You know, DEVO did a Honda Scooter commercial back in the 80's - perhaps it's not what it appears to be on the surface and there is indeed something underlying. At least give it a thought.

If you turn on BBC2 chances are you will hear BOC in the back of a show within the hour. Whilst the BBC has good taste the also have a contract which allows them to use anything they like for a set fee , a catch all. Anyway, good music deserves to be heard. Pity there will be no more albums.

Perhaps the viewers complaining were so effected by BOC's music in the ad, they went out and bought a new BMW and are suffering from post purchase sticker shock and buyers remorse? Seriously, shut up and stop complaining. BOC is for everyone to enjoy...

I don't think is degrades the music or makes BoC any less than before, just because their music is on a car commercial that a lot of people will see.. It doesn't even say the music is from them, and their songs are lyric less so they don't say "We're the Boards of Canada".. They are out in the open on this one, but subtle enough to stay mysterious still

I wish the entire world knew the great music of BoC , if it has to come from a BMW ad, so be it! Not only they are getting recognized but are recieving some well diserved money money for it. since they are not really the live gig type of band and u guys dont buy music anyway, let it be, its cool!

I think what people find objectionable to smaller artists licensing thier music for corporate advertising is that it cheapens the music, and therefore, the experiences we find in the music. Brittney Spears didn't get into the business because she wanted to create beautiful art, but we assume that BOC did. It is kind of depressing when music you love so much suddenly and irreversibly becomes associated with a corporate logo.

Allowing BMW to use, (and presumably getting handsomely paid into the bargain,) "Kid for Today" to sell BMWs undermines and lessens BoC as artists. Discuss.
