  • Simply beautiful

  • Brings back memories. My Zuku nanny used to sing me to sleep with this lullaby more than 40 years ago and i still love it.

  • bellissima, bravissima, talentuosa

    complimenti

  • wow dis iz amzing wow

  • adooro minha África :D

  • Bekithemba Heralds

that's the composer of the song. This is a Zulu song begging the world to unite in a lullaby. Thula baba. Means "Quiet child". Baba could mean many things from "Man", "Sir", "Uncle" to "Child".

  • Kimi jij mag mij in slaap zingen

  • Just AMAZING!

  • kippenvel en tranen over mijn wangen. Dit is echt een super mooi nummer en echt fantastisch mooi gezongen.

  • One of the sweet parts of South African tradition that is quickly vanishing. this is so beautifully sad

  • This has always been a nice song to hear when we were growing up. Mothers would sing it to their babies as a lullaby.

  • @blancmerlot Wauw! What a nice surprise! Thank you very much for

putting this down. Now, I can sing this song with the children in my class!

I really appreciate this so much! :-)

(I think btw that Afrikaans is really similar to Dutch.)

Instead of lekker slaap we say: Slaap lekker or Goedenacht

    Groeten! :-)

  • @Anneviolin

I am glad to share it!

Yes, Afrikaans is similiar to Dutch. In 1652, Jan van Riebeeck established a refreshment station at the Cape of Good Hope, which is now known as Cape Town. So the Dutch colonised South Africa and Afrikaans were derived from Dutch. But then the British took over :( Your queen helped us in the Anglo-Boer war though.. :)

haha, but I met a lot of Dutch people last year in SA at the World Cup, you certainly are a very friendly nation! totsiens dan! **

  • Would someone care to put the lyrics in 'Afrikaans' under this vid?

    Thanks in advance!

  • @Anneviolin

Tula tu, tula baba, tula sana

    Tul'umam 'uzofika ekuseni

(approximately. I'm not completely sure about it)

  • @Yltrin Ah, maybe I wasn't clear enough. I meant: "Afrikaans".

She sings something like: "Slaap zoet lief kindje" I couldn't

find the lyrics on the Net. So, therefore, I asked it here on Youtube ;-).

Thanks anyway, I am glad that you took the time to wrote this down! :-)

  • Miriam het dit altyd vir my gesing toe ek jonk was, sy was soos my tweede moeder. :')

  • @blancmerlot You seem to understand "Afrikaans" Could you please give me the lyrics of this song?

    Many thanks in advance!

  • @Anneviolin Sure! (not sure what word she sings at 2:04, so I replaced it with "baba". It is how I learned it when I was a child.

    Slaap soet klein kindjie

    slaap sag

    slaap soet my soet baba

doedoe, my soet baba - doedoe

    doedoe, my engel - doedoe

doedoe, my soet baba - doedoe

    doedoe, my engel - doedoe

It goes on like this.. "Doedoe" is another word Afrikaans people use for "sleep". Usually we just say " lekker slaap" or "goeienag", meaning: "goodnight".

    Groete dan! **

  • MARAVILHOSO, VOZ LINDISSIMA.

  • Thank God, there are still ANGELS around.

Wäre super wenn den jemand hätte, es gibt noch einen von Helmut Lotti, leider mit englischem Text.

Thula thu thula umntwana thula sana, thula umama usufika ekuseni.

  • @hangmatgenieter: I totally agree!!

  • kippenvel!

thank God or Rieu for bringing black singers in the white klassic scene..

    We want more!!

  • South Africa is the center of the world!!!

  • this song tells me and the world that if we are black, white, yellow, red, christian, jewish, muslim, Hindoe or a other religion. We all get baby's, and we all wish the best for our children. We have more in common then differences. Why fighting with each other. Let's give our children a future without racisme and war. Let them sleep in a peacefull world.

  • This is beautiful!

  • is er een lyrics van dit liedje?

    in beide talen (A)

  • Prachtig mooi!!!

    Zeer ontroerend!

Bedankt voor deze te plaatsen op you-tube!
