I think you're going more for the aspects of Natural selection than Evolution. The animals with the better "tools" survive better than their counterparts who don't have what they have. Survival of the fittest; the animals with the advantage are able to feed themselves, find a mate, and pass on their genes and traits. The disadvantaged ones USUALLY can't compete and die off or migrate. And I do respect other people's views, so don't take my response as hostile.

they don't go to the surface at night. the amount of distance they are from the surface is so great that if by any chance they were to swim up far enough they would explode because of the pressure difference. they maintain their lives down in the deep dark waters, so deep no light reaches. Also, did you just not watch this video? The female uses the little light to attract it's meals so it doesn't exactly hunt but waits for a prey.
