On Saturday, April 16, 2011, I was in my LaScala dressing room at after Act One and a knock came at my door. I went to open the door and there stood Martinucci, live and in person. As a tenor standing there where I knew he had stood so many times before it was very overwhelming. Maestro was very gracious and warm. Grazie Maestro.

@WINSTONS123 considerando il fatto che il mondo lirico non e' nato 50 anni.fa.......ma ci sono secoli alle spalle.....se dico oggi significa che nell`era moderna del canto c'e' la tendenza a gonfiare le voci e a renderle scure...tra i tanti anche martinucci....ascoltati lauri volpi c'e' un abisso......

lauri volpi aveva la voce più scura di quello che molti di voi pensano.

Molte registrazioni falsano la voce di lauri volpi.

Se non si scurisse la voce parleremmo di un tenore. Francamente non capisco questa orrenda moda di cantare come orchi cattivi: cattivo gusto, ottusità, malore esistenziale dell'intera cultura del canto (non certo del solo buon Martinucci), smarrimento. La voce di Martinucci è molto più che bella, ma c'è solo quella e tanta, tanta voglia di essere... tenore, ovunque tenore, comunque tenore, quantunque Tenore... uffa! Calaf è più lontano della ripresa economica.

@Aetion Del Monaco is used to be renowned as dramatico but spinto is not a fool opinion about him... To me a dramatic voice is more similar to, for example, Aleksandrs Antonenko´s kind of voice, Vladimir Galouzine´s voice. I think Del Monaco perhaps had the Jose Carreras Effect with an obsessive predilection to inflate the power of their voices to sound with more power... singing with more than the interests... in other words, pushing up their voices.

@aguacun Mario del Monaco was a Heldentenor. There is no doubt about that. Carreras is a lyric tenor with spinto ability. However, he damaged his voice by undertaking many heavy roles not appropriate for his voice. Very different voices these two.
