2-If the entire population decides a government is abusive it has the right to overthrow it. That doesn't mean that if a state or even city disagrees with the fed gov. they have the right to withdraw from the USA. Thats called a rebellion, and putting down a rebellion is not only constitional, but constitutionally mandated.

It is significant that no Confederate leader was ever brought to trial for treason. A trial would have brought a verdict on the constitutional legality of secession. Federal prosecutors were satisfied with the verdict that had been decided in battle.

I was there the day the flag was taken off our capital dome in SC. The flag is a symbal of HERITAGE.....NOT HATE ! Have you actually read the constitution? Have you ever read the federalist papers? The constitution doesn't say "states cannot leave the union" The constitution article 1&2. Read the entire thing and show me where it gives the states the right to leave whenever they see fit. Tell me of one document that is a part of our republic that allows the states to leave.

Read Article 1 Section 10....No state can enter into a union or confederacy....Read it yourself. Also that no State my raise a standing army without the consent of Congress. What if??? Brother Rob, don't ya think the So-states knew of the article? Lawyers were all over the legal aspects of secession. They could not do anything in article 1- section 10 as long as they claimed to be a part of the U.S. That is why the southern states left the union separately. Once separate, then the formation took place. Again, no state would have joined the union if they knew leaving was not allowed. Does it get much simpler than that? Section 10 is applicable while being a part of the union.

Wrong. The Southern states signed on to it, lived by it, then when it became convienient they decided to abandon it. When you abandon the nations constitution you abandon that nation.....TREASON. The only reason none of the tratiors were prosecuted is to try to heal the nation and reunite it.
