@Wiligot How about YOU learn what the term "vlahos" means in Greek which is the language of this minor insult? Skin tone most certainly does adapt to the environment over time depending on what is most beneficial for survival. Perhaps you should read a few more books also?
@ .. fortmac100 Arabic is reach it's truth!! but also ugly.. it's sounds very aggressive.. so much "k" or "ch" really when i listen to Arabic 'mi all the time thinking that they angry of someone.... islamic impire?? LOL.. give me some facts!!! even in the Archaeological finds in israel you will see many finds about jews in israel but never about muslims...really.. give me some facts where is written that israel was belong to the muslims?couse even in your Quran it's not written...
@fortmac100 you know what.. think what you think.. as an non arabic speker this language is ugly for me.. sorry... o.k you didn't study about exodus from Egypt?? or about our fathers Moses,Abraham.Jacob?? or Canaan?? it's all in the bible... almost all the bible talk about the terms of jews in israel..... and actually my familiy from my mother side is from israel... i'm a 7 generation in israel from my mother side....
@mirmir936 ; you are typically stupid , as is the person who said arabic is ugly , stupid too. " palestine" is greek , roman , for " philistine" which arabs are not , philistines , Hebrews are the ORIGINAL Peoples of the entire region , a much bigger ISRAEL , than today. Hebrew has NO arabic words , other than some added in modern Hebrew. The origins , of both Hebrew , and Arabic , IS Aramaic , a language older than both.. Hebrew is a beautiful language , and so is Arabic too ,
@fortmac100 you are so stupid!!! Ofra Haza origin is from Yeman!!! she is arab-jew so she speak arabic also.... and israel never belong to the arabs!!!! p.s arabic is ugly.. sounds like something stuck in the larynx...who want steal this ugly language?? in israel i was need to study arabic in the school.. and i was hate it!!
One of the most beautiful voices ever...I didn't understand the lyrics because I don't speak Hebrew or Arabic but her singing transcended all language and cultures (unless one just wants to hate)--although Iggy Pop was a bit much in this sorrowful song. Such a tragic death. May her memory be eternal.
@gattangri Oh very nice. How about before you speak such profanity you at least learn how to spell it, vlahos? How do you know how dark Arabs can be? Do you think ancient Egyptians were caucasian or european? Or what about the first humans who also came from Africa? Eisai malaka!
Vlahos? You are saying that as an insult? And how about YOU learning what Vlah realy is before you say such a profanity?
And FYI, Arabs in Arabian Peninsula are VERY dark, and the others living in the Middle East are lighter due to racial intermixing with other whither ethnic groups. And the first humans "who came from Africa", were white obviously, we would have been black if would have been otherwise, skin color is not that changes in several thousand years!
The song's story is about yemeni girl in the 1930s her name is "DawDaHiy" also it's the name Tribe that the girl belong to which is a Yemeni tribe! :)
A true GEM..... a Talent that could not be replaced... I fell in love with your voice and will always draw strength from your voice ... Miss you Ofra R.I.P.
Israeli pop star Ofra Haza, famous for her haunting voice and blending of Middle Eastern and western music styles, has died aged 42.
The singer died from massive organ failure after being in intensive care in Tel Aviv's Tel Hashomer hospital for 13 days.

@lonishar As an American woman to you and your Saudi friend, I hope one day all women can realize the rightful and equal place we ALL deserve. It may seem to many that we are a bit closer in the western world, but we do still have to deal with sexism and we're still unequal in many ways that men do not, probably cannot, understand.
Much love and luck to my sisters around the world. We shall overcome! (One fine day.)
@brianab31 Hi, nice message. Well places like America and Israel (the west) are much better when it comes to equal rights than the Arab countries. But it is good we see now many Arabs are trying to change this. Of course there is still sexism and some inequality. I actually am a man, and I do understand, look things have changed so much in USA since the civil war but there are still people who are bigots, racist and sexist. luckily I think every generation gets less and less as less (Part 1)
@brianab31 (part 2) people are raised this way. But in terms of sexism, just look how we start all wrong as teenagers. Many boys see girls as sex objects and all they want to do is use the girls, so they have learned how to lie and trick to get in her pants. How often do girls get hurt by boys like this? If this is the foundation of relationships, well what can we expect? Why are girls not taught this reality, and how not to be fooled by boys, and open up their hearts at 12-16 yrs?
God, she was great, a goddess! And there will never be another like her. Does anyone know the name of the flamenco style guitarist with the long dark hair and bare chest in the video? He is really a good guitar player.
Few Years ago when touring in the middle east I've purchased Miss Haza's disk. Historically, there has been an exchange of populations between Arab lands and Africa, in both directions. Especially in Yemen, as crossing Bab-el-Mandeb wasn't so hard. As for why ALL the actors are black in the story sequence, I don't know! :p
@Godpickin - Hi, I know your post was a few months ago...but one reason that Africans may have been shown in this video is because many African nations are no longer tribal, but Muslim. For instance in Somalia where Aayan Hirsi Ali (who speaks out about the negatives of the severely practiced Muslim faith) and other women like her lived, would have had to endure something close to what was protrayed in this video. Its not just Arabic countries.
I hate the part when the woman gets beaten by a man and then strangled to death. It still happens nowadays when women gets beaten by men like animals because they think they are more powerful than them.
@Nathailande Dawdahia was not beaten neither killed. The true story took place in Yemen in the 1930s, she was sent with her lover around the country to be disgraced in public for commiting adultry.
I hate the part where the woman gets beaten by a man and then strangled to death. It still happens nowadays when women gets beaten by men like animals because they think they are more powerful than them.
Ofra Haza's paths and mine have been crossing two times; one in Oslo and one in Israel; - and I did not do an effort to meet her; but how could I know that that young woman was to leave us; I thought there would be plenty of time for encounter.
Well, her spirit is strong and present; but it is a difference, anyway.
Ofra Haza,....a VERY BEAUTIFUL girl with such a BEAUTIFUL voice,....luvin' this and all her songs, and this from somebody who didn't know about her until,....TODAY! Thumbs up to gil1111 and thankin' my buddy Ossama for sharin' 'You', 'Yerushalayim' and this song, truly MAGNIFICENT!!! = D

