. I am a bog XD guy but have a lot of respect for Glocks. Hard to argue with a gun that has been around for 20 years and has the following that Glock does.
just my 2 cents i am a police officer and i carry my xdm 3.8 9mm both on and of duty ccw i know it may not be the best ccw but i have muscle memory with it i also carry a glock 17 on duty as my main firearm i love them both but i do shoot tighter with the xdm
Nutnfancy: In your description of this video, you said the XDm comes with 3 mags. If that's so, I'm even more excited to get one, but I do believe it just comes with 2 mags. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for being thorough with your guns reviews. I really appreciate it.
LOVE YOUR vids I own the xdm 40 and 45 xdm and no problems feeding , but with reset , being I unloaded a magazine fast " testing speed " I thought it miss fire , It was the reset , My glocks I UNLOAD like really fast and I know my first shot will be my kill shot but I any way I love my XDms . My carry gun is a black Glock 30 and my in pick up truck a glock 20 call me crazy but every good sheep dog needs a canon. I bet my life on my G 20 lol .Great vids and god bless
I am partial to Kimber 1911s, but I've owned a Springfield XD in 357Sig, and shot a buddy's Glock in .40S&W. Both were very good. Between the two, I liked the XD a little better. I shot a buddy's XDM in 9mm, and enjoyed it too. The XDs are a bit cheaper around here than the Glocks are, and I actually liked the XD better, however, I only shot a couple mags through the Glock. It's pretty much up to each person. Both are great pistols.

Love TNP reviews but my one criticism of the XD and XDM designs is: iconic US brand name, pistol built and designed in Croatia.
Now I have no problems with the Croats but this says it all about the US arms industry these days.
All Springfield has done is taken a pistol made by HS Produkt (formerly IM Metals) and slapped their name on it.
Winner guys!!!

I think in many ways it kinda combines the 1911 and Glock type with similar features from both.

Lady Gaga out of nowhere on a pistol review... hahaha.

xdm9 and 40
glock 17
walther p99
fnp9 (fnx maybe..potential mag lock problem?)
thadea 2 months ago
@thadea I own a fnp9usg and have yet to have a malfunction, or magazine locking problem, the opposite can be true, it ejects mags very well, and when inserting magazines they lock tight. I've shot an xdm 9 and 40 and they are great pistols as well. I haven't shot a glock 17 or a walther p99. Go shoot and hold them and get a feel for which one you like. The only thing that I dislike with my fnp9 usg is that I sometimes over-actuate the saftey and decock it but that is user error. I like mine alot

excellent review. new to this world, appreciate the attention to detail and honest review. likely this will be my pistol for the home, still considering 9mm vs 40, i'll decide after i shoot them a bunch.
cyruseven75 3 months ago
@cyruseven75 If you're looking for any outside opinions, if you're new to shooting I'd suggest going with a 9mm. Slightly less recoil makes it that much easier for newer shooters to control, while also giving you a larger capacity, allowing for more rounds to be sent to the target, or possible threat, if you're intending for home defense. Just my thoughts, everyone's different though, making sure to try out both before you decide on one or the other is definitely a good idea.
brqde1319 3 months ago
@brqde1319 thanks for the info. i've shot the 9mm quite a bit, will shoot the 40 cal. a lot also, then decide. i see your point about the two calibers, both do the job if you practice getting rounds where they need to go, into the threat in numbers. the 20rds for home defense is very appealing in 9mm. i was set on glock until i saw/fired the springfield. i like the added safety being that the wife and I are fairly new to firearms, biggest safety is the shooter though, i get that. thanks again.
cyruseven75 3 months ago
I definitely prefer having the grip safety for concealed carry, excellent safeguard just in case clothing gets inside the trigger guard while holstering.
fs2kshooter 3 months ago
I would not catagorize Glock's slide serrations as "excellent". Not even close. Ever try to rack a Glock with wet hands?
myantispambox 3 months ago
OK...just got to the part of you freaking out over the jams you had. Had to stop there. You kept saying you are being brand agnostic...but you had too much of a fit over it.
Trenaur 3 months ago
I see now reason to dislike the grip safety. Properly gripping the pistol disengages the safety and it fires fine. Is it needed? Probably not. But to openly say "I don't liiiikkeee iiiitttt" just comes off weird when basically you can flat out ignore it and it doesn't matter to you.

