I tow and have given backup support to many of the top kiters who have tried Peahi .I have Kited and surfed La Perouse. The images you see of riders there may appeal to the untrained eye, but any half decent kiter can go straight in front of a big wave.Show me a video or picture of a kiter doing a proper bottom and top turn at Jaws. You can not ! As for La Perouse, the only guys I have seen ride it properly , with one exception, were on the tour. It was a humbling experience .
Mavericks and Jaws are hardly good kite spots. La Perouse would fit on the last section of this wave. Ask the Maui guys, Jesse and Patri if there's any comparison. This wave is 800 meters long and barrels even when its blowing thirty knots. They were doing 6, 8 and 10 turns on a wave. Not to burst your bubble Acoustic Folk, there were at least ten standup barrels, and three 8-10 foot swells in two weeks, definitely the best kitesurfing I"ve ever seen.
@johnbilderback Must be as good spot, never been. Having pioneered kiting at Mavs, Scott Creek, 3 Mile; they are the best wind/wave breaks you will find in the world because the steady wind will rarely be equaled at any other kite spot. Got my first decent stand-up barrel this summer on a jaw dropping right at LP. The first in Hawaii in 12 years!
