This is something that we Hypnotist call "psuedo hypnosis" and it is what magicians and mentalist will use to make their AUDIENCE believe the assistant is hypnotised, when in reality ,ther aren't. He could have developed a hole through his body? Just like people stick swords through their bodies by slowly making a hole through their body. So when he said look for the soft spot he meant find this spot. Then again it might be fake.
