I built a Wifi dish from KNEX and aluminum foil, but it looks a lot crappier than yours. It can rotate on one axis, so I don't have to go outside to change the direction of the dish.
I might build a new one, and I'll think about copying your design.
Nice to see a person who appreciates thematic scores but seriously...there is literally no substance in this video...i could have said and show the same thing in 5 secs.
That lego thing is awesome, you should really do an update like how far away can you detect the signal from outside the house and so on.
Props
I built something similar, a huge parabolic piece of cardboard insulated with a million miles of duct and tin foil and i can detect signal from about ~700 feet and go on xbox live and watch movies on netflix in HD granted if its available.
thats awsome, great idea, and i lvoe lego. it would be great tif you can give me the building instructions for that so i can boost my wifi signal for my nintendo ds...thanks
any signal that goes beyond 900 mhz,the spectrum of the signal changes. These are called microwaves. This type of RF energy is different then the average signal coming from 84 to 108 Mhz and khz radio stations.WIFI works much like satellite frequencies.2.4 Ghz is within the "L" band of satellite distribution.parabolic's will spread the microwaves further in a one way direction.Put your router in a parabolic dish and get more range.Inside all wifi routers there is an internal antenna.
Lego Technic antenna, great stuff... You could go for over kill and attach the wifi dongle to the end of a satellite dish!!!! Great use of lego by the way.
Asome! I just used a $5 wok from the trift store and Knex and set it up the same as yours. Works well, but I don't know what material works best for refracting the waves.
RIGHT ON! I love lego. DIY wifi antennas are cool enough as it is (I have built a few of my own). But you score some serious bonus points for using lego. You ROCK!
This has been flagged as spam show
but what happens if you want to build a Lego train ? will have to disassemble your antenna :(

Well done. Both the video and construction. I admire your ingenuity.

Wouldn't it be 1000 times easier and cheaper to just run a cat5 cable to the router in the other room?

@kdr26554 Hehe, Actually. I have been using a Cat7 bought in Japan, 2 years ago. much better;)

You could say a computer without the internet is like a car without an interstate; you can't get very far at all.
