mine is 4:47 and I'm 30 :) in high school it was 5:10, did XC for 2 years then fucked up and quit and skateboarded with my friends bad mistake but I'm still running..Never Stop
@tennisplayer1922, you know somehow I doubt that you're doing a 4:40 mile when you're 13, maybe a 1500 meter 4:40 but no way you're doing 4:40 miles when you're 13
@jjcherry829 if u really think so look it up on the junior Olympics website I got 8th place in the regional 4k in queensbury,NY in 13:28 which is a 5:25 mile average
@TennisPlayer1922 Cool were u in the youth race? I was there too and placed 241st, :( had a bad race so... but I guess u placed pretty high if you ran a 13:28. And yeah the course was pretty hilly. Did u beat ben veatch at nationals?
@sergizwtf It depends on the runner, but it's generally more efficient to land directly under your center of gravity. With shoes it's impossible to truly run naturally, but the "pose" method is probably the closest thing to it.
Heel-striking robs you of forward momentum by redirecting gravity's downward force backward. Momentum is helped by inertia - an object in motion tends to stay in motion.
You can hear the poster's footstrikes, there's a lot of energy in those impacts.
Wow I'm like slow, have no will, and no stamina! I'm 14- and never run...lol and I went for like a 5min jog and my legs felt like they...idk were running for hours! Like a floaty feeling, and I felt like I was gonna die XD haha I'm not fat, I'm only 105lbs- 5'3. I should really start getting in shape. nice job!
I'm 6'2, 202 lbs and run a 6:07 mile. I bench 205 8 times so I'm at least averagely strong. I'm trying to run sub 6 but I just can't loose the weight nor decrease time. Do you have any tips? The tip you gave to Geto sounds great for speed increasing (pace wise). I'm trying to figure out how to cut fat, gain strength and become faster....if you have any tips I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
thats pretty good there. I just ran in a race yesturday and I ran a 5:04 mile. I just started running again in June and now I want to train for the Olympics....so..of course I have a long ways to go.
I feel like a slow poke. I was happy with the 7:36 i ran 4 weeks ago til I came on here. It took me 9 months running 3 days a week to get down to 7:36 from somewhere in the 10's
Cool, My goal for summer is to do a 5 minute mile, I havent attempted anything under a 2 mile run, averaging 7 minutes per mile. So im gonna focus on speed rather than endurance.
@EquuleusPictor If you actually open your eyes and look at the beginning of the video, you will see that he started his run way back from the finish line, at the mile start line. Oh, and BTW, a mile is 1609 metres, not 1610...
Good hard run man. I am in the 6th grade, and my best 1600 time is 6:00. I ran it at sectionals, trying to go under 6. If I can, I'd like to go to state next year. I'll have to run a 5:15, and I would also like to run under five minutes in eighth grade.
very nice dude, my fastest was 543 when i was in 8th grade, now i am in 11th grade trying to get it back, starting at 6min mile so hoping to shave more than a min off, any pointers have not trained in a long time?
@xxHeadsh0t2392xx just really push on the third lap that's where people usually let down a little because they want to get ready to do the last lap really fast.
i am at 640 right now and i need it down to 540, any advice, other than keep trying? like stuff i can do outside of actually running such as leg exercises or something along those lines.
@PianistSTeve2 mine is 5:51, i'm trying for 5:30 right now. however, i am dealing with a back spasm that hurts insanely bad and cant do cross country practice today. sucks.
I'm only 4 years old and I can run a mile in 4 minutes and I can't do 87 pushups and 42 pull ups with one hand and I don't even try jeez I'm so strong
Hey, how old were you when you did this? and how long did you train for, and what kind of training did you do? Sorry thats a lot of questions but I'm really trying to get better at running, and I'd appreciate if you responded =D
Hello Geto. I was 29 when I started running. I was running 6 minutes for a mile to begin with. Over 3 months specific speed training I got down to 5minutes and 1 second. I did intervals of 2 x 800m, and 4 x 400m, 4 x 200m. Try to keep each lap faster than your best mile pace. Give yourself a good rest in between intervals and try and reduce the rest when you get faster. Twice a week max for this training.
@biggussconnus hey man, whats your run time now? Btw I noticed you said you ran intervals, I started them recently and was just thinking how long rest should I take? I ran 6x400m's the first 4 in 1:20 and the last 2 in around 1:30.. I rest 1 minute but it doesn't feel enough.. although I did run them? Should I rest longer? thanks:)
i got a 4:53.51 so i missed qualifying for my state meet by half a second. thats with a little less than two months of training so its not that bad for a highschool sophomore. at the state meet there were several kids who ran the two mile at a faster pace than my 1 mile though. took a hit on the ego
no, i just live in delaware. we were the first state but we are also the second smallest, so all schools in delaware go to states. there are no divisionals and regionals. our fastest miler was also our fastest cross country runner and two miler. he went 4:19, 19.19, and either high 14s or low fifteens in 5k. i know that most other states usually have guys that run like 4:10 in the mile in highschool though
what is the provisional qualifying time? Because sometimes in Delaware has extra spots open because not enough people ran the qualifying time. And yes, PA is WAY faster than Delaware. Do you know why that is?
Yesterday was my first time breaking 5 during a mile time trial for cross country. My splits were 73, 76, 78, and I came back strong with a 72. Good luck.
im a freshman and at a manhattan 1.25 mile course, i ran a 6:21, which is a 5:04 pace. i havent tried to break 5 in a mile, but my coach said out mile splits are 10 seconds faster than that pace. ill write another comment after i ran a mile.
I ran this 3 months after I started running. I have now ran 4minutes 29 for 1500m. I hope to get down to around 4min 10 next year on track. Steve Cram ran 3 minutes 40 when he was 17 so I'm not going to set the world on fire.
i'm running a 4:48 right now but the thing is when i was running that pace it wasn't breaking 5 that was the problem. it was consistently staying under ;)
I ran a 4:56 as a sophmore. It was the only year i ran track. My father was one of the fastest runners in Connecticut in the mid 1960's (highschool level). He used to run around 4:40 which placed him 2nd in the state. Today that wouldn't place him anywhere near that high. But he smoked a pack of cigarettes a day then :)
I agree. Breaking 5 minutes is quite tricky. I have ran a 4 minutes 56 mile, but not in a race. I hope to get a further advantage from entering a mile race. I have been concentrating on longer races which has been more productive
trying to break the 5 flat barrier is one of the most frustrating things i have ever done. i swear, there have been about 3 or 4 races where i SWORE i had it but couldn't quite get it.
There was a senior in my neighboring high school who ran a 4:10 mile last year o_O. Good thing he went to college, it was embarrasing getting lapped by him in races LOL
That's really good. I have a friend who went to my middle school who actually broke the world record for his age group. I think he ran a mile in under 5 minutes.
Well I know a high school guy named Fernandez got 4 flat as a senior. But the faster it is, the harder it is to shave even a second off, so 17 secs is a lot to go.
just ran my fastest ever on monday indoors, 4:32, then today ran an indoor 2:11 half mile

@kozmon0t No sarcasam intended, how should someone have their form when running?
sergizwtf 3 months ago
@sergizwtf It depends on the runner, but it's generally more efficient to land directly under your center of gravity. With shoes it's impossible to truly run naturally, but the "pose" method is probably the closest thing to it.
Heel-striking robs you of forward momentum by redirecting gravity's downward force backward. Momentum is helped by inertia - an object in motion tends to stay in motion.
You can hear the poster's footstrikes, there's a lot of energy in those impacts.

@sergizwtf in other words, the less there is pushing you backwards, the easier it is to keep going forwards.