perfect insight - love you just for this, buddy. core of a lot of philosophy condensed in a few words. Apart from that she was just a great singer, and what a loss!
very good point..wise. I will remember that when I go to court tomorrow for custody of my daughter and her abusive father. Im glad I saw your comment.
This song is about womens rights!!!! They are violated in every part of the world. In Israel, in the arab countries and IN THE REST OF THE WORLD every day.
Ofra Haza is very beautiful woman, with brilliant voice. SHALOM FROM POLAND TO JEWISH BROTHERS. This nation is in my heart, because Jesus Christ is my Lord. My family was helping Jews during Second World War, when German soldiers of Adolf Hitler wanted to KILL Jews, and helping them Polish People. Cousin of mu grand mother hide Jew man in her house. After war they was married :) PRAY FOR ISRAEL!
Um & what does jewish look like? Anybody can look jewish, protestant, catholic, muslim, ect. being that the're all religions. I think you meant to say Middle Eastern, yes?
Wonderful..Mama says that she used to hear her grandmother singing this song...its such an old beautiful song..I must admitt that Yemeni Jewish have a great role in making yemeni music known to the world..its sad that its a matter of conflict between yemeni muslims and jewish..
What argument so poor... "I don't like her, because she was israeli".
Chile, muy country, ever have problems politics with Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, but other thing is the artists form these countrys, many of they are excelents, also beautiful countrys.
Excuse me, but your opinion is really foolish. Sorry.
jorgeandrew, "my" country maybe if you own it. Do you?/ you mean "political controversies" / many of them , in stead of they/ excelent not excelents. Adjectives don´t have plural or singular as in spanish. // Young man, i´m not trying to make you feel uncomfortable, you´re making a big effort by expressing ideas in a foreign language! Good for you, just check out some corrections.-
i am no native english speaker and i usually use to make typos.
i`m the last critisizing other people.
but you make quite a few of mistakes as well for example: it`s not *affraid* it`s *afraid* *in stead* = *instead* *Improve* =improve *languaje*=*language*

Chile, my country, always have politics problems with Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, but other thing are the artists from these countrys, many of they are excelents, also beautiful countries.

Allah in arabic is GOD! if a arabic jew was speaking arabic and talking about god..he would say allah is etc...... its just as Allah in arabic..god in english , and Hashim in hebrew. stop argueing and listen to the song.
@TheNostalgiaband sorry mate but Rabbena is used by muslims & christians alike in arab countries. I'm sure your coptic orthodox friends, who wouldn't be arab anwyay, know this fact.
Rabb is an arabic word & not a coptic one. It can refer to god or a master, but followed by a noun, like Rabb el bayt, meaning master of the house, i.e: the father of the family.
Loving is a crime not only in ancient times - its happening all over the world today. Sad but true - no change under the sun. Great song and beautiful rendition.
If you think hetero- love stories may encounter denial the (non-)Arab (= Islamic) world, WHAT ABOUT homosexual love stories?! How were those two Iranian teens punished? By taking them to the gallows. So, I can only HOPE that there IS a shred of human decency within the Muslim peoples to CONDEMN such barbary, in the near future.
If you accept homosexuality, adultery, fornication - and all the other things that have always been proscribed in moral, civilised times and places - you are welcome to it, but don't lecture those seeking the upright, moral path. You have your way and we have ours.
I don't know why I'm still astonished at how rapidly the comments on YT descend into childish invective & gross ignorance.

You know Hebrow has a lot of Arabic words and structure. For example, numbers, weekdays and so on.
Palestin existed long time ago and for sure you know Salah ElDinne ElAuobi who freed pleastin from crosside maybe around 1000 years ago.

Apparently some here feel that the (at least) 425 million or so worldwide Black Islamic percentage of the approximately 1.66 billion total Islamic population should not be represented in a clearly Islamic story and song, perhaps because it is a tacit admission that the practice of blaming the woman for her out-of-wedlock pregnancy with execution is still going on today as part of existing--and enforced--Sharia Law in most Islamic countries.

perfect insight - love you just for this, buddy. core of a lot of philosophy condensed in a few words. Apart from that she was just a great singer, and what a loss!

Ofra Haza I saw in concert years ago. She was amazing, so gifted, what a true tragedy that she died.
She is singing in Temani/Yemenite dialect of Hebrew.. can anyone translate this? (I'm only catching some of it, it's been TOO long for me!)

Hmmmm she is not that good -.-
(that's just my opinion)
Maybe I didn't like her because I hate Israel, who knows.
Anyway at least she is Arabian :D

What argument so poor... "I don't like her, because she was israeli".
Chile, muy country, ever have problems politics with Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, but other thing is the artists form these countrys, many of they are excelents, also beautiful countrys.
Excuse me, but your opinion is really foolish. Sorry.
jorgeandrew 3 years ago 7
jorgeandrew, "my" country maybe if you own it.

*excelent* =*excellent*
now let`s concentrate on other things

Rabbina means our lord from Rabb lord
hisilia 1 year ago
@hisilia Hmm, odd. I have a bunch of Arabic friends that are Coptic Orthodox that said that Rabbina is for the Christians.
TheNostalgiaband 1 year ago

You have your way and we have ours.
umaralansari 3 years ago
You don't have a right to persecute others and then claim "you have your way and we have ours."