DJGyron 5 months ago
I have the SPG XD 40 Service and I'm very happy with it. My decision came down to the Glock and the XD. The XD felt better in my hand. After several hundred rounds I have only had one failure to feed which occured immediatly after I accidently burried the gun and mag in the dirt/sand while shooting in the desert. Racked the slide and finished the mag w/o a prob. Didn't clean it, just blew it out and continued to shoot. Trigger and slide were gritty but had no probs the rest of the day.

You fired 10 rounds out of the XDM; are you using reduced capacity magazines or just loaded only 10 rounds into the mag?
Painkiller9013 7 months ago
Just going to check in here as one of those shooters that respectfully disagrees with Nutnfancy on the issue of CCW with an XD or similar type pistol. I carry an XD .40S&W subcompact daily / near daily and find it comfortable, using a Blackhawk cloth / nylon squishy holster. He's right that there are slimmer options and I respect that he prefers those, but my experience carrying a wider weapon (S&W M&P40c previously) has been favorable.
Thanks for your POV as always.

@TheConservativeArmy Not a stock XDM trigger but the grip angle will be familiar and if you get a PRP trigger kit for the XDm you will have a trigger that will feel very similar to your current Kimber 1911.

metalman11111 8 months ago
which one of these two do you think would perform the longest in a WROL where you couldn't clean your gun, assuming they were both clean to begin with? i'm sold on one of these two handguns, but the only remaining factor is reliability for me. any help would be appreciate, thanks :D

Thanks N_F....!! (haha.. ladyGaga video.. ) haha.. good one..!!
brucenunn37 9 months ago
I'd still give the nod to Glock on reliability, but I just can't accept the concept that somebody wont excuse a machine for not working without lubrication.
"But Glock will do it!"
Yeah there are all sorts of crazy torture tests the Glock has been put through that the XDm has not, but among them I have not literally seen a Glock that was bone dry function flawlessly.
Again, I'd believe the Glock as the more reliable gun, but asking a machine to run dry is asking too much.
MikeReiner 9 months ago
@MikeReiner Glock has no real requirement to be conventionally lubricated. The small area that actually is a friction bearing service has nominal drag properties. I have shot literally hundreds to thousands of rounds through my Glocks without any attention to lubrication at all. It just isn't a factor like it is with a steel frame/steel slide handgun.
SpartanCombativesGrp 9 months ago
@SpartanCombativesGrp Isn't the slide on a Glock steel, and ride on steel rails?
Either way, if the Glock functions flawlessly without any heed to lubrication, then I concede on the matter.
MikeReiner 9 months ago
@MikeReiner Yes it is steel on steel, but the "rails" are small steel inserts (for lack of a better term) and there is very little contact surface compared to long full length tightly fitted slide to frame set-ups like in a 1911. Lots of flex in the polymer frame as well while the weapon is in recoil stroke. Pretty fascinating actally. There is a video out with r.lee ermie shooting a Glock 18 in slow motion..... you can see the flex. It is crazy.

TheHeartOfTheLion 10 months ago
Just got the XDM 9mm 4.5". Pick it up in a few days. Can't wait.
irishman182 10 months ago

Keep up the great work!!!
kblake71 10 months ago
Just because 15 rounds don't stop a guy doesn't mean its your fault. A police officer was involved in a shootout with a suspect. It was just those 2. The cop hit the guy 22 time 17 of those 22 were center mass "kill zone" shots (cop had a .40 Glock 22). The guy didn't die till 4 minutes after the shooting and it took all those shots to get to the point where the guy was stopped. The fact you can't stop someone in 15 shots does not mean you suck.
