  • I'm a 43 year old fattie.. I'm going to start eating better and try a combo of racewalking and powerwalking since running would be to hard on my old joints. I don't think I can walk on my feet the same way you do because I have low arches. thanks and love the way your hips sway, hubba hubba...:)

    Walking is a particular type of gait, where you never have both feet off the ground. You can actually run at a slower pace than many people walk. When I was in the Air Force, we called it the "Lackland Shuffle." As long as you get both feet off the ground (and it's a symmetrical 1-2-1-2 gait, not skipping) it's running.

  • Thanks for the info on proper race form from the racewalkers out there, but I don't think the intent of this video is to get anyone into competitive racewalking. This is just a video for people who want to take their cardio up a notch w/o getting into jogging/running.

  • Well, that's one way to racewalk but her technique is not quite the same as that of competitive racewalkers.

    Differences: Hands end up right in front of the body, not at ears, arms in close (touch the shirt), forearms up to horizontal in rear. Heel down right in front of body, hip pulls back -- sweeps foot back -- with power, foot stays flat as long as possible and then pops! off the toes from behind. Short gait in front, longer in back. And pull, pull, pull straight back with those hips!
