For an english homework I have to read Frankenstein. While in the middle of the book this song came onto my ipod; it makes the whole book seem so much richer and more powerful. I defiantly suggest you try it; it makes me get goosebumps all ovee. Truly amazing book, music and of course, Young Frankenstein has to be one of the best films ever made :')
I absolutely despise the fact that more people now know this fantastically haunting piece of film music as nothing more than fodder for that dumb chipmunk vid
Young Frankenstein is not just not just another Mel Brooks comedy (brilliant though they are) there are moments of true pathos and true horror, and I can think Morris' theme is the crown jewel. Within the spoof of the Universal Horrors he made a piece to rival (and in my opinion top) the music of the serious originals.
I know the movie is on many levels a comedy, an adaptation of both the book and the films it spawned. But it is a love story after all - just like the original film, and this music makes me cry it is so deep and moving it make the film more then just a comedy.
yea i was watching the movie for the first time in a while the other day and had to rewind it like 10 times to try to remember what that was from. it finally clicked a couple days later.
I'm not NEARLY as old as this film, our teacher just started showing it to us today in school, and the minute it went on i wa slike "OMG SICK MUSIC!" people were like "fast forward past credits!" and i said "NO I LOVE THE MUSIC!" (thank god he didn't speed it up, phew) glad it was so easy to find! thanks for posting! soon as i get my ipod back, this is SO going on. The movie's funny so far, we're about to the part where he finds his grandfahters secret libraray. cant wait to finish friday!
Would you reccomend it for a teenager? *cough* hint hint....and I think I could understand it, should I keep a dictionary in hand.... references to God may bother me, though but.....is it anything like the movie? The movie was a comedy and all.
Splendido montaggio, immagini poetiche, straordinarie ed estremamente suggestive. Musica bellissima. Bravissimo o bravissima, non so, di sicuro sei una persona romantica come me. Gianni
Hey, I'm playing this tune at a gig I have soon. I've been plugging away at it by ear, but I'm probably going to end up writing it down. If you want, I could send it to you when I finish.
I don't know who's idea it was that Frankenstein should end with Frankenstein's monster running away to a windmill with his bride while being chased away by the villagers, where they finally burn him. First, that's not how the original novel ends. Second, in Mary Shelley's novel, the monster is extremely strong and fast, so no villagers could "chase" him away anywhere. Third, Frankenstein refuses to make him his bride in the novel. And Dracula is another case. Get the stories straight.
I agree entirely but leaving the inconsistencies aside, they make good films. But then again as Christopher Lee once said - "No one has ever filmed it the way Stoker wrote it"
you mean shelley, yeah? stoker wrote dracula whereas mary shelley wrote frankenstein. the quotes undoubtedly right but since this film isnt about dracula or vampires in general :)
I was refering to Dracula with the quote from Christopher Lee but was coniving to sugest that when It comes to Film versions of these Great books, no one ever does it right.
Of course Mel Brooks's film is a send-up of the old Frankenstein films, but it is also a loving tribute. Morris's music sets the tone perfectly, with just the right mix of real pathos and absurdly over-the-top drama. Lovely, and the best tribute a film composer could write.

I absolutley love this music. The violin plays greatly in this sad like tone which what makes it sound so beautiful. Every note in this music really gets into my soul and it just takes my breath away.
I remember when I was watching a Sky movie special on Van Helsing a few years ago, I heard this music playing in the background during a brief interview with Hugh Jackman and I instantly recognised it by the violin playing.
Thanks for bringing back a good memory that I will treasure forever.
You should check out some of his soundtracks, which are available in stores; one of my favourites is the soundtrack to The Elephant Man. He did music for a lot of Mel Brooks movies (the latter included, obviously) such as the old Producers, Blazing Saddles, and High Anxiety.
