Was anything more predictable than the Cornhuskers getting trashed by Miami or Florida State on New Years Day? Six straight years, they came up empty in the Sugar or Orange Bowl, three teams against each opponent. They looked sloooooooow, like Michigan or Ohio State gasping for breath in the Rose Bowl against faster Pac Ten teams. Big, relatively slow farm kids (?) running way behind elite athletes. I never thought Osborne would figure out how to recruit to win a New Year's game.

Darrin Smith, Jessie Armstead were the only two good pro players on that team. I'll give the 91' Canes their credit they did win #1 Florida State but they barely beat Boston College.
