According to Wikipedia, the counterpoint in Scarborough Fair/ Canticle was Art´s idea.
Counterpoint itself - achieving harmony in the process of interweaving two different musical themes... Doesn´t it resemble their careers? Whenever they met on stage again, it happened precisely in the right moment. Instead of speculating what a pity their professional breakup was, people should be quietly grateful for such occasions. Only rare events become unforgettable.
@mirandatook On the side of a hill, in a land called somewhere, a little boy lies asleep in the earth. While down in the valley a cruel war rages, and people forget what a child's life is worth. One the side of a hill, a little cloud weeps, and waters the grave with its silent tears; while a soldier cleans and polishes a gun, that ended a life at the age of seven years. And the war rages on in a land called somewhere, and generals order their men to kill;
@Sujoy37 This is only Paul Simon. This is a track on Paul's first solo album ''The Paul Simon Songbook'' when Simon and Garfunkel temporarily broke up after the unsuccess of their debut ''Wednesday Morning 3 AM''. This album was produced when Paul Simon moved to England and practiced being in the folk world and got a girlfriend named Kathy Chitty. The album and 3 AM both had Sounds of Silence, which after electric guitar drum and bass dubbs added Simon and Garfunkel both finally became a success
I put a video together for this song to promote my facebook page "Demand Peace Now". Check it out on my Youtube page and join my facebook page "Demand Peace Now.
Indeed. This song would be worked into Scarborough Fair in 1966. It is the part heard in the background that makes the song really cool. I love how they are singing two songs at once. it's kind of a hidden protest song.
@storrs19 Yes some of the hidden verses begin with ''The Side of A Hill'' and if you're a S &G fan you would totally know this was taken from ''The Paul Simon Songbook'' version.
These lads were created to sing together. I can almost hear Art`s harmony. They should have recorded this together. Perhaps its just perfect the way it is though. He recorded his solo album in England while Art was in the states. They had basically broken up. Little did they know what Producer Tom Wilson was cooking up in the studios with their sounds of silence record. The rest as they say is history.

As far I as know, this song has never been recorded by S&G. Nevermind. This is really a moving and beautiful song.

Not quite pigmyamazon. Paul and Artie used this song to write Canticle. It is actually quite different, but for one or two lines
