Britannic listed since her rudder was out of the water. Since she couldn't turn properly, she listed to starboard. Her propellers were still in the water, pushing her forward as hew bow was laying in the water, causing her to turn adjacently to the currents in the ocean, resulting in her actually listing.

When you think about it, the place where the Britannic sunk really isn't that deep (about 400 feet). The Britannic itself is more than double that depth (882 feet). In essence, if you were to stand Britannic on it's end from where she sunk, you'd still have over 400 feet of the vessel sticking out of the ocean. Food for thought!

what I want to know... is why right when the dive team on a history channel expedition was going to solve the great mystery of brittanic (why Brittanic sank in less than half the time of her sister, even with all the safety improvements), was canceled by the Greek Government. because they are 'not allowed to take pictures inside the wreck'. Funny how there are other dives that do have photos inside the wreck. Conspiracy, or bullshit?

@surfingbird117 yes but when all surviving passengers are off the ship he may get into a lifeboat himself. most of the people died in the lifeboats from the propellor suction. however, very few died on the impact when it hit the mine. therefore, the captain was able to leave the ship.

FYI, the Titanic received the iceberg warnings, but continued on their course through the area where the icebergs lay. Titanic called for help from everybody, and sadly, Californian's wireless was off at the time. Apparently the operator went to sleep after their final exchange, but not necessarily because of the exchange.
