@MrRagajungle Thanks for the comment! Yeah you can probably retrofit it! I like to keep it original but if I would like something else in there it would be an SHO engine haha.
its sad how few of the early 1st gen tauruses and sables are around mostly attributable to the weak AXOD automatic transaxle, aside from the weak trans these cars were works of art ford put so much thought into them
@grandspazmachine I agree the transmission is the weakest link! My blew once and now eventhoug it jerks a bit drives well I just use it with a lot of care. Using D instead of OD when on city non highway cruising helps them to live longer also trying no to do a lot of uphill heavy traffic driving.
My grandparents bought the 1st 1986 Mercury Sable that the Mercury dealer in our area ever sold. Theirs was the LS model station wagon with the digital dash, etc. They drove the car for 15 years...too bad the body rotted away. It also went through transmissions like crazy. Yours is in great shape!
Dude, u absolutelly amateur in video making, once U add 3 text-bubbles to the picture in one time, so all of them unreadable. And half of the video is dark like a tarmac. We dont see anything of the dash, try to light up where U recording with a spotlight.
@gergely007 It was recorded with a celphone don't expect much. I was just visiting the garage where I had the car stored. Maybe someday I'll make a proper one but the bubbles are there cause im aware you can't see a thing at times. Thanks for the feedback anyway.
Nice car great shape! I've saved more than a few that were intended for the junk yard. I love Taurus and Sable cars leaders in styling in the day and better aerodynamics than most sports cars.
Hey i have 3gen carp fish Taurus. But in czech Republic, is very difficult to buy 1gen Taurus. Its almost imposible. Especially the LX model like yours.
I was just wondering. I read somewhere you could get the 1986 Lincoln Mark VII's with a factory CD player, I just thought maybe that extended to Ford's newest model at the time.
Why doesnt your trunk slam open, it just opens and lifts a little. My 1989 Ford Taurus GL trunk lid slams open. Where did you plan on buying parts for your car too. And how much do you know about your car. Just incase I have like a question or something
Man, you just took me back to the day I bought a blue one like this when I was 17. Couple of years later, it saved my life in a Freeway pileup outside of Detroit, I miss that car! One day I'd love to pick up another one, hard to fine 'em in that shape!
Damn good to hear you are allright and that actually the car performed well on the accident. They are kind of hard to get by most ppl have destroyed them already...And LX are specially hard to get since the electronics can be quite a p.i.t.a
@Kpeters It is especially hard to find them here in Canada, as the road salt we use in the winters destroys the rustproofing and most of them have literally disintegrated. They are out there though.
There was so much new in that car for Ford, there were a lot of glitches in the electronics, etc. But that makes yours even more interesting.
see why cant all cars have a digital dash. i want to see bars and fuel economy and miles til empty. thats the only fun you can have if your driving an automatic, since you cant shift your gears
An awesome classic! That one looks to be in great shape; well preserved. My parents had an 86, 89, 96, and I had a 93 SHO and now have a 90 SHO. I love these cars!
Totally compare a Gen 01 dash with a Gen 02 for example you can see the cut on material quality, but I think Ford is trying real hard again and realized they haveto compete.
Yep and if they had kept the quality as it was and even make it better it would still be the best selling car I bet but well...you know the guys at the average car companies.
Beautiful car! I wonder if you can't retro fit a modern Vulcan v6 and ax4n transmission into it when and if the trans goes. Jus a thought .

Could you get these with a factory CD player?
comgeek24 2 years ago
Not really...not very sure if the later Gen 01 models. You can fit a CD player from a later model and it will look stock though.

Onlt thing I've seen is a survey on part of the radio manual on premium systems that asks i f you would like to see a CD player included.
