Sharon, you have some great Pileated videos here. Could you describe your equipment? Did you find out if the Indiana bird made that location into a nest? I found a male making a hole that developed into a successful nest. My video is found at "2009 Pileated Woodpecker Nest". Your site is very well done, and so enjoyable. Thanks for all your effort.
Woodpeckers will peck on houses if there are insects behind the siding. Yes, they can do quite a lot of damage but they are only looking for their dinner. Insects behind siding usually indicates water is leaking into the wall from the roof or over a window, etc. Correct the problem and the woodpeckers won't continue to make holes in the house.
Humans are encroaching every day on wildlife habitat. You build a house in their habitat, you get what you deserve. Humans are far more destructive to this planet than a woodpecker!!!
I would be filled with vile envy but you pay your dues so it's just half-full. Perhaps it will happen if the pileateds get to the suet before the raccoons. Any hummingbirds yet?
i had never seen one of these guys until a few weeks ago. no wonder my suet bills are so high. these guys are huge but oh so beautiful. i hope he or she returns.
I just filmed some pileated woodpeckers (I counted 4) and this guy was banging on that tree for hours. I literally left the tripod up in my kitchen and hours later (I had stopped the camera after about 5 minutes) he/she was still at it. I thought I had a pretty good shot, facial details and all, but NOTHING like yours. If you don't mind my asking, what part of the country are you in and what time of year did you film it? Do you see them regularly or was this a rare visit? Good job!
what country is that ?

Shot some video of a male pileated last month, look for Pileated Woodpecker, Northeast Ohio.
By the way, Woody was originally modeled after an acorn woodpecker, according to creator Lantz, but the pileated looks closer to Woody today.
